I have been spread pretty thin and have been trying to work on this MOC of a wine and spirits store, with a two level apartment/flat above it. I want to take more photos of it and the interior, but only had time to take a couple of the facade. The ground level is the store, and above, reached by exterior stairs is a flat with living on the first floor and a bedroom and roof terrace on the 2nd.

I would be interested in what everyone thinks of how it looks. I finally got the roof on today, but it still needs the sign over the entrance and some small details added. Already, the firefighters from next door are looking inside (they are having a bbq on the roof of the Fire Brigade building next door.) :-) Thanks for any constructive crit. :-) I will post more photos of the interior and rear soon.

Great build. I like the architectural details. My only criticism (since you asked) is that the flags along the roofline seem unnecessary and that the building might look better without them.

I quite like the building--it looks nice where you have it in your street of modulars! The sign will really help distinguish it as a liquor store, as right now it looks like it could be just about anything. I do like the bottles in the window though. Great work!

Nice modular 'talos', though something on the front of the building to give the impression of a bottle shop might help.

Good looking facade and I particularly like the curved glass wall section with the indented doorway on the ground floor.

I'm with tkatt regarding the flags at the top - I say lose them....

Great modular. I like the second floor window section with the arches. It looks like a nice interior too. I agree about the flags aswell and would consider switching the white 'rail plates' on the top section for grey ones to ad a bit more color.

Thanks for the ideas on improvements. I agree, the flags were a last minute addition mistake. They are now gone. I just left the single one in the center. I think it looks better. Here are photos of the interior and the other angles of the exterior. Pardon the couple bits that are askew, they got bumped around a little moving it to take photos. I added the sign too.

I originally wanted it to be 3 full levels, but sort of ran out of bricks, so the top level has an outdoor terrace, soon to add some chairs and flowers. The flower box on the rear is also to be modified, when some additional parts get here from BL.

And a clever idea to make a balcony to reduce the amount of bricks. It works out very well.

I wasn't expecting the rear of the building to be stepped like that, but it looks really good and I'm digging the interior!

I like it, I just wonder if the awning blends too much with the white walls, do you have those curved pieces in another colour perhaps, something to make it "pop" more ...

Gorgeous! I love the shop front windows and the old-fashioned radio on the second floor (first floor if you are European ).

Very nicely done. One problem I have white facades is what to pair it with. This IMO is too much white. I like the overall detail and shaping of everything, but I wonder what other colors may accent it well.

I've also considered doing this very thing, which is funny. There is a shop in town that has a curved front window exactly like that and I have been wanting to make it into a Modular, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've also considered doing a white building. I was thinking maybe some olive green or dark tan with it, but ultimately white plays well with others, so you have a lot of options.

The stairstepped back facade is interesting. It works in this setting. I think what throws it off vs other modulars is the usage of the full baseplate on the back instead of leaving a little strip. I realize it is for the stairs and that is a neat idea, but it does throw off my eyes a bit I think. Do you have plans for an alleyway or anything to have other access to the rear steps?

^Thanks for the crit, I went with mostly white to get the look of a cast iron facade. I have always liked the amazing amount of detail on a building like that (do a photo search on 'white cast iron facade buildings'). Also the amount of Lego I had on hand was more white than other colors for the parts needed.

I do have some dark red awning pieces, I might try swapping the white with that..a dark red/yellow awning? hehe..maybe it would work.

The way I have my city arranged, its in a U-shaped block, so has a middle open area where all the modulars backyards connect, so having the stairs there makes sense in my situation.

If the new modular does have an alley, it would fit quite well with my layout.

Very nice! A great addition to any town layout! Nice use of arches (I like to use arches myself), and the ¼ cylinder window is a nice touch. Great interior. Also, nice transom window above the front door.

This is great! I love the facade, especially the middle level. I also like how the levels at the back are stepped, which I think adds a lot of character to the building. Well done!
