Request for help with Ford KA MOC

The main reason I joined this forum was to ask for some advice with a MOC I have struggled with for months, on and off.

Earlier this year, I picked up my first ever car: a blue Ford KA.

I would like (well, love!) to build a minifig-scale version of my car, but my limited experience with MOCs means I don't know where to begin. I have tried many different approaches in LDD, from laying out the basic chassis and trying to build it up from there, to trying to get the look of a particular area of the car right, and then build around it. But it's been a no-go.

Can you help? Ideally, I would love to have an LDD file of something similar in scale to this model; that's how I put together the modified VW camper I posted earlier today. Something like this would be an ideal starting point:

Any useful files, or just tips and advice? I hope you can help this relative newbie!

Maybe wait until next year for Speed Champions to come out so you could copy the front ends of the sports cars in the series.

It's very hard to create real life minifig scale cars without making them look too blocky.

Hello again! Six weeks or so after I started this thread, I have finally built what I think is a fairly good replica of the Ford KA (a.k.a., my car).

What do you reckon? I am very open to constructive and critical feedback. I'd prefer you to rip it to shreds before I spend a lot of money on loads of blue tiles from Bricklink!

Thats a nice MOC! I think it captures the spirit of the model quite well!

i would consider making the curved forward facing piece under the hood black. when i make a car or truck MOC the first thing i do is decide what the most recognizable feature of the vehicle is, then i focus on making that stand out. when i look at the Ka, the headlights and grill pop out for me. i think you're close on the headlights (although i can't quite figure out what brick that is) but i think a more prominent grill would read better as a Ka.

definitely an improvement from your past attempts.

Concerning your Ford Ka MOC I think you've done a good job, especially regarding the fact that it's quite difficult to recreate small modern cars with a rather unspecific look - that's why hardly anybody tries to do so. My only concern is the wheelbase which seems to be too short - probably the car should be one stud longer. Btw. like Droomangroup I'd be interested in the part you've used for the headlights. If it's a Modified Brick 1 x 2 x 1 1/3 it obviously doesn't exist in trans clear, see http://www.bricklink...&in=S&viewSum=Y

My only concern is the wheelbase which seems to be too short - probably the car should be one stud longer.

Compared strictly to the file pic it looks like it could do with another stud but in real-life these Ka's do look shorter than they are so the length works to create this impression.

I agree about the back grille needing to be bigger and/or more distinctive and would like to know what the headlights are.

Great job though and nice to see a modern real car depicted.
