JaseTJ Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Sorry if the discussion is over, but I highly doubt it is... The reason it's okay that Lego approved BBT for an Ideas set- despite still being focused as a company on children (their views have not shifted- not much, anyways)- is that Ideas is ultimately an AFOL site. Sure a kid could build something to submit, but (and this is a guess) I seem to recall there being an age limit for making projects. Even if a kid had a good enough idea, their model would likely not be good enough to garner supporters, and they would probably need parental help to get it up in the first place. Simply put, ideas sets are more for adults than kids. The only exception to that is Minecraft, which they've extended into a full line for the kids anyways. Quote
Venunder Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I have to say I was a reluctant watcher of the Big Bang Theory due to the nerdy, geekiness. At first like some people here I also thought the writers were just making fun of the characters in a bullying way. But as I watched more episodes I began to find that this was not true. However it is a tightrope they walk for each episode and sometimes I find myself thinking that was too far or too much. I now believe that there should probably be one more season of TBBT before the show becomes too familiar, tired, overwritten etc. They should end on the top of their game and not drag it down in quality just because it is popular. I think this ties in with promotion for a Lego ideas set whcih makes the Lego set the ultimate collectible for fans of the show. The Little Birds is a great Ideas set, which ties in with the Lego Creator animals. The Market for this could be huge, if even one tenth of a percent of the birders and twitchers decide to buy a set. Okay so the Twitchers might not be interested, but some birders will be. I apologise to any birders/twitchers here if I have misunderstood your hobby. :) Quote

Steph 104th Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 With action figures and Death Stars all being included in the origional, how will this transend into an offical set, either leave them out or their will be quite a few licencing agreements. Quote
JaseTJ Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I actually doubt that will be an issue. Big Bang Theory obviously has their licenses all sorted for that kind of stuff, and Lego already has licenses for Star Wars, DC, etc... I don't see why there should be any issue *shrug* Quote

EvilTwin Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 So we have a Lego set of the Simpsons, on which Stephen Hawking has appeared as a guest star. And now we have a (future) Lego set of the Big Bang Theory, on which Stephen Hawking has appeared as a guest star. I'm pretty sure I've seen a MOC somewhere of Hawking himself News headline: "REVEALED: theoretical physicist is sinister controller of Lego Group set design. Brief History of Time sets rumoured" I will definitely be looking out for the TBBT set. I am hoping there will be an all-Lego episode of the series, like there was for the Simpsons --- EvilTwin Quote
SMC Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 ^ James Earl Jones has been in both and has a bigger link to Lego. Quote

The Brick Bang Theory While Sheldon and Leonard are walking nearby a toy store they see a set which represents them 010# The Big Bang Theory.Sheldon then aks Leonard "Is it just me or do those LEGO Minifigures look like us?.Then the Guest Star (Jorgen Vig Knudstorp current Owner of LEGO) comes out of the store and says "Hey its you guys from the set. Then Sheldon Says "Oh,so it isn't just me.Sheldon buys the set and they head home. They Invite everyone.Penny and Amy come first, proceeded by Howard and Bernadette and then Raj and Emily.Howard says "What in the world is that thing?.Sheldon replies and says "its us.".Penny replies confused "Us?".Raj then says "How come this set doesnt have Emily?".Howard says "Isn't it obvious it already has 3 Girls".The Episode ends with Sheldon saying "I Wonder who made this set". SMC Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 ^ More likely the boys buy personalised Lego mini figures of the gang off the internet and Bernadette gets upset that they gave her short legs. Quote
gedren_y Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Maybe they should include Priya. As Raj's sister she would round out the list. The report that has been linked says eight figs, but shows the preliminary designed seven. The image has the Lego chihuahua in place of Cinnamon, who is a yorkie. I wonder if Lego will try to do a recolor, since Ideas only uses existing Lego parts. Quote
Cagast Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Hmmm Rajesh and Howard Wolowitz need to use Larry the barista's hairpiece Quote
Borador Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) I honestly don't believe it. I like the show, but I'm actually not too happy that LEGO picked this. It just feels wrong. I mean, The Simpsons is one thing; if I recall correctly, that show was far, far more family oriented when it first premiered. But The Simpsons are such a pop-culture icon that it really didn't matter how adult they had become; they were a notable absence on LEGO's roster. The Big Bang Theory is... Popular. But I don't think it's really on the same level as, say, The Simpsons, or Star Wars. It's a sitcom, and a very adult-oriented one at that. It just feels wrong for LEGO to make it, and to be totally honest, I wish they hadn't. I wonder why they even picked it? Oh well, I can at least look forward to A) A proper LEGO Sheldon, and B) The response from LEGO's Parents Boards. Oh, and the pictures posted earlier are not preliminary, they are the project pictures. Everything is going to be changed very heavily, Cinnamon will probably not be included at all, unless they have a Yorkie mold they're sitting on, but I doubt it. EDIT: Almost forgot! I seriously doubt they're going to do a LEGO episode of the Big Bang Theory. They just did that with the Simpsons, it's too early to do it again. Although, the Simpsons just did a crossover with Family Guy, and now, like a month or so later, they're crossing over with Futurama... Hm? Edited November 10, 2014 by Borador Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I don't see all the fuss about this set being created. People were asking for a more adult or AFOL themed sets and now that they get one, they are complaining about TLGs principles and ethics?! I never really watched the show and have no idea what it's about. I can say that I didn't like it from the few glipses I had at it, but know a lot of people who do. I'll definitely buy this set, for I see it as parts pack especially for some new fleshy minifig heads. And yes it is simple as said - if someone thinks the set is inappropriate your best message to TLG is by not buying it ... I don't really care if LEGO decides to produce the "real" adult toys shop as a set. If I like the parts in it I'll buy, else I wont - no big deal about it. Quote
strangely Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I'm not overly surprised this happened. Lego has been slowly edging themselves into the adult market for a while, this set is just more of that. Granted this show has a lot of things in it that don't really fit into the Lego standards, but I'm sure the rules don't apply the same when making a product directed almost completely at adults and teenagers. Whereas the Simpsons had appeal to most audiences this set definitely isn't intended for kids. Quote
badbob001 Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I don't watch the show (only because I have too many other shows to watch and it seems like I would be many years behind if I started now) but I will probably still get this if it is detailed enough. Maybe I can use it to furnish the 2nd or 3rd floor of the Cafe Corner. Quote
JaseTJ Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Honestly I'd be a bit surprised if they included 'figs beyond Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Howard, and Raj. I haven't watched the more recent episodes, so I guess I can't say how big a part of the show the other girls are, but I still wouldn't be surprised if they limited it to the main five from the beginning of the show. BBT and the Simpsons are different universes, i think they can do a BBT episode Also i don't get that everyone is shocked about this theme but not about the simpson's being a set AND a minifigure line? I mean i have watched the Simpsons in my early ages and i don't find that appropriate for children, the Big Bang Theory is far more appropriate if you overlook the sex talk Edited November 10, 2014 by kevkipo Quote
Cagast Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 This is proof that LEGO can make sitcoms sets which include sex talk in it. I never thought LEGO will approve sets about shows like that, but it did. This is great for me because we can get sets from other 'inappropriate for kids' films and shows. And I don't watch this show so i don't know much but if you think this is inappropriate, don't buy it. LEGO will say that this is for older audience. Quote
