badbob001 Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) LEGO has only released three corner modulars and a fourth is needed for a complete city block. This is where the Haunted House comes in since it CAN be easily turned into the fourth corner. The set itself is mainly kept the same but a new base is created to represent the corner sidewalk. It is designed so that one can simply lift the house off the base plate and play with it as normal (it still opens). I have it built (for Halloween!), but not quite ready to photograph so here's a rendering: The walls were inspired by this and the sidewalk by this. Changes to original set: Removed bottom hinge plate from chimney since it interfered with the wall. Changed the bottom floor plates to follow the outline of the house. Shifted the side-stairs. The major challenge was getting the main gate to line up with the front door. I like how the original way the gates are positioned, but I had to compromise. And when LEGO comes out with a real fourth corner modular, it would be easy to convert the sidewalk to a non-corner layout (like this). Update: actual photos : See them full size on Flickr. Andy D Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 This is very nice. Clever the way you made it a corner building. Looking forward to actual photos. Andy D Quote
Kayaderosseras Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Nice modification -- it should fit right in with the other modulars, even with the yards that are an important part of the look and feel of HH. I also modded 2xHH to be a de-haunted corner modular, but it had no yard -- just flat walls on the sides. The tower was moved to the corner (so there could be a plane of symmetry). Quote
cullmancreations Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Very cool and creative way to create the new corner piece I think it will add a new look to have that abandoned mansion on the city street. Quote
badbob001 Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Add photos to original post. It looks okay, but I think the residents of the house will be very pissed that their side windows are now facing brick walls. If I had the PR built, that may be a better fit next to the HH. When LEGO comes out with a corner modular, I'll rebuild it as a non-corner and give the sides a little more space. Quote

antp Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Indeed, it would then be good with a more modern modular at the side, like if it was build after the house was abandoned. I really like this idea of a simple base for the house, well done. You could spare many tiles in the part covered by the house though - but I guess you got a lot of these from a pick-a-brick wall? badbob001 Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 but how does it open on that baseplate? It has to be lifted off the base before it can be opened. The only way to have the baseplates open with the house is to have the hinges at the very edge but then the protrusion of the hinge would make it not flush with the adjacent modular. I've seen solutions where the house back slides open on a stationary base, but I didn't like half the house to hang on its hinges. Maybe if I have the rear base slide out a bit on rails before opening, but I'm not ready to design that puzzle box just yet. Quote
Johnny6666 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) This is terrific! I've been looking to bring the HH closer to modular specs and this is a tremendous help! The extended gate/fence design with the masonry bricks looks terrific and works exceptionally well even within the confined space of a 32x32 plate (with sidewalk). Thanks so much for the detailed outline and LDD baseplate view - this is awesome! :) Edited December 9, 2014 by Johnny6666 Quote
SeanJFry Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I like it in with the modulars. Nice job. Now I wish I had bought one :( I think the residents of the house will be very pissed that their side windows are now facing brick walls. Welcome to inner city living :) Quote
KLS Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 @badbob001 H firstly awesome mod! I am inspired by your mod that i went out to get a HH at inflated price lol. By any chance you have a parts list? TIA! Quote
carebear Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I Like it very mutch Thanx for the great Idea Greetings Quote

I’m about to build the house but I don’t have as much time as I’d like so I intend to go modular off the bat, but I’d like to maintain the « openness » of the original build. This option is quite complicated but maybe is the best? Edited January 20, 2019 by minimat Quote
