Hey everyone,

I have finally finished the crawler. It took me awhile and a lot of versions till I liked something. So lets get right into it.

Features:

  • 1 XL motor for drive
  • 2 Servo motors for steering
  • 2 IR Receivers
  • LED lights
  • 2 Speed gearbox with M motor for remote changing
  • 1 Lego Lipo battery

I took some ideas from Madoca1977 and Nico71(which are some great builders)

I hope you guys and gals enjoy!

Cool! Are those 96 or 108 mm tires? I bought 108 mm and they don't look so wide, so I'm guessing the smaller ones.

What are the two gears in the transmission?

The body looks a little short. Like it was put in a compactor and flattened.

I'm sure the performance is good. When can we expect a video?

I've built two similar setups with two servos. The first one had really bad bracing on the steering bevel gears, so they got too loose and malfunctioned, the second one (top line, middle photo) was i think too long - the distance between axles was a bit to big. I think you might encounter the problem of getting stuck with your jeep while overcoming top of the hills.

Will look forward to a video to show it's capabilities if you're making one!

Looks pretty nifty :D

Thanks guys!

I have to take the 4ws out since I am having a problem climbing up a ramp I made. Making the rear wheels unstable and won't grip. I plan on doing a video but not sure when yet.

So I am back with a whole new chassis for my Jeep lol. I got rid of the 2 speed gearbox and went with a 36 tooth gear for torque. The chassis is a lot more stronger and the suspension seems to do better. The final gear ratio is 1:15. I haven't forgotten a video for the performance, just been busy and was going to do it today but camera was died lol.

I suggest you to use the 12:36 gears INSIDE the frames. This way you will ahve more gearing on the axle (less torque twist) and less torque on the U joint inside the ball joint,

Not sure what you mean. Like add another side of gears to the driveline?

Keep the hubs 24:8 (3:1)

Change the center section each axle to 36:12 (3:1)

Change the key gear ratio off of the PF large motor to 20:2 (1.67:1)

This will reduce the load on the u-joint in the ball joint.

15:1 gear reduction on a PF Large seems like overkill. In my experience 5:1 is the middle of the road. Which receiver version are you using?

It looks like there is not enough space for a 12:36 combination because of the servomotor
