N-4K0 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 For large sets I sort out the different types of parts, usually keeping pins, connectors and the small stuff in a pile, but for smaller sets I don't mind having everything in a single pile. I like to be organized, at least above a certain size of sets. I do agree with the guy with the "impossible build" avatar ( ) - it irks me when they do pics of loose parts laying around all mixed, panels with pins and connectors between them, some trays with mostly small parts and for some reason a few large parts casually placed among them. It does irritate me to some degree. But maybe that's the point, it makes people talk and gives the set attention, in one way or another. Quote

(Ofc all the above is tongue-in-cheek. I know these are just "lifestyle" photos. I guess the message they're trying to convey is to "do as you please", which fits the "adults welcome" slogan, which too is trying to convince people to just indulge, to carve out your own happy space/time, regardless of what others might think.) Jockos Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I'm one of those few people who like these lifestyle photos. I usually build the same way (having parts laying in one or two pile(s)), but I haven't used any container during builds in my life. This way I can lengthen the building process and save a bit of space. Quote
NV Lego technic Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 The only reason I like them is because it gives us access to new pieces. Quote

Life isn't simple, I know. That bugs me too, especially connectors, for example the pin-pinhole and the axle-pinhole parts are often not recolored to new colors, even though they are used a lot. They just keep replacing them with black/grey. Quote
msk6003 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 (edited) While build studless 8479, I surprised how much rare is green technic parts. Not just 32009 double bent beam(last release on non-educational set is 1998), One of very common parts, 1x6(2003), 1x8(2003) and 1x10(2003) technic brick and #3(1999), #5(1999) and #6(1999) angle connector and 32184 Perpendicular connector 3L with Centre Pin Hole(only include 8446 which released in 1999) is also super rare in green. And even before the 3 of John Deere license set came out, liftarm 7L is also very rare! Edited November 27, 2024 by msk6003 Quote

The 'standard' of using black for pin-pinhole and dbg for axle-pinhole helps with that. Quote

The lime ones are still not the same shade and it’s been how many years? I know the problem isn’t limited to lime either, I have red ones that don’t match. Still doesn’t explain why they’ll randomally do it for a botanical set though, but just thought I’d throw that out there. Quote
J159753 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 A (real) plant/flower/botanical will naturally have colour variation, so if anything it's good for there to minor variation in nominally the same colour for the Lego version; for a mechanical object like a car, that's not the case. ? 8 hours ago, langko said: Maybe it’s partly because they struggle to match the colour of those parts? Sure that is not trivial to differentiate, but I actually liked that that set had both recolored (though not sure if those existed previously). In any case, they could recolor at least one of them (probably the pin variant is needed more often). 8 hours ago, langko said: Maybe it’s partly because they struggle to match the colour of those parts? That could be a reason, though I'd still prefer a slighly different shade than a compleyely different color. 16 minutes ago, J159753 said: A (real) plant/flower/botanical will naturally have colour variation, so if anything it's good for there to minor variation in nominally the same colour for the Lego version; for a mechanical object like a car, that's not the case. ? But they are probably going to use it outside of botanical sets, so I don't think that was the argument.. Quote
