I went into my local bookstore today, and looked at their selection of Lego books. To my surprise, out of the 10-15 books they had, almost all of the collectible figures they had in them were gone!

What is your take on people stealing figures from books?

While I do think it is wrong, I really can't blame people in one case since Lego was just asking for it. Look at that series 1 to 10 CMF book. They included a toy soldier that is one of those army building types. Problem is its only available in the one book and ZERO sets, bricklink average price is 13 bucks a piece, 19 buck retail for the book(mine was 12.34 at Walmart though), and the future is unknown on the figure.

They should implement a better way to store the figure within the book. It seems quite easy to steal. Although the figure is still in all of my books. I have yet to attempt to remove them in case I tear the book.

But theft is theft and definitely not something that needs to happen. It's a consumer world. If you want it bad enough, save up. If you can't justify it, then don't get it. No reason to steal. There are a lot of things I want in this world, but I live without.

This is definately wrong, whether you are stealing a minifigure or something else.

I think they should be style of DVD cases. Certain DVD's and games require you to take the case to the checkout in order to give you the DVD, as the case has been left empty to avoid theft.

I've seen the same in bookshops here in Ireland. I've also seen boxes on the shelves of the toy shop ripped open and one or two bags and/or figs removed. It hasn't happened to me but I've heard enough stories about minifigs and even cars disappearing from layouts at public events.

It's sad. The world is a very selfish place. No respect for other peoples property, no respect for rules unless they're strictly enforced.

I agree, this is totally not ok!

What was the saddest thing was I saw kids stealing Brickarms at Brickcon today with their parents right behind them and the kids' parents said nothing to stop them, allowing them to grow up believing it to be ok.

I've seen many many DVD's that include the minifigure and pretty much most of them were stolen one way or another... If LEGO really wanted too, they would just include it somewhere in the middle where the person would never be able to get too unless they fully opened the package.... It's just asking to be taken out when people see it and true fans and buyers have no problem seeing an illustration before deciding if they want to buy it for the minifigure!

I do not find it less despicable to steal from a friend than from a book. actually quite the opposite.

Stealing is wrong, doesn't matter what the circumstances are. :sadnew:

This is pretty lame. It happens a lot with cards, pokémon and Magic just to name a few. Some people get the boosters, go to the washrooms and open them for ultra rares... =.=

I would slightly disagree with this. You're correct, jealousy occurs in people. But that dosen't give them an automatic pass to steal minifigures from freinds or anyone.

The criminals deserve 100% of the blame. LEGO and the retailer weren't "asking for it" in any way. That is classic victim blaming.

I think this attitude is equal parts shocking, disturbing and sad.

I then mentioned: it is a bad habit...:-).

I am not saying that it should happened but such a things happened and must be controlled

I especially feel for the poor kid who wants the book for his or her birthday because they want the figure. Grandma or whover buys it, not realizing the figure's been pilfered. Happy birthday. . . almost!

Its not just figs from LEGO books - I almost never buy any large item from big box stores anymore - chances are its been returned and items missing, uncaring employees just restock the item for the next sucker to buy. Overall trend points to an ever lowering sense of morality in society. Just last night, we were discussing this and I told my wife I use LEGO as an escape from the real world.

Sorry but I tend to speak my honest opinion/thoughts oin a subject.

And so you should, I myself do the same. But that doesn't change the fact that I find it disturbing when someone puts the blame of theft on the victim, thereby indirectly suggesting that the thiefs are in their right to do so.

Seems like a person picking up the book would make sure the figure was included. And its should be REALLY obvious in cases where someone pilfers the whole plastic bubble!

I usually get one near the back, because chances are that someone (or multiple people) have picked it up, and dropped it. I agree though, this is bad. Most thieves wouldn't be children, so they are basically taking something they don't need, and deny a child, who it's aimed at, the actual toy.

I want to confess that when I were a little kid, I did open a small set in the department store. But not to steal any of the bricks, but to look at the catalog, which were so wonderful back then with their vignettes. Sorry Macy's.
