Flipz Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 QM Note: What did you do to those dice to make them hate you so much, Doc?! Round 6 of Brawl in the Basement: Docken (Unlucky Horseshoe) vs. Small Golem A (back) - Hit (Small Golem A: dodged! roll of 2 ) Thormanil (Shishkebab) vs. Small Golem A (front) - High Assault (Small Golem A: no dodge (roll of 6), 16*5=80+41=121*2=242-2=240+240=480 (KO! Finally!)) Hybros (Darkness) vs. Masculine Golem - Critical Martial Hit Critical Martial Hit (Masculine Golem: 32.75*3=98+6=104*2*2=416-10=406 damage (KO!); Hybros: -1 Ether) Hybros: Transcended (+1 Ether) The Warden threw his weapon, for what looked to be a solid hit, only for the smaller golem to roll out of the way...directly into Thormanil's felling strike, the blow raining dust and gravel everywhere. The masculine golem hesitated, just for a moment, and Hybros obliterated him, his zenlike transcendence restoring one last bit of Ether before it faded. THE BATTLE WAS VICORIOUS! JimBee Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Hybros brushes off his hands. "Well, that was not so bad, eheh... I wonder who conjured up those flesh golems, though... has anyone seen such creatures before?" "We may as well look at that storekeeprs note... and the key must open up that tower. So much for searching the whole town, right Ellaria? Hehehe..." Hybros looks around the basement for anything useful. "Docken, did you not find another note upstairs?" Quote

