rollermonkey Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Just my .02, but pretty much any LEGO model will look blocky and ugly if you zoom in far enough. Ahem. That said, this is a very, very round ship, constructed from a system renowned for being blocky, so that's an unfair complaint. With LEGO some people feel that they can do no wrong. With Star Wars, some people feel that nothing is ever good enough. LEGO Star Wars is the incredibly uncomfortable spot where those two communities meet. Reviews with scores on them are pretty much meaningless unless the reviewer's tastes are exactly the same as your own. I have never been a Boba Fett or Slave I fan, frankly I never understood all the fawning over a character with about 2 minutes of screen time, a couple lines of dialogue and is easily killed off. All that said, I think the set looks quite impressive, and I look forward to building it as soon as possible to form my own opinion. Quote

rollermonkey Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Him not being dead happened in the EU, and years after he died on screen. From my perspective, he died, and I hadn't heard otherwise until recently. 12 minutes? When? Unless you're counting the entire battle over the sarlaac pit? And when they show the outside of the Star Destroyer while he's onboard? He isn't even all that good a bounty hunter... The imperials caught Han and gave him to Boba inside a block. :P Quote

atlas Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 All we saw was his consumption by the Sarlaac. That's it. If people think that Fett managing to fight his way out of that is unrealistic, bear in mind that Maul is still alive after having his bottom half amputated and falling down a massive pit. And that's first level canon. anyway he could be dead, but it is unlikely from a canon point of view especially out of universe. Quote
rollermonkey Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) I thought canon had been reduced to 6 movies and The Clone Wars? Is Maul in TCW? I've only watched one season. ANYWAYS... The point I was trying to make is that even for a non-Fett fan like me, this set looks pretty dang sweet. Edited December 24, 2014 by rollermonkey Quote
atlas Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) agreed! edit: though I think we can also all agree that this set is going to require a fair amount of touching up as well. I suppose there's only so much you can do with 2000 pieces. Edited December 24, 2014 by atlas Quote

I agree, it does look sweet. I'm actually considering getting this as my first UCS set. I, for one, think it would be fun to touch it up a little Quote
legoman19892 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 anyone else notice the stand pictured on the box and the stand you build have the plaque in different places? Quote

I've said this before, but to repeat for the young un's, here's the thing with Boba Fett. To appreciate Boba Fett you have to go way way way back to 1977. The 9-14 year old sect had been utterly consumed by this phenomenon that the adults had never seen anything like before. Star Wars! It was like pure adrenalin and exstacy shot straight into our brains. And all we had for a long few months were beating each other up with flashlights and moms broomsticks while making wooshing sounds. No toys. No chance of seeing anymore of those wonderful stories on screen. The best we could hope for was the inevitable day when that glorious movie finally hit broadcast TV. Maybe once a year. And then finally the dam broke, and we started to get the toys. And oh what glorious things they were. But wait if you carefully clipped the proof of purchases and collected all of the new action figures you could send them in and get a new secret figure. His name was Boba Fett! He was a Bounty Hunter! AND HE WAS FROM THE NEXT MOVIE!!! Yes Boba Fett was the first notice we got that there would be more. That there would be another movie. And he made our 11 year old heads explode. He was cool looking. Helmet, Wrist blasters. Jet Pack. Missiles. All kinds of neat stuff. We knew next to nothing about him. But oh my the stories we came up with that he featured in. We had almost 3 years to imagine. To George Lucas Boba Fett was a throwaway character. Just part of the line up of Bounty Hunters from Empire. But to the young fans he was the first touchpoint of an expending SW universe. he was the central and only thing we knew about anything and everything past the award ceremony on Yavin. By the time the movies hit nothing could diminish him in our minds. And many of us then grew up to write the EU. To make those comics and books and games. And thus we have the fascination with a character that George Lucas has never understood the love for or really had any idea what to do with him. Quote
joebiwankenobi Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I had the opportunity where I was offered a UCS Falcon as a gift when it was still available, due to the onset of the 'dark ages' I respectfully declined. Fast forward a few years same scenario (with the offer coming from the same person mind you!) except it was a UCS Imperial Shuttle. Like a nerfherder I declined again! Just typing this literally makes me hate myself. After seeing pics of this pup all I have to say is that the Slave won't be escaping my grasp! Boba you're my bounty! Quote

I saved those same proofs of purchase from the same Kenner action figures and got the same special Boba Fett you did. The very first movie I ever saw in the theater was Star Wars. Loved it. It's ingrained in my brain permanently. I still don't love the Boba Fett character like so many else do. I don't have the same tastes as others. So many people love the Falcon or Slave I. My favorite was the TIE Bomber. People rave about Fett and Solo, I liked Kenobi in the first and Yoda in the second, and they both died on me. In 1980, Fett died as far as everyone was concerned. He didn't crawl out of that sarlaac pit until 1991 or 1992. He's popular, I know. I get it. I just don't feel the same. I absolutely want the set because it looks great, and I thin kit will be a lot of fun to build. Quote
Lobot Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Didn't he 'die' in 1983? If I recall correctly he was quite well in 1980, after travelling to Cloud City and collecting a certain Han Solo...... Anyway, I can't wait to order this on the 5th Jan I have that week off so hopefully I should have time to build it straight away. Quote

Rumors are that there will be a separate movie featuring him. This set looks like it'll be a lot of fun to build and a great display piece. I can't wait for January! Quote

usbdevice Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 The Swiss S@H site now lists the Slave as "coming soon" (while last night it was still "available Jan. 1st"). What gives Lego, waiting for corrected stickers maybe? Quote

Robianco Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I've now picked mine up from the Lego store in Liverpool. Didn't intend to get it until Monday but they had three left and one of those boxes was damaged. They now have two left and one of those boxes is damaged! No point in hanging around for double points if the thing you want isn't in stock. Looking forward to starting the build later today... Then trying to mod those side arches for the wing support! kr-lik Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I'm only wondering why there's no official LEGO store in Poland :/ Quote
La Chupacabra Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Indeed but you can buy Slave 1 in PLN Lego Shop website. I want to buy it, but firstly i must find 10212 in descent price on ebay Quote

Schneeds Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 USA Lego shop website is already out of stock for the next 30 days... which is why I drove 140 miles to get one two days ago! How does Lego keep underestimating demand like this? Quote
YavinBase Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I arrived at my Lego store this morning to buy the new Disney Frozen set. I got to the store right when it opened, and there was a significant sized line waiting to get inside. The Frozen set, as well as the new Slave I, was flying off the shelves. The employees did a good job keeping the shelves stocked, especially with these two sets, but the demand was intense. I was given the impression that most of the individuals purchasing Slave I were AFOL. As far as the Slave I goes, the videos and photographs do not do it justice. The set size-wise is very impressive. I was hung up on the cockpit not rotating via gravity in conjunction with the wings, but not anymore. This set has many great qualities that make up for this, as well as other shortfalls that have been previously posted, which were not significant in my eyes. I was 80-85 percent sold on the set prior to today, but this has changed to 100 percent after seeing it in person. I will definitely purchase this set. Quote
