Starwars4J Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Is the minfig in middle (the one with the cool new helmet with the "wings") wearing some special (longer?) armor? Hard to tell. Pretty sure that "armor" is a red beard ;-) Quote
zouave Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 The new set looks great. The dwarfs and other minifigs look good. But the troll looks like something from those imaginext stuff. Quote
Hinckley Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 The new beards look promising! The set itself looks pretty crappy... but the figures have me interested.Steve What what what?! Crappy? What the hell are you talking about? Are you expressing your opinion Athos? How dare you have a differing opinion from me? X-D X-D Kids: I'm being a bad example right now. I'm just joking with Athos. You shouldn't talk this way to anyone you aren't already friends with who could take it the wrong way. Back to Athos's opinion: BOOOO! ;-) All right, I'm just messing around but let me try to sway your opinion. Imagine the fun you can have with this set: You can put gold in a bucket and tip the bucket over and it falls down a chute into a mining cart! WOW! 8- Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 my major grip with this set is that it looks more like a "playset" rather than a model. it looks like something hasbro would produce for its action figures. i remember when the adventurers came out, and i thought the same thing about pharaoh Quote

Hinckley Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Great point BM. It does look like an actual Weebles set I had as a kid. I'm not sure how a complete mine model would look (and yes, BrickMiner that is a direct challenge to you, my friend. X-D ) But, in answer to your question, "hell no I wouldn't keep this set together on the shelf, are you crazy?" I will keep it together to review it and play with it and make a hilarious story with Gavin and Bianca. I think it has hit the playability nail on the head. But, after the review it'll come right apart and the figures will join the cast of my Castle story. Great point. Perhaps I should boo myself before booing others... :-( Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 i am interested: those of you who like this set, do you like if because you think the set is constructed well, or do you like it for the new elements ??? i mean, are you going to keep the set built once bought, or is it a straight parts pack ??? Actually this is gonna be one of the few non-SW sets that I keep together. I love the playability of it. Frankly, not many Lego buildings looked all that great on the outside, and the main reason to have them was playability. If you want a model, you need to build your own. If I want a model mine, I'll build a huge rocky cliff, fill the mine with supports, maybe a skeleton, rats, and random rocks. I think this is great for what it does, and gives me a real "Legend of Zelda" feeling. It reminds me of a mine from Twilight Princess ;-) I'm really happy with this for what it is. It's a playset, and Lego hasn't been making those much lately. In fact one of the major gripes with SW lately was the LACK of playsets! This at least is a relatively civilian set (sure there's fighting, but it's still a MINE, and not a castle or warship), and that's what we've wanted for awhile. I'll definitely pick up at least one of these babies. Quote

In fact one of the major gripes with SW lately was the LACK of playsets!hmmm... now i don't keep up on SW talk... but i would assume those fans want more playsets, as opposed to vehicles. is that correct ??? for example, the batman line could have benefited from more "playsets" and less vehicles. from this stand point... yes, a playset is desperately needed for those two themes.in anycase, i do think playsets are what we need for any theme. for example, bandit's secret hideout 6761 was a great playset, but it also came together as a well executed model. again i think there is a balance, and im not seeing it in this set. This at least is a relatively civilian set (sure there's fighting, but it's still a MINE, and not a castle or warship), and that's what we've wanted for awhile. I'll definitely pick up at least one of these babies.yes, i love the concept of the set. i think that is great (perfect ???) !!!-------------------------------------------------- and hinckley... i may have to take you up on a full mine set, that looks like a mine, has playability, and is a finished model, all-in-one. of course it will be in the great theme of WW :-P im pretty confident it can be done will a reasonable (LEGO-like) piece count. - BM Quote
natelite Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 It's supposed to be underground. But as with all lego construction, you can't build a basement out of lego. What you need is to dig a hole in your carpet or floor, and place the entire structure in it. That way, the top will be at the ground level and it will be a real lego mine model! :-P But yeah, you can't have a nice ground level model and have play value from non-moving parts. It's kinda like trying to build a lego model elevator that goes 10 feet underground. Not possible. So while I won't be keeping the mine built, I don Quote
Berry Syedow Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Hmm, hmm, hmm, I think I'll reserve judgement until we have better pictures of this set. To answer Brickminers question: I'm mainly interested in the elements of sets in general. The set itself is secondary (unless it's well designed or has uncommon pieces) and is otherwise disregarded as a parts pack. From what I can make out it looks like this will be a parts pack set with some neat-o minifig elements. I hope TLC releases some smaller sets featuring the dwarfs so I don't have to shell out a huge sum of cash. I like where TLC is headed, though! They just need to work on creating better designed structures. I'd like to see some mid-sized ones such as a tower or outpost of some sort in the future. Quote
