cablefoxley Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 After the successful ambush of the drow, funem returned hack to camp and held a moot with everyone. Each person had his or her say about the news. But by the end of the evening it had been decided to stay on and continue the search for the cave. This would be best done by fortifying the camp and scouting out the land for further drow. Three weeks had now passed and the dwarves had setup a quarry, to supply stone to the camp. Funem has arrived and is speaking to Thalin and Haren about the quarry and how quick it can supply the required stone. Some more pics. C and c as always, and im claiming this for avalonia task 4 labourer. Cheers folks. Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 This is absolutely genius. It really looks like a cliff that's been carved away! Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Awesome! This is how I imagined my dwarven mine! Only niggle (and its slight), is that the dwarves are a little too Lotr/Hobbit-ish. The Vikings you made are still some of my fave figs though! Quote
Yzalirk Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Very nice quarry but I agree with LV that you could have customized the dwarves a bit more but nonetheless, it's pure genius! Quote
cablefoxley Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Cheers for the feedback. Im pretty happy with the moc, esoecially as its the first time iv done a lot of snot rocks. Only niggle (and its slight), is that the dwarves are a little too Lotr/Hobbit-ish. The Vikings you made are still some of my fave figs though! Yh I know there not to well mixed, but iv not got a great amount of castle figs other than lotr & hobbit sets. I managed to get a couple more from a mixed lot off ebay, hence some vikings. Im planning on getting some figs in the next couple of months, as its soon me 30th and iv put down a few sets for the missus to buy. Quote
TheRedViper Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Very nice build, looks like a real quarry. Quote
Garmadon Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Excellent quarry, the stairs are very nice and really add to the feel Great idea with the wooden chute for the stones, and I like that you put some vegetation on top - awesome job Quote
Kai NRG Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Great quarry, like how the rock juts out from the cutting on either end! Nice work on the landscaping as well. Quote
BrickCurve Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I agree with LV and Goliath about the Dwarves, But you did a really good job on the snot rock work. the only other suggestion I have is to add some Dk green into the landscape to break up the colours a bit and add some dk tan and dk brown to the hut. Quote
IenjoyLego89 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Cool looking quarry, I like the carved section :) Quote
cablefoxley Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Thanks for the comments everyone. It took a little while to get the cut away section right. The only other suggestion I have is to add some Dk green into the landscape to break up the colours a bit and add some dk tan and dk brown to the hut. Your right brick curve, next time ill try and add a little variation in colour. Need to get more bricks and free some up. Iv got more and more tied up in a big SHIP, as you can see. Quote

Making distinctive dwarves is tricky as well, given that the Lotr ones are so good. I'm hoping for more castle goodness from Lego soon (we can hope, eh?). Quote
Scaevola Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Really nice job, very good work with the rockwork Quote
LordDan Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Great scene, the cliff looks awesome, and the building fits very well into the scene. Also the Wip pics looks great, I can't wait to see more :) Quote
Hammerhand Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Great job on the quarry, it looks really good! I like the shoot for sliding the stone down, nice idea. Quote
Gunman Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Beautiful moc man... That cliff there is beautiful! I'm a conformist!! Quote
de Gothia Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Really love that rock face! Some great minifigs posings aswell! Quote
Gideon Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Good contrast between the natural rock face and the quarry! I also like the thatched roof a lot The pics seem a bit noisy however, I think you could improve that with more light when you shoot. Quote

I hope so to, but fingers crossed ill get medieval village and the kingdoms chess set soon, then ill be able to build a few more figs. Beautiful moc man... That cliff there is beautiful! I'm a conformist!! Does that mean we'll be seeing some snot rock from you gunman. Good contrast between the natural rock face and the quarry! Hi gideon, I took the pic, outdoors, mid afternoon and out of direct sunlight. I might not even be able to do that soon, as im in the north of england and the weathers getting worse (pretty much gonna rain now for the next 6 months).I think its down to the fact im using an old smartphone camera for pics and a tablet for editing and posting. Whats more Imoortant, a better camera or a proper comp so i can edit better? Quote
mccoyed Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Great build. Great rockwork with good use of color. It's hard to get that right, I think. Quote
Gideon Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Hi gideon, I took the pic, outdoors, mid afternoon and out of direct sunlight. A proper camera would do a lot, even though modern smartphones are getting better cameras there's nothing like using a "real" camera. It does not have to be one with fancy features and a high megapixel count however, it's more important with a good lens. I use an old DSLR from 2008, and a lens from 2004 So if budget is a constraint, I'd say go for a better second-hand camera rather than buying a simple brand new one even though the newer one might have more fancy electronical features. With a proper photo setup you hardly need to do any editing. My recent builds I've only done white balance corrections and cropping with Picasa. I definitely recognize your problem with the light...here in Scandinavia we are not blessed with a lot of daylight half the year But I do most of my photos in the evenings/nighttime anyways (as well as most of my building) when the rest of the family is sleeping. So I can't depend on natural light most of the time anyway. My solution is a decent flash which I direct up onto the white roof in my living room, creating a kind of softbox. Depending on the angle of the flash, the "light source" in the roof moves. I'm looking to buy better flashes some time however since sometimes I would like to be more flexible in which directions I can get the light from... Quote
cablefoxley Posted October 9, 2014 Author Posted October 9, 2014 Cheers gideon ill have a look on the second hand sites for a camera and lens. Im looking at converting the upstairs dumping room, into a lego room sometime early next year. Ill then hope to have an indoor shoot area with proper white lighting. At least then taking photos wont be weather dependent. For the time being though ill just crack on with what iv got and make some mocs. Thanks for the help. Quote
