JimBee Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Hybros read the journal, not really understanding many of the words. 'Program'? Clearly the material was above his head. He shrugged. "Hm, well, finish of whichever golems are here and free the people? I am sure we will find our answers in the tower." He consumed a Grand Tonic and a Mead. Quote
Sandy Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Having slain every single threat within the Tower of Towr, it was simple to search out the staircase leading upwards. As they stood at the foot of the stairs, the party knew that whatever obstacles remained ahead, they would be the final ones. Were they prepared to ascend to the Alchemists' Lab at the top of the Tower, or would they take a moment to prepare? Ellaria reads the note out loud, then sighs. "It is quite a tragedy this town has faced... I wonder if anyone is even alive anymore. Apparently our earlier guide's name was Mallora. I wonder what happened to her...?" Ellaria gulps down a Grand Tonic, a Mead, a Soma and and Ambrosia. She then looked at her party mates. "Are everyone prepared? Hybros, can I ask you to use that Fortune Flush on all of us before we advance? I fear we might need luck on our side with whatever we find ahead..." Quote
swils Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Thormanil offers Arx a Mead, but the dragon recoils at the smell of it. Chuckling, Thormanil drinks the Mead instead. "Oh, right, that gal. She did just kind of disappear, didn't she?" Quote

Brickdoctor Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 I consume a Mead and a Mulled Wine. "I'm ready." Quote
Flipz Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) As the party prepared, they heard voices echoing down the stairs. "What was that?" "The Heroes, maybe? I can hardly dare to hope they've made it through in one piece." "It sounds like them..." "Well, what are we waiting for, un-bar the door!" "Kennedy, wait--" "No! I can't take your paranoia anymore, Sloane!" "For once, Persephone, I agree with you. I'm opening the door for them." The party climbed the sturdy stone stairs, the flight taking a sharp left before curving up along the outer wall of the building. Though it felt like hours, only a few short minutes passed until they arrived in the Alchemists' Lab, the spacious sanctum dominated by soaring crystalline cylinders whose glowing, bubbling contents coated the room in a pale purple glow. After all the fearsome five had been through to rescue the final four survivors of this shattered settlement, the sight they soon saw was shocking, to say the least. "Oh no..." "But that means..." "Carl was right...I should have listened..." "Hey! We can blame ourselves later. Right now, if we want to live, we have to..." PREPARE FOR BATTLE! The Enemies: *Immune to Sealed, Poisoned, and Asleep* *Deals Wood-elemental damage* *Back Row* Golem Manfred Ming Type: Humanoid Level: 46 92 Health: 470/470 Special I: Instant Items - Golem Manfred uses an item from his drops (see Alchemist "Mixture" rules page), then attacks the target with strength equal to his Level. If Golem Manfred has no items in his inventory, Mixture is used instead. Alternatively, if another party member has been defeated, Golem Manfred will use the Phoenix Essence stored in his Hollow Blade to revive them. Used in place of Damage rolls and Free Hits. Special II: Mixture - Golem Manfred mixes random ingredients together and creates surprising new items. Golem Manfred adds one item to his drops; there is a 1/3 chance for him to add two items instead. Drops: Alchemist's Cheatsheet (Suitable for alchemists, 1/3 chance to make two of the same Mixture on rolls of Shield, accessory), Smelling Salts, Soma, Mulled Wine, 2x random Alchemist items (see Alchemist "Mixture" rules page), Wooden Alchemist's Hammer (WP:8 wood-elemental hammer, hollow [Phoenix Essence]) Golem Amara Jing *Immune to Afraid, Sealed, and Doomed* *Deals Wood-elemental damage* *Back Row* *Ranged (Ignores Row)* *Shroud* Type: Humanoid Level: 36 72 Health: 380/3801 Ether: 45/45 Defense: 3 Special I: Forecast - Golem Amara attempts to forecast the Lush weather condition according to Weather Mage rules, at the normal Ether cost. If all Ether is depleted, nothing happens. Used in place of Damage and Free Hits when