JimBee Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 OOC: I assumed it would be random, so yes, I would like the scroll to be random. Hybros sets his eyes on the duplicate. His allies had decided to dispose of their counterparts, but there was something intriguing about having someone like him. Even if he had to stay in the village, perhaps eventually some solution could be reached. Quote
Flipz Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Four of the golems stood still, some sorrowfully, some steadfastly, as Amara summoned vines to climb up them and compress, instantly crushing them to dust. As each disintegrated, a miniscule fragment of light emerged from each "corpse" and flew back to its original owner. The Weather Mage turned to the Golem Hybros, scroll in hand, but at the last moment turned the counterspell over to her father, who nodded and cast it upon the golem monk... ********* Hallow's Eve Inn of the Wayward Angel In an instant, the candles re-light themselves, forcing the storytellers of the Midnight Society to shield their eyes as they waited for them to adjust--all but Mallora, naturally, who seemed unfazed by the sudden brightness. "That night, we all learned a grim lesson, paid at a terrible price: the greatest danger lies not from the monsters without, but from the monsters within ourselves." "...so wait, is that it? What happened to the Heroes? And to the last golem?" "The Heroes returned to Eubric, and us with them. We accompanied them to the Guild of Invision, where my father explained the whole story--the mysterious notes he'd received threatening me and Amara, the decision to create golems to bolster the guard forces, the way the situation had spiraled out of control as he looked into forbidden magic to try and protect us, how that magic had backfired, causing our own duplicates to create Hero doppelgangers, turning those who had tried to be our defenders into our destroyers. The Heroes returned to their Hall, perhaps feeling a bit wiser for their experience, while the rest of us found our way to a certain wayward inn..." As their sight returned, the other members of the Midnight Society could see two figures standing at the foot of the stairs: a curly-haired redhead who could only be Mallora's sister... ...and a blank-faced impish monk, Ruby in hand. JimBee Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 As Hybros departed, he rubbed his eyes. It had been a long... well, he wasn't even sure how long it had been since he had left for this quest. It was strange, being in two places at once. The counterspell had worked, and now a part of him was living in Towr. Perhaps he would someday visit to see how... his own? progress had come along. For now, though, he had larger problems on his mind. Still confused about the whole thing, he waved goodbye to the citizens of Towr, still wondering what the town's fate would be now that most of the people appeared to be dead. It was a lingering pain, for they had realized their mistake far too late. Or rather, their golem counterparts. He looked to his allies once again, and with a grimace, pushed open the doors of Heroica Hall. OOC: Thanks for the quest, Flipz. Quote
Sandy Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 OoC: Thank you for the quest, Flipz! Plotholes aside, the story was touching! And thanks to everyone else for the company - especially JimBee for saving my megablocks multiple times when it came to battle strategies. The fate of Towr weighed heavily on Ellaria, but at least she had been able to talk about it with her companions during their trip back to Eubric. She personally knew how fragile and flimsy life was, so she could only be grateful that she had been able to save at least few of the citizens. Or rather her golem counterpart had. Once the golems had perished, all of the golem's memories had transferred to Ellaria, making the whole quest a disjointed experience that she had lived through in two separate bodies. It reminded her of the time deep below Uland, when the spirits had split her up to two. Both of these events had fractured her soul, but it was whole again. It was time to sew the pieces together. For that, she needed a new direction to her life - and the Guild of Invision might offer her just that. "See you soon!" Ellaria hollered to Hybros as he disappeared into Heroica Hall. She herself needed to return to the apothecary to practice. The Guild would not accept just anyone as a member, despite reputation... Quote
