Planes, cranes, trailers, tracked vehicles, gbc....

Many of my trailer chassis and dollys have 11x3 panels for the chassis rails, but there are limited connection points so these will be great to replace those.

Two of these, 4 connector pegs and a turntable gives you a fairly complete chassis for a crawler crane or a material handler . They will also be great for long truck chassis and so on. I'm looking forward to getting lots of these.

Where does this frame come from/in? Totally missed it somehow.

Oohh my! Is it a new Creator Expert set? Wheels and tires looks great, I wonder if they are compatible with existing wheel+tire combinations, or are fully new.

I'm not sure since the rim outer diameter seems to be over 8 studs. Only the 8448 tire might fit.

Closer look at the new 12T and 20T gears from 42140:

From the look of it, I would say these new ones would run slightly smoother, with less play... is this so ?

I wonder what the purpose here could be? The only thing I could think of is that either the spur gears have more efficient tooth profiles, or their thinner size means their sides aren't rubbing against beams?

If it's neither of those two then it would be strange to introduce new gears that are the same in every way other than not being able to be used as bevel gears.

My question is whether or not these gears are going to appear in any of the H2 or future sets, and how they're used. It's unlikely that they've been designed solely for 42140.

My guess would be that they will appear in the next supercar inside the gearbox, as they probably make it run smoother. Also, in RC models to make the drivetrain smoother and put less wear on the beams (the teeth of these will not rub against the beams the way the bevel gears do).

I wonder if they will release a clutch version of the 20T. I guess it's not possible for the 12T.

Problem with current bevel/spur gear hybrids is that the supur teeth have to be short in order not to interfer with bevel gears when used as a bevel gear. This means they run less smooth and that the bevel teeth have a tendency to rub agains beams sideways, further reducing their efficiency. The new gears will be stronger, smoother and more efficient. Now the question that comes to mind is, if we will get new purpose-designed bevel gears too?

The colour choice however is really odd. Why oh blue and not only that but two tones of blue? Or is this just the first version and the actual ones are orange like in the 360° pic of the 42140?

Wasn’t there some speculation that the new 12z and 20z are meant to slide on an axle easily, like the red 8z that was released years ago?  If so, making them beveled would be pointless since using a gear in a 90 degree mesh means you can’t also have it slide on its axle freely.

Even if it is being redesigned, the fact that no version has appeared in a recent set might prove otherwise.

These seem to be ideal for use with chains. I could see some good uses for them. The new 12 tooth is a very good replacement for the 8 tooth in this regard as the profile of the 8 tooth is to small for the chain to run smoothly, and the 16 tooth often is to big for the smallest applications. 

 

I'd like to get these new gears just to reduce friction even further in my gearboxes 

On another note, am I the only one who hates the 0.5 stud protrusions on both sides of the L motor?

Those new gears are exciting.
