JINZONINGEN73 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 :-X :-X :-X The more i see of this line the more i hate it, sorry to any exo fans out their but i think tlc just are'nt trying with these sets anymore. That thing looks disgusting... ...it truly reminds me of something that megabloks would produce....then again im not sure even they would go so far. Indeed. I never really liked ExoForce's FAILED ATTEMPTS at looking like anything even REMOTELY having to do with the japanese, or designed by the japanese... but this stuff is just off-the-wall worse than what's come before. Then again, look at that first set. Yeah, it's design is the quality of dog poo immortalized in plastic, but the parts are decent for building other junk yourself. Possibly. But I don't like my mechs being swiss cheese and full of holes. Yeah, why can't non-japanese mech designers realize gaps = taking out $1,000,000,000 mechs by simply sniping a head shot on the exposed pilot? Kids aren't stupid. I'm sure the line would (would've?) been more successful if the pilots had been truly protected by their mechs inside closed canopies. It's fun for kids to "hide" one toy inside another. And it's just... logical. LEGO... get yourself some JAPANESE mecha designers if you want to not make embarrassing mistakes in the culture everyone else in the world currently lives in... but your company. Quote
Hinckley Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Yeah, it's design is the quality of dog poo immortalized in plastic, >:-( That's insulting to dog poo. :-P Quote

Hey now, if you mean Gate Assault, I couldn't disagree with you more. Everything in that set sits well with me, including the designs. True, it's just my opinion, but if you think that lego should make kits like this: big mech Er, not gonna happen. Lego is a kid's toy, and ultra complex builds like that wouldb't sit well with the major market: KIDS. I think the reason why you hate these so much is because you've advanced far beyond the regular lineup lego has to offer. Your building techniques are very complex, and you are a perfectionist (not an insult, I am too! ;-) ). When is the last time you've actually built a lego kit from the instructions anyway? :-P What I'm trying to say is that in order to apperciate Exo-force, you have to look at it from the eyes of a kid (a normal, creative kid, not the mindless violence obsessed pre-adolescents of today.). It makes the line look a whole lot better. ;-) And even without that, most people can admit that sets like the Striking Venom, Golden Guardian, Bridge Walker, and others are at least OKAY in design. :-) Edited July 10, 2007 by Grevious Quote

JoeMI6 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I can see what everyone is saying here. The thing is, while there are many design flaws in the basic EF sets, the bulk of them (especially the original sets) look great and are very striking. They can also be a lot of fun to play with, as they have many posable parts and you can pit the good guys against the bad in whichever way you want. I'll admit, I would like to have much better designs and sets made, but I think for kids, it's just about what is fun, and if a set falls apart on them, they're just gonna pretend it's part of the story, and put it back together again. As for this new set, I just hope the phrase 'Things can only get better.' applies. Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 (edited) I was quiet a bit disappointed with the cockpit design of my Stealth Hunter....But the price was fairly cheap and MODing it was a lot of fun. Most LEGO sets aren Edited July 11, 2007 by JINZONINGEN 73 Quote
DJ Force Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Please, folks, take a good look at ALL space sets beginning in the late 70ties. MOST of them have open cockpits, and those NEVER made me think "uh, what a piece of crap, the pilots aren Quote
natelite Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 As for this new set, I just hope the phrase 'Things can only get better.' applies. That's so backhanded in terms of positive view. It's saying it's so bad that it can't possibly get any worse. Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 That's so backhanded in terms of positive view. It's saying it's so bad that it can't possibly get any worse. Well, it's hitting rock bottom in: -structural design -aesthetic design -color coordination -doesn't jive with sets in line before it The only place that comes to mind where it can get worse is if it was one big Duplo part. :-| Quote
Jipay Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Please, don't insult Duplo : they're way better than this...thing Quote
Hinckley Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Please, don't insult Duplo : they're way better than this...thing Seriously, first dog poo now duplo. What's next? Dingos? What do you have against Dog Poo, Duplo and Dingos Jinzoningen? 8-| Sorry. I couldn't help myself. That sentence with all those words was just too tempting...Go ahead, say it out loud. It's fun. You know you want to! :-P Quote
conductorjoe Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I don't like it at all-LEGO, what are you thinking? I've always kind of disliked "mechanical" looking sets like this one-too many Technic pieces. It looks like a cross between Bionicle, Throwbots, and Roboforce-doesn't even look like Exo-Force, or like Jinzoningen said, Anime-ish at all. Quote
Tobias Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Just to wade in on the debate, I must admit when I first saw it I didn't like it, but it has grown on me. But then I don't see the Exo-Force set themselves as the be all and end all of mech design, I see them as something to build on and modify to get what I want. Whether a major redseign or little mods and tweaks. For the themes which aren't licenses the following applies, (which is the idea behind Lego in the first place), if you buy it just to build the picture on the box and leave it at that you've missed the point. The possibilities are endless. And I can visualise some good modding. Quote