there is no current weather condition. Special II: Disaster - Golem Amara spends 1 ether to conjure Kudzu (see Weather Mage rules), based on the current weather. If there is currently no weather condition, she instead spends 1 ether to change the weather to Lush for the remainder of the battle, unless it is changed again (see Weather & Disasters). If all ether is depleted, nothing happens. Drops: Emerald, Scroll of Disenchantment (Removes all positive effects from all opponents at the cost of 5 ether.) Note: Golem Amara's attacks cost Ether. If she is Sealed or runs out of Ether, her attacks lose their element and no longer ignore Row. Note 2: Golem Amara Jing's *Shroud*-skill makes her immune to the element the current weather is boosting. Golem Cecilia Sloane *Immune to Bleeding, Weakened, Asleep, and Fragile* *Back Row* *Ranged (ignores Row) (3 attacks)* *Commanding Assistance* Type: Humanoid Level: 85 Health: 660/660 Defense: 27 Special: Phalanx - Golem Cecilia crouches behind her shield in close formation with the rest of her party, halving her and their damage taken during the next three Rounds. If Special Damage is rolled against Golem Cecilia while Phalanx is in effect, Phalanx is extended by another three Rounds. Drops: 6-12 Scrap Metal (amount determined by roll) Note: Golem Cecilia attacks with throwing weapons; after three rolls of Damage or three Free Hits, she will move to the Front Row and retrieve her weapons on the next roll of Damage or Free Hit. If for any reason she cannot retrieve her throwing weapons, Golem Cecilia will attack from the Front Row and her attacks will no longer ignore Row. Note 2: Due to her *Commanding Assistance*, all members of the enemy party automatically remain in the same Row as Golem Cecilia Sloane as long as she lives; the trait otherwise works exactly like normal Assistance. Golem Kennedy Persephone *Immune to Confused and Asleep* *Back Row* *(Ranged) Ignores Row (1 attack)* Type: Humanoid Level: 41 82 Health: 500/500 Ether: 77/77 Defense: 2 Special: Lecture - Golem Mayor Persephone gives the target a proper teaching, using all the scrolls from his inventory and drops at the same time, each with a 2/3 chance of success. Scrolls granting negative effects are directed to the target, while those granting positive effects are aimed at himself. Golem Mayor Persephone can only use as many scrolls as his remaining Ether allows, starting from the one listed first in his inventory. Scrolls that grant pre-existing effects or ones the target is immune to are not used. If all Ether is depleted, nothing happens. Inventory (not dropped): Scroll of Arc Recklessness (Enables casting both the Encouraged Effect and the Fragile Effect on a Hero or Enemy party, each casting costs 5 ether per target and has a 50/50 chance of success.), Scroll of Luck (Grants target the Lucky-effect for one battle. Costs 10 ether.), Drops: (varies by roll) 1-3: Scroll of Arc Confusion (50/50 chance to inflict the confused-effect to all enemies for ether equal to the number of enemies), 100 gold 4-6: Scroll of Wood Warding (1/2 chance to make the target immune to wood for the duration of one battle at the cost of 1 ether), 200 gold Note: Golem Mayor Persephone attacks with a throwing weapon; after one roll of Damage or one Free Hit, he will attempt to move to the Front Row and retrieve his weapon on the next roll of Damage or Free Hit. If for any reason he cannot or does not retrieve his throwing weapon (or if he drops below half health), Golem Mayor Persephone will remain in the Back Row and focus exclusively on casting his scrolls; one random scroll will be chosen, and if the scroll inflicts a positive effect a random ally not currently under the Scroll's effect will be chosen as its target. Each scroll reading has a 2/3 chance of success; if all Ether is depleted, nothing happens. JimBee Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Hybros shrugged. "We talk. Maybe we could have worked this out if you had not attacked us. None of the other golems talked." Hybros attacks Sloane from the front row with darkness, twice. OOC: I think an autoroll would be appreciated by all. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I attack Golem Cecilia Sloane from the Back Row with my Darksteel Crossbow. Quote