Chuck Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 (edited) From what I see, it appears that the dwarves are probably allies of the Current good guys. It also appears that two of the dwarves have a gold and a silver atst helmet. -l2k- Edited June 27, 2007 by lego2000 Quote
snefroe Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 difficult to evaluate the set itself based on this one picture. it seems to me that it's basically been build up by 1 piece pilars and similar parts like that. i'm also not sure how to approach the set. where exactly is the gate, where do they dig for precious stones? still, it doesn't look all that bad. Sure, it misses the grace and sophistication of several city/sw sets but i guess the main thing here is playability. anyway, i think it wouldn't be too hard to build a decent Wild West mine with this... KimT Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Wauw *wub* *wub* *wub* I must have several of those. That troll and the axe heads look awesome. Thank You LEGO for making such a great new castle theme. Take that KK KimT Quote
Berry Syedow Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Those aren't AT-ST helms, they're too short and the fronts curve forward a tiny bit Yeah, they're either scorpion helmets or the modified "winged-helmets". Quote
Hinckley Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 and hinckley... i may have to take you up on a full mine set, that looks like a mine, has playability, and is a finished model, all-in-one. of course it will be in the great theme of WW :-P im pretty confident it can be done will a reasonable (LEGO-like) piece count.- BM I'm very very much looking forward to that! *wub* That is one of your greatest skills is building great MOCs that could realistically be a LEGO set. I sometimes intend to do that, but then go way overboard... Brick Miner Mine MOC on! Quote
Darkness Falls Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Impressive. The structure itself is a nice piece of work, and I'm just iffy on who is holding those flame swords. Orcs, dammit... ORCS. But, it's a pretty well-built structure, and a fair amount of minifigs. I'll snag one. Quote
alex54 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I think this is great for what it does, and gives me a real "Legend of Zelda" feeling. It reminds me of a mine from Twilight Princess ;-) What a game! This is the first time that I play a game with so many interest! With the wiimote in my hand, I'm Link! :-D Anyway, back on topic! This set is more the entrance of the mine that the mine itself. Just look at the door, which permit you to explore the earth of the heart and bring back all those crystals. This reminds me of the entrance of the mine that my grand aunt has in her garden, which product steel for the Eiffel tower and the Statue of liberty few years ago... But the mine is closed now, and there are a lot of vegetation in front of it. That makes me thinking of an elfic faction leaving in the forest, that would be very very nice! Just imagine, a piece of forest in LEGO! *wub* Quote
Quarryman Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 From the little I've seen so far I like this set, so I'll get it for sure. :-) (unless later pictures makes me change my mind that is) No, the Dark Wizard is just my puppet. Peraphs those goblins are your relatives, Master *yoda* ? They sure resemble you.... Shakar You mean they are small, green and talking gibberish? Guess those dwarves don't have anything to fear then.. :-P That makes me thinking of an elfic faction leaving in the forest, that would be very very nice! Just imagine, a piece of forest in LEGO! *wub* Agreed! An elf-like fashion would be great! *wub* Elves on! Quote
Piranha Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 :-X Such a horrible theme IMO However those minifigs look alright and theose mine carts with golden crystals are *wub* The best color of those crystals so far has been the chrome green one Mine Carts 8- Quote
Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I'm going to take this set into my room and make sweet monkey love to it. ... or was that too graphic? Anyway, Skeleton Ship notwithstanding, this is easily my favorite 2007 Castle set. Hail Lego for a System line that doesnt suck! Quote
Hinckley Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 ... or was that too graphic? 8-| Well, with all those doorways and arches... :-X Quote
Vader Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Ouch and i thought my comments a few pages back were alittle strong, Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn i think i speak for most of us when i say thats one hell of a disturbing pic youve placed in our minds :-D X-D Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 It's supposed to be underground.is it ??? really. i didn't get that at all from the pic at all. interesting natelite...if it is supposed to be underground, then retract my statement about it not looking "closed". i see how that would be impossible. however, if it is supposed to be underground, also retract my statement about this being a well conceptualized set. because of the limitations of underground building that we are talking about, conceiving an underground set is just plain silly for a LEGO set. a mining playset doesn't have to be underground, again i call back to 6761 ;-) i really really get the feeling of an action figure type playset if it is supposed to be underground. i still think a LEGO set should be a free-standing model as well as a playset. - BM Quote
