Jim Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Hi! I would like to present you my TC5 competition entry: I named her The Dawnbreaker I think I'm in love with this image Fantastic looking model. Orange and Black is such a cool color combination. Well done. What a great build! I could see this on the shelves and selling well. Definitely! I would grab this box instantly. Edited November 16, 2014 by Alasdair Ryan Removed image for fun :- Quote
LegoMathijs Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Great entry! would be a nice A model Quote
jantjeuh Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Someone ban Jim for quoting large images But yeah, that image is excellent. Definitely top 3 quality here. Quote
miguev Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Thanks miguev, perhapse you should start looking for a good price on 42026, 'cause I've already taken photos of building sequnce, they just need a bit/lot of editing, since I wasn't paying too much attention to lighting, and some came out a bit fuzzy, maybe I'll just redo it. I think I'll get the BI (photo sequence, nothing fancy) out on rebrickable, but probably best after this competition is finished... I don't know, perhapse it would be good if someone tried it out before voting, or bad, if the model doesn't live up to expectations. I guess I'll have to sleep on this one... I'm already planning to take ideas from your model to try do one for the competition myself, although I seriously doubt I'll manage to get it done before the deadline. Anyway, great to hear you'll put it up in Bricklink, thank you for that! Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) I think I'm in love with this image Someone ban Jim for quoting large images But yeah, that image is excellent. Definitely top 3 quality here. Wow, thank you guys for such compliment. Actually, members Thirdwig, Splat and you Jim are responsible for these photos, since I read this thread a couple times, drulling over Jim's photos of the official models and gave those advice a shot. I have borrowed a Canon EOS 450D with a fixed focal length Canon 50mm from a good friend of mine quite some time ago, but struggled with lighting setup and didn't actually know which setup would be best. I don't have a normal tripod, just a micro one, so I had to stack plastic boxes to get a good height and angle, lights that I use are hobby construction line halogens, that I borrowed from my dad, again no stands. When I set everything up, I almost couldn't move in my 2 by 2,5 meter working room . Anyway, the results are by far better than anything else I've taken before, ofcourse some work in Photoshop was also done. The one thing I didn't follow was RAW format, because I still use CS2 and it doesn't support RAW images, at least the version I have. About the actual photo you guys like: There is one bit that bothered me the whole time, and I think I made it right on the photo below. Can you tell what did I repair, cause if you don't, then it's just me and I'm overreacting. At least my wife thinks I do Old one: And the new one: Thanks again for such kind words. @miguev: No problem, but I think I'll wait till the competition ends, in case I decide to change something... Best regards, miha Edited November 11, 2014 by MajklSpajkl Quote
jesse66058 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 The left frontwheel is better focused in the new picture? Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Yes jesse66085, it looks better right? Fuzziness on that wheel on the first photo really bothered me, but only when Jim highlighted the photo I tried to repair it. I didn't thought of the solution earlier :-) Edited November 11, 2014 by MajklSpajkl Quote
Jim Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Can you shoot a RAW version of the last picture and send it to me? (I will PM my email address) You've managed to get a very decent exposure/lighting Quote
Mestari Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 You have also changed (decreased) saturation a bit. I like the second one better :) And the model too! Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Very nice looking off-roader huge caster(castor?) angle needed for the pull back to work properly - not much ground clearance - liited by the wheels of the sets you chose but that would look ace with larger wheeels I believe "caster" is the right word and spelled ok, it's what I've found on the net. I agree, ground clearance is low, the front hits the ground when fully compressed. About bigger wheels, I tried a couple I have, nothing satisfying really, I'll try to take some photos over the weekend. Can you shoot a RAW version of the last picture and send it to me? (I will PM my email address) You've managed to get a very decent exposure/lighting Thanks, I sent you a PM. You have also changed (decreased) saturation a bit. I like the second one better :) And the model too! Thanks, saturation? I don't know much about :-), I just selected the blury wheel in PS and used smart sharpen filter tool until I was content... So much about my theoretical knowledge on photography ;-) Quote
KirTech LAB Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Very cool model and very interesting design! Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 Very nice looking off-roader huge caster(castor?) angle needed for the pull back to work properly - not much ground clearance - limited by the wheels of the sets you chose but that would look ace with larger wheeels Well, Rockbrick got me wondering. At first 68.7x34R seemed really ridiculous to me, but the more I look at them, mounted on this little horsey, the more I like it What do you think, I say it's too bad the 9392 Quad had such small wheels. I have no other wheels between those two sizes, and anything bigger would be, well, just ridiculous Cheers! Quote
Tomik Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 I like it with bigger wheels more. It remembers me this future car from past. Quote
zweihander Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Awesome model! Congratulations, I really like it. It looks terrific with those larger wheels too. Quote

Jim Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Let's see what a bit of post processing can do: First Version Reshot in RAW White Balance Corrected Full Post Processing (quickly done, whitening could be better) Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 (edited) This is defiantly a great entry,I think this entry will do well. Someone ban Jim for quoting large images That would be a first on Eurobricks, banning a moderator. Edited November 16, 2014 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 (edited) Wow Jim , I have so much to learn! Do you think that, besides my poor skills, RAW footage does the job so much better then JPEG post processing? Although, I did take both photos myself . You said you worked in lightroom, do you think it is better for our purposes then PS? Definetly gotta try it out. Could you please send me this one, and maybe some others in high resolution, if you'll process them of course. Maybe the one from the side (the longitudinal cross section one). Thanks! Oh, and I promise I won't use those for the entry topic, I guess those should stay mine . Edited November 16, 2014 by MajklSpajkl Quote
Jim Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Photoshop can do everything that Lightroom does. But Lightroom is targeted towards processing and storing collections of photos. I don't use Photoshop for this, so I am no expert on what PS can or can't. Since I bought a camera, I have been using Lightroom and I really like it. It's much cheaper too, if you are interested in buying an official license. It cost's around 100 USD. I will do some more pictures and send them to you, no problem! Shooting RAW means you have the original image, unedited. When you shoot JPG the camera already does some editing and compression etc. So by using RAW you have the purest form of the picture. But it all depends on what you want to do with the picture. I do think that when you plan on post processing your images, you are better of using RAW.