Sandy Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 "Can you not hear us?" Ellaria asked the golems, perplexed by the situation. Ellaria targets the golemized mayor from the front row. The battle order is the same. OoC: Please feel free to autoroll until either the enemies have fallen or one of us is knocked out. Quote

She breathed heavily through several clearly-cracked ribs. Seeing his only standing ally in danger, Mayor Persephone quickly cast all of his spells, desperately attempting to turn the tide of battle. Despite this, however, the situation still slanted heavily in the party's favor. The Enemies: Golem Cecilia Sloane *Immune to Bleeding, Weakened, Asleep, and Fragile* *Back Row* *Ranged (ignores Row) (3 attacks)* *Commanding Assistance* *Encouraged* Type: Humanoid Level: 85 170 Health: 16/660 Defense: 27 Special: Phalanx - Golem Cecilia crouches behind her shield in close formation with the rest of her party, halving her and their damage taken during the next three Rounds. Golem Kennedy Persephone *Immune to Confused and Asleep* *Back Row* *Fragile (3 Rounds)* *Encouraged* Type: Humanoid Level: 41 82 Health: 328/500 Ether: 77/77 Defense: 2 Special: Lecture - Golem Mayor Persephone gives the target a proper teaching, using all the scrolls from his inventory and drops at the same time, each with a 2/3 chance of success. Sandy Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 OoC: I hope I am right about this... If anyone objects, let me know and we will sort this out. Ellaria's mind is boggled about what the golem's are talking about. Then she suddenly remembers what she read from the scholar's journal. Realization hits her like a tidal wave. "Wait! It's the malfunctioning perception filter! It should make golems see humans as other golems, but instead it makes humans see each other as golems! We are not attacking golems, but the actual survivors! Stop attacking, everyone!" Ellaria instead uses a Phoenix Essence on Amara Jing, hoping it might be interpreted as a gesture of truce, the while looking around at the room for something that might be the perception filter. "Someone please revive the alchemist as well. We must settle this peacefully! They cannot hear us, but we can show them we come in peace." Battle Order: Docken Thormanil Arx Hybros Hybros Ellaria Quote
swils Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I could see it... Haven't we already seen some doubles, though? And if the filter is an active thing, shouldn't they see each other as golems? If it was a spell cast and only those who were here at the time were affected, then we should see them as humans and they should see us as golems, but that wouldn't explain why we see them as golems. JimBee Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 "Hm." Hybros steps back, lowering his attack stance but not his guard. "Perhaps this spell makes everyone seem like golems to each other... but that does not explain why these four do not see each other that way. As for how the spell affected us, perhaps that statue in the inn had something to do with it... I felt strange when we were near it." "Ellaria, at least let me remedy you and Arx before you do anything. Perhaps these... people will see that we mean to save this town. Yet, they attacked us... And the Perception Filter does not explain the experiments. Where are the real golems? And where is the one that we traveled here with? Her hand was cut off, and she was acting strange, for a human. I suppose she was captured that night at the camp by other golems or the townspeople? I do not understand... but I am willing to try peaceful measures before we attack. Perhaps if we take them down softly, they will snap out of it..." Quote

"I can't logically explain it, but these four are not like the golems we have encountered before - they can talk, for starters, and they actually care for each other. The family of golems we butchered first just attacked with pure frenzy. Let us at least test my theory for a round, then we can return to our scheduled slaughtering if they do not react positively. Just do not attack, anyone." Instead of the Phoenix Essence, Ellaria decides to use a Potion on the golem Persephone, holding her hands up as she does it. Maybe that would appease Sloane, who seemed to be the most aggressive of the golems. Quote
