I got my copy of the ComicCon exclusive Tahu mask today for $30 and I'm sorta regretting spending that much on one mask. Yeah, there's (assumed) only 1,500 of 'em made, but I'm seeing more and more people getting them. Though, I can see them selling for $60+ in a couple years or so.

1500 is a LOT for a niche theme, especially since Bionicle's fanbase isn't going to start growing quickly until the sets are out, the commercials are on TV, and new fans start flocking to the series. At the very least you can take comfort in the fact that once the fanbase DOES start growing exponentially, there's a decent chance that demand for the clear Hau will cause a hike in its selling price.

Anywho, $30 isn't worth getting that broken up about. It's a lot for a single piece of plastic, but it's also less than a day's pay if you're working full-time at minimum wage or better. So applying a little more frugality to the rest of your budget for a while should be enough to help you recoup your losses before long.

The initial Comic-con hype for the mask died down quickly- they were selling for $200 during Comic-con week. At this point most people who were willing to sell a kidney got one and are flaunting that they got it, so it seems like a lot of people have them. I would still say 1500 is a considerably rare number. Think how many standard red Hau's are likely to be produced in the 2015 run, leaps and bounds above 1500. (Actually that would be an interesting statistic to have..)

Now the trans-orange ones... :P

If you were sent Tahu for the BZP review I expect to see him wearing one of those trans-orange Haus...whilst swimming in a pool of the other trans-orange and clear ones... :tongue:

(Sorry for the typo-title ;( )

Well, at least I can take in some comfort in the fact they're pretty valuable to collectors.

WAIT...trans-orange Hau?! Can you post a picture?! I gotta see this!

Augh, you, auuuuugh

Anyway, they're reasonably rare. But the price has bottomed out at about 30 (I spent 50, but I had some cash from selling things on eBay), so compared to some other collectibles, it's not that much.

Like others have said, the mask is reasonably rare, but I think $30 is a reasonable price as well for a reasonably rare con exclusive, considering that some other con exclusives are worth a LOT more (for argument's sake, I'm ignoring the theme). Indeed, I would snap one up in a heartbeat for that price... if it wasn't for the fact that I live in the UK where the mask is much more expensive, even when it's imported from the US :cry_sad:(I mean, the UK's postal service charges completely absurd customs fees on $30 items, it would cost more like $60 in the end. If it was $25 however... different story)

Well;

1,500 masks were given out at NYCC

100 masks were given out at the NYCC VIP Event

1 mask was given out via a twitter competition

As such that means a minimum of 1,601 masks in circulation in a fan base consisting of around 13,000 if we believe the Bionicle Facebook page.