JimBee Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Hybros stares at the half-giant, whose name he still had yet to find out. And his dragon... the imp had only fought against dragons before, never beside one. It was a gratifying experience, and the azure-scaled serpent was good in battle. He just hoped that he wouldn't have to face this one some day. He remembered stories about dragons in the Low Kingdoms before he came to Eubric. Creatures of wealth and power, so large that they could block out the sun. He never thought that he would meet one, until his third quest in Heroica. The stories were exaggerated, yes, but Hybros had not seen anything so simultaneously ferocious and majestic. He recalled the fear that that dragon had stirred, but the imp stood strong with his companions in a grueling battle. But what he remembered most was the dragon and its young finally giving up, and taking to the skies westward towards their home in Dastan. Hybros wondered what became of them. "All that for a pile of gold... Heh! I suppose I am not much different... eheh..." he remarked to himself. He tugged on Ellaria's sleeve. "Psst, ehehm... who is that large man that we are traveling with? We have not made our acquaintance and... ehem, it seems I am too small for him to notice." OoC: It's JimB's fault; he took all the good rolls. OOC: The rare instance when being Lucky is a bad thing: being a Chi Monk. Quote
Sandy Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 He tugged on Ellaria's sleeve. "Psst, ehehm... who is that large man that we are traveling with? We have not made our acquaintance and... ehem, it seems I am too small for him to notice." "That is Mr. Thormanil Nihai", Ellaria said, smiling at Hybros's timidness. "Not a man of many words, it seems, but I think he is harmless. His dragon is cute, too, the name's Arx. Just go ahead and talk to him, you silly imp!" Quote
JimBee Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 "That is Mr. Thormanil Nihai", Ellaria said, smiling at Hybros's timidness. "Not a man of many words, it seems, but I think he is harmless. swils Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 "Aye, sorry, Hybros was it? I dunno where my head's been lately. Heh, Docken could tell ya, I'm usually breakin' doors down and causin' more of a mess. If I'd known you were just gonna punch clear through the door, I wouldn't have gone around lookin' for a hidden switch, hah!" Quote
Flipz Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 I read the Note and the Incomplete Formula that I found earlier. Incomplete Formula: (found: blacksmith) Failure of...other possibilities. Consider... ...stoneskin...success. Establish... Unsuccessful...loss of stability. ...mechanism of control...Consult Amara? The note he had found upstairs seemed to have been from a diary entry; the date was smudged, but the author clear: one Portia Baker, the town butcher's wife judging by the segment of the previous entry at the top of the page. Dear Diary, Today Cecilia--sorry, 'Captain Sloane'--called Jim in for another one of those strange Tower experiments. He, of course, is overjoyed, but I do so wish he wouldn't go. I don't trust those alchemists in the tower. Just what are these 'better guards' they promised supposed to accomplish anyhow? And why did they need all of us to come in to the Tower for their work? I wish I knew--or maybe I don't. Who knows what awful things they're doing in there? I don't even remember much of my appointment, and I don't want to--what I do remember still haunts my nightmares. You know, maybe I'll go talk to the Butchers at the General Store about this. Gideon seems to be the only one as sceptical as me about this new project of theirs, and his daughter is marrying Kent's younger brother. Maybe, somehow, he can put a stop to all this before something terrible happens. Judging by the blank space at the bottom, this was the last entry ever written in the diary. Hybros brushes off his hands. The Storekeeper's Note, hastily scrawled, wrinkled and torn, carried even more fears like Miss Baker's. I'm writin' this in case somethin' goes wrong and the town's stupidity gets me killed. Hopefully the folks that make it through'll read this an' realize how damned irresponsible Kennedy's bein'. Damned hypocrite, too--he's makin' every single one of us go in there an' make an 'imprint' or whatever, yet he keeps his own daughter out of it. Poor girl...not her fault who her fool father is. Anyway, this new 'guard program' or whatever fool thing they're callin' it now, is an abomination. They keep sayin' they can make it work, an' I keep sayin' they can just teach the damn guards to do a better job instead o' messin' with peoples' souls. Ya get one soul in this life an' ya take it to the next, so ya have to be damned careful with it--an' that's the opposite o' what they're doin'. Hel, they ain't even bein' careful with the easy crap. Just yesterday Piro said he saw a buncha figures wanderin' out by the Tower, obscured by the mist--an' they attacked him on sight! He ain't the only one seen 'em 'round the place, either. I don't care how much business them stinkin' alchemists have brought this town, I don't trust 'em--they're up to somethin', even though they say different. Well I say damn 'em all! Piro's predictin' doom, and for once I agree! He's leavin' town, and I think he's got the right idea--Hel, if my daughter weren't engaged to the damn clerk, we'd be packin' up, too. I don't care what that loon Persephone says, me and mine aren't settin' one foot inside that damn Tower, and if people're smart they'll feel the same way. Right now, though, I gotta make sure the wife and the twins are safe. If you're readin' this, that means they got me, an' probably them too. But if by some miracle Sandra an' them got away--find em. Take care o' em. Please. An' kill the ones that got me if'n you can. The world's had enough of me as it is--no sense in no monster takin' my place. --Gideon Butcher The basement was filled with hastily-stacked furniture and goods, some of them stained with dried blood--judging by the state of it, one of the golems must have been in the process of cleaning it off when they had been interrupted. Sandy Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 After reading the notes herself, Ellaria shook her head in confusion. "So wait... the butcher's last name is Baker, and the storekeeper's is Butcher? Talk about inbreeding... Anyway, I am afraid the note confirms that the golems we just faced were the storekeeper and his family. How sad... Let's return upstairs, and if we don't find anything of use, we will continue to the Town Hall." Quote
JimBee Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 "Hm... I am sure we will find the meaning of these notes later on. I agree we should check the rest of the town for further clues before entering the tower." "Aye, sorry, Hybros was it? I dunno where my head's been lately. Heh, Docken could tell ya, I'm usually breakin' doors down and causin' more of a mess. If I'd known you were just gonna punch clear through the door, I wouldn't have gone around lookin' for a hidden switch, hah!" Hybros perked up. "Ehem, yes, mister Thormanil. If you would ever like to take a turn at breaking down the door, stop me before I do, heheheh." Quote
Brickdoctor Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Returning upstairs, I investigate the chest of apples. Quote
Flipz Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Ellaria smiles and nods to Hybros. "It seems we struck gold by following the golem. We now have access to the Tower, but we should probably search the rest of the village first." Once the basement is searched, Ellaria returns upstairs and investigates the chest and the backpack. Returning upstairs, I investigate the chest of apples. As she returned upstairs, the Druid decided to examine the looted remnants of the store's wares. The closed chest contained clothes, but a gold ore sat beside it; similarly, the backpack contained another 20 gold, some of which had spilled onto the table next to it. While the Druid discovered shiny stuff, the Warden watched the chest of produce, discovering within four beautiful apples. 2x Healthy Apple (permanently raises maximum health by one) 2x Big Apple (Raises power by one permanently when eaten.) The store searched, the beings battled, the party now had to decide where they wanted to venture next. Quote

Sandy Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 The store searched, the beings battled, the party now had to decide where they wanted to venture next. Ellaria felt bad for taking the gold of the family she just helped to butcher, but there was no point leaving the valuables behind. "Alright, this place seems to be thoroughly looted... I mean, investigated. Let's return to the Town Hall, then." Quote
JimBee Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 "Oh, um, thanks..." Hybros looked around, and ate the two Big Apples. "I am ready to move on." Quote

A quick glimpse through the empty, dust-ridden halls revealed but two things of interest: two doors, one marked as leading to the meeting room, the other to the Mayor's Office. Which would the party peruse first? Edited November 23, 2014 by Flipz Quote

Sandy Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 OoC: If you don't want us to split, Flipz, just say so. I just thought we could use a little speed boost to this quest. "It should be safe for us to split up while we are inside the same building. Master Docken and Hybros, you check the Mayor's Office, while me and Mr. Nihai go to the Meeting Room. If you encounter trouble, just shout." Quote
