Kelkschiz Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Given the difficulties of making a two legged walker, i'd say it's too ambitious to build one with LEGO. The end result it bound to be disappointing. If it really works though, more than a mere shuffle, i'd be very impressed. Edited October 31, 2014 by Kelkschiz Quote

But you have to start somewhere and yes it looks funny, but its hard to make a wlker with zero IQ and reflexes. Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Heh, this little dancer really made my day I hope you succeed! Quote
VKTechnic Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 That hip shake is really satisfying to watch Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) *note to myself: When recording the finished version make a wiggle wiggle blooper* Anyway all to do is the arms and to cover it up. Should be done somewhere next week. Edited November 1, 2014 by Zblj Quote
OzShan Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Lots of fun so far. Looking forward to seeing more. Quote
rollermonkey Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 That's not what I pictured happening at all... Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 Status update: So I got all the mechanics and electronics connected and it still walks. Each arm can move indepenently and has a tool at the end which also works independently. Even though it has an IQ of a rock it seems to be quite stable unless you do stupid thing like lift the body to max height and sway both arms like crazy... All to do now is some bodywork, but I have to keep it light. Quote
Rockbrick Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 the hips move like sharkira.... we have a drummer a piano and now a technic dancer.... why not seriously though - you have to make prototypes to improve and improve.... and this is getting better and better Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 The suit is more or less complete. The shape turned out really great and even though the weight went up to 1600 grams it can still walk and do OTHER FUNCTIONS which will be revealed in the video. Expect a video and a full descrištion somewhere this week. Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Here's the finished beauty! As you can see the suit has a claw and, a weapon, lights and a control room in the front. The legs can be extended via LAs: In order for the model to walk each leg is attached to the body via 4 rotating points. The 9L links tilt the upper part of the body to transfer weight: Each arm can be raised/lowered individual and also has a special mechanism so the elbows move along the arm. The driver is protected behind the reinforced front grid and can see outside world via big flatscreens: The operater is surrounded by articulated joints so he can control the suit with his body. Notice the lights: The 40 tooth gear on the right arm can hold somewhere around 30 rubber bands. So the finished model has for following functions: 2M motors for raising - lowering the legs 2M motors for rotating the feet 1M motor for walking 1M motor for rotating the waste 1M motor for left arm movement 1M motor for opening/closing the claw 1M motor for right arm movement 1M motor for rubberband shooterđ 2 Lights for...lights 4 PF receivers 1 LiPo battery box 5 LA's for lifting and claw control Width: 37 cm Length: 33 cm Height: Minimum 36 cm, can be raised up to 50 cm Total weight: 1600 grams In total there are 6 plugs (orange) on the poor LiPo battery box: Notes: The lifting mechanism can be a bit weak, and also the rotating axles tend to dig into 5x7 frames causing some marks. For best walking stabitlity the model has to walk when fully lowered. And here's a video: This being my first big exo suit/mecha/robot I am very happy with the outcome. I learned a lot form this model. Yes there are some problems with lifting and stability, but I think that for being a first kind of model its a very good representation of the mechs you see in sci-fi movies and such. In short it can walk, steer, rotate, shoot and grab stuff and that is what makes it so playfull and unique. Edited November 8, 2014 by Zblj Quote
BusterHaus Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 This turned out fantastic. My concern about the leg connectors slipping out turned out to be invalid because I thought the feet would lift off the ground, which is not the case. The amount of functions is incredible for the weight. I really like the colour scheme, too. Are you planning on making improvements to the stability? Quote
D3K Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I love the looks and the video! Would be great if it was more "walking" and less "wiggling" though Still; unique and awesome model! I don't know if I have said so earlier, but your cheetah and wolf models are also absolutely awesome! Quote
dlefik2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Man, this is crazy! Such an awesome video to watch and glad everything worked out in the end. Definitely many thumbs up from me.  Quote
JGW3000 Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 The best for me is the destruction of the armored vehicle, great build, great use of colors and trans parts. How long did it take to train yourself to work the RC units so well? Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) Really cool how u made the minifig move, like it is actually controling thic boogie beast. I am amazed how stabile it is while swinging its arms, especially when lifting the tank. Have you tried to walk it in higher positions? Also great video, you'be become quite a director. Thanks for the praise I am probably gonna create some sort of walker sometime which should be better. I am gonna keep this suit the way it is for now. I love the looks and the video! Would be great if it was more "walking" and less "wiggling" though Still; unique and awesome model! I don't know if I have said so earlier, but your cheetah and wolf models are also absolutely awesome! Thank you! I should build some more furry creatures soon Man, this is crazy! Such an awesome video to watch and glad everything worked out in the end. Definitely many thumbs up from me.  Yeah I am also happy how it all turned out well. I know how silly the unfinished legs looked like wobbling around like they are trying to twerk, but the added weight and functions soon smoothened the movements. The best for me is the destruction of the armored vehicle, great build, great use of colors and trans parts. How long did it take to train yourself to work the RC units so well? I had like 2 days There was A LOT of unused footage in total there was some 30-45 minutes of raw footage with lots of fails, etc... Also the remotes have all their function seperated by colors and different shapes so its less likely to mix them up. Really cool how u made the minifig move, like it is actually controling thic boogie beast. I am amazed how stabile it is while swinging its arms, especially when lifting the tank. Have you tried to walk it in higher positions? Also great video, you'be become quite a director. Yeah I wanted the minifig's legs and arms to be movable externally in order to use it for video. I intentinally used the chima's wolf because that fig has the armor with 2 studs in the back which are perfect for mounting to the whole contraption. Walking in higher positions is too unstable, its only usefull for shooting down maybe? Thats one function, that suit could go without, its also kind of rubs some axles to 5x7 frames, so I dont use it... Still have a long way to go to be a director, but I'm trying my best Thanks for all the love guys, it means a lot to me. Quote
Simarilius Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Very cool model, and great presentation! Very impressed! Quote
Epic Technic Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 That is one impressive model. I feel so sad for the bat-box. Quote
Boxerlego Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Nice work on the large exosuit. The video was awesome! Its very interesting that it pivots on its foot and is also able to rotate. Very dynamic walker design. Quote
