IenjoyLego89 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Beautiful build! All the details are amazing, I really love the tiling on the floor! :) Quote
Rishab N Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Awesome build. i've read most of the Extended Universe except the Thrawn trilogy so looks like I'm going to have to read that Quote
GuyDudeMan27 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 This is amazing! There's so much detail! Every last part is fantastical detailed and thought out. I love the little vehicle, and for that matter, the srormtroopers!!!! Overall, just a fantastic build. Good luck! Quote
Wout Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 This looks very good. I read the Thrawn trilogy more than eight years ago, so I don't know exactly what this was, but I can spot Mara Jade. I like the drainpipe? behind Han Solo, the plantcontainers and the tiled street very much. Quote
The Legonater Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 It's been a while since I've read the books, but I quickly recognized this scene. You've done a beautiful job recreating it! I can't wait to see what you make next. Quote
AudiBobaR5-D2 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Oustanding MOC Markus. Never really have read the books of the events after ROTJ, but after seeing this particular MOC of yours, it has inspired me to read the book series and to find out more about this time era, and the characters in yet still the dark times after the events of ROTJ. Keep up with the good work. Quote
Slurpifier Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Love it! Amazing detail, and the floorwork is nicely executed! I have never read any of the novella's, but I have a fair idea on how the story pans out! How did you manage to acquire so many of the new OT Stormies? Bricklink? Quote
Manx Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Wow, another amazing work, Markus. I always think I've seen all but then you strike with something like this. Can't wait to see more builds for this contest. Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Everything was looking so good, then I noticed you didn't give Mara any sleeves. How can she hide a blaster up her sleeve if she doesn't have sleeves? It's her one defining gimmick in the entire trilogy! Quote
Kristof Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Hello Markus, This creation of yours is fairly and honestly the BEST Star Wars diorama I have ever seen. Starting with the amazing tile-work on the ground, passing through wonderful details on buildings to great action in minifig layout. I'm literarly mind-blown by this. So much great job! Congratz on making this reparkable piece of lego art. Krištof Edited October 19, 2014 by krisandkris12 Quote
markus1984 Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Wow, thanks very much @all! @Slurpifier Yes, i have buy it on BL - have must some of the new one Here a photo from the floor technique - how i say on flickr its not new. Behind the scene AND i must say to all - READ The Thrawn Trilogy! I`m not a big fan from all the books, PT, TCW.... but when you are an OT Fan you must read it! Thanks markus Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 AND i must say to all - READ The Thrawn Trilogy! Oh yes, so true. Such good books. Recognised this immediately, and almost exactly how I imagined it as well! The arch looks great, but my favourite is the Chariot Assault Vehicle! Quote
MKJoshA Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I need a bucket for my drool because it's getting all over my work desk.. Seriously, someone bring me a bucket. I am a HUGE fan of the EU and the Thrawn trilogy especially. You have done an amazing, incredible, awesome job with this scene! Words cannot describe how much I love this build. Quote
stope Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Love the details, especially those buildings... Quote
Chills Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 The Thrawn Trilogy is by far the best that EU has to offer. And your MOC is just brilliant! Nice work, Markus. Thanks for showing the tile technique, I was curious how you did that. Any plans for other scenes from the books, like maybe something from Honoghr? Quote
BEAVeR Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 ... That's me being speechless - something that doesn't happen very often . But seriously, the way you keep reinventing yourself is just astounding. You just keep pushing the limits of what defines an awesome SW diorama (or a LEGO diorama in general) where no one can follow you, but every one can learn from you. It's great that you share all of this with us mortals. Every single bit of this creation is stunning. I'm not going to sum them all up, but I want to give a special mention to the columns (I adore columns, and I'm very curious to see how you did those...),the angled walls (that really give so much more realism to the MOC) and the marvelous roof for being so different from the rest of the scene. The vehicle is awesome, and someone else might have made it his proudest achievement, but for you it is just a set piece: that's how high your standards are. And it's great how you keep looking to increase your arsenal of building techniques, with those arches, the brick bending for the wonderful curve and of course the ground covering and the way it is destroyed at certain places. You've been praised for your building skills time after time, but this is the first time I see your amazing design skills. We already saw some for the Steam Wars, but as I then said, your concepts could use some more originality now and then. But this time, I'm in total awe. You've just designed an entire city square by yourself! The source material is very scarce, and yet you succeed in pulling of such a wonderful location. It's dazzling to thing you had to design everything you've build here yourself. From the big layout, to the chunks like the pagoda, to all little details like the doors and the tubes. The result is amazing. Not only visual. Because what's really special, is that it feels completely new. And that's