Posted June 25, 200717 yr Avast Mateys. I figured it time we stopped all this gobsmacking and put our moneys where our mouths is. Here be the challenge. 1- Pick your favourite Pirate set, making sure you have access to the original box or instructions and your own copy of the set. 2- Pull the set to pieces and build one of the Lego photographed ALTERNATE models using the back of the box or instructions as a guide. 3- Post a photograph of your alternate model along with a photograph or scan of the official lego picture in this thread. Don't forget to mention what the original set was, or even better a small picture of it. The only rule is that you must use only the pieces in the original set. In 3 weeks from today (16th July) I will post a new thread for the purpose of voting the best and most accurate alternate model. June 25, 200717 yr Not usualy a a pirate, but this seems as a good idea, maybe for "all" themes? The inverted comma's because not all sets have alternate models. My 13 cents... Martin

Martin It could be done with all themes, but not here. If you have all themes mixed then its harder to compare and the winner will be based on which theme has the largest fan base no doubt. This here's a pirate forum so we're doing it with the Pirate theme. Besides , the prize will be pirate related. If you wish to use the idea, it's copyrighted as a Landlubber Productions Concept , so all you need to do is send me $100 and you can use the idea in another forum. ;-) Hm... I'll try with my EF. You dont have to use them but the idea is to recreate the official alternate model as accurately as possible, so having no minifigs might hurt your chances. Just borrow them from the "something else" , even if it's just to take the photo. Just remember the rule. What about models from idea books? Nope. They usually come with instructions from what I remember. The rule is that you have to use only the parts that came in that particular set, and the challenging part is that there won't be any instructions available anywhere.

June 26, 200717 yr redbeard's revenge??? 8-| why not? While I bought it, I saw it as a "fixer-upper". I have been annoyed at how hard the big brown piece and the black side pieces are to re-use. To make something with just that set would be frustrating.

Well, I will have to leave it up to you as I have re-built mine into something else that I actually like. Only problem is, do the 4+ pirates have an alternate model shown on the box? Yes 7075 does. Both designs are for shorter (middle section removed) ships that are taller. Neither look any better. But I can't find any pictures and my boxes are archived in a hard to find place. Here's an example I knocked up today just in case some people dont get the concept. Nope, I didn't get the concept. I do now. Sorry for being a dolt.

I think this is a good idea for a competition and had you notified the Pirate Forum Administration prior to announcing it we could have given you more support and some advertising. Ah well. Never mind! If you must. Won't do your credibility any good though. *sweet* Don't forget it's all about votes in the end and we all know some members views on 4+ pirates. Do those 4+ sets have alternate versions on the back? I thought they just had "quick instructions".

Ah well. Never mind! It was kind of a spur of the moment idea. I could always extend the deadline a couple weeks if you wanted to advertise a bit. It's hard to tell if people are waiting to submit entries or if it's too much hassle for most members. I'll be knocking mine up tommorrow (home from work sick for a cuple days).