not evident, o no. All of that tan could have easily given the impression that this is just another Tatooine scene, so the color choice was quite dangerous. But you countered it with all of those nice designs (a bit Naboo-like). It was very clever to do that pavement to give it a distinct look, and the same goes for the beautiful pagoda. More subtly, there is that arch above the road, the neatly curved section and the nice angles in the buildings to set it apart from all that we've seen. And I comprehend that there was very little source material for that craft as well, so again you did a great job to make it look beautiful, in universe, and new. The only thing that I feel is missing is some more logic to the scene, more in particular to the layout of the buildings. That pagoda doesn't have any apparent function. That could be improved by adding a small statue underneath it, or a fountain, and by setting it more apart from the other buildings, as it feels a bit cramped right now. It would also help if there were any standalone buildings with prominent features to them to give them the feel of being important to the city, giving a certain gravity to the square and not just making it a place people live, but a place that has history and culture. But I guess there was already enough work for your amazing imagination. A second small detail that could be a bit better, is the posing of the minifigures. Right now, I don't feel a lot of action going through them. The Imperials just seem to walk casually to the battle, and there aren't a lot of Rebels either that are actively engaged in the fight. I would suggest some studs here and there to permit you to give your minifigs more dynamic poses. And try to give a story to every one of them. There could be a cluster around an officer, for example, discussing the tactics. There could be some behind the lines to deliver weapons etc. There could be some guarding the prisoners but getting distracted by the fight etc. I suggest you look at LucasLaughing's builds to see some awesome ideas for the posing of minifigs. Then your builds will have some more intensity and story to them, and will really resemble scenes from the perfect movie that never got made... until you came along. So it's is once again a perfect build from you! I really find it amazing how you never seem to be happy with yourself and keep pushing the limits, instead of doing the same old thing and take in all the comments. That's what makes you a real master, combined with your already great building skills of course. Yes, every time you make me more and more drool over your builds, and be excited for the next one. Thank you for that, and here's an attempt to do something back: a 'peaceful' confrontation between yours and Disco's build: Quote
markus1984 Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Thanks so much for all your posts - i`m a littel bit speechless about this. @Chills Yes, after this MOC i MUST build more from the Thrawn trilogie @BEAVeR Your really crazy . I think the best job for your would be an Scripture . Again i can only say THANKS for your honest, long, great and nice feebdack. Everytime its so great to reed you "long english" texts . Have you read the book? Because then you see (read) how is the scene in original. The part what i have build is a ambush from Lando and Han to rescue Luke. They are not more rebels better say they wasn`t rebels. The transporter was landig to help the Troopers on the marketplace and the pagoda (hope you mean the archway is is a kind of monument which is standing at the end of the marketplace. But its very difficult to build an MOC from a book because, just because everyone is different, it introduces. Hope you know what i mean - it`s late and in the night my english is even worse. So i say thanks again for blooging the entry MOC`s from Disco and me. markus Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Indeed... these aren't exactly "Rebels" (and only the Imperials would call Republic forces 'Rebels' at this point; as far as non-Imps go, the Alliance has already morphed into the New Republic). It's the forces of a certain smuggler kingpin, making a call to aid Han & Lando in rescuing Luke as well as getting his own 2nd, Mara Jade (still not happy she's sleeveless!), back from Thrawn, who's not exactly the best guy to deal with. And it is epic! It's a shame Luke's gonna destroy that beautiful arch The LAVr Chariot looks about as perfect as can be, too... makes me wanna try building (or seeing others build!) more vehicles from the old West End Games RPG books and all the Art of SW concepts. I know REBELS is gonna milk the Imperial Troop Transport for all its worth in the first couple seasons, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Chariot appear later on, along with Skipray Blastboats (and, since the old X-wing/TIE fighter games could use some love, the Assault Gunboats!), then we might eventually get some official Lego sets of 'em all! Not sure we ever need an official Mole Miner, tho ...but it might make a nice parts-pack (all those curves it'd have!) Quote
Darth Malgus Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Awesome, am a fan of the comic/novel your interpretation is awesome. Quote
GrowlingWarrior Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Amazing! Love the floor, want to try my hand at something like it. Quote
markus1984 Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Thanks!!! @Venkefedo Thanks for complete my description . It was to hard for me to write the complete scene story in english . markus PS. Next round - category "forbidden Love" Quote
Venkefedo Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Forbidden love... any chance of avoiding the blatantly obvious PT example? Maybe Obi-Wan & Satine from TCW (tho, perhaps, it could be set well before TCW, back when Obi-Wan & Satine first met & fell in love during the conflicts before the pacifists took power... I don't know terribly much about those events, but it'd be easier to cobble together a suitable Satine figure and use a Padawan Obi-Wan... Qui-Gon could even put it an appearance!) Quote
