November 12, 201410 yr Author will it be able to take lego curves, or just straight curves? click on the link: https://www.flickr.c...07/15773138555/
November 12, 201410 yr That will clear out any scenery on a regular layout! It'll turn it into a desert. Wait, didn't these locomotives operate in the desert? Dan-147
November 12, 201410 yr click on the link: https://www.flickr.c...07/15773138555/ Think we need to change the nickname from Centennials to Street Sweepers, poor buildings its gonna take out might have people in them Although some of that ME track coming out I bet it would be pretty awesome
November 13, 201410 yr I think you just have to set your buildings back at least 16 studs near the curves. It's fun watching it going around those curves.
November 16, 201410 yr Read the thread title, and this comes to mind: ME Models should soon have the solution for the curve negotiation problem. Long locos are perfect for pulling long trains for the long haul. Edited November 16, 201410 yr by splatman
November 22, 201410 yr Just finished to order the pieces, now I'm working on decals ...and I know how you feel when a CAD project is done! It will be nice to show our work next weeks...
December 8, 201410 yr Author Still waiting on some orders but with I allready got I've started the build: And a comparison with a normal LEGO train so you get just how big this thing is going to be: WIP DDA40X by Barduck12, on Flickr
December 9, 201410 yr "I have this strange feeling that I'm forgetting something... nah, couldn't be."
December 9, 201410 yr Watching this go around a corner is silly. I think it'll be sillier to see it going about on an otherwise Lego-standard layout too. Good luck!
December 12, 201410 yr Author A bit more progress, but still a lot of pieces missing so I can't continue until those arrive: WIP DDA40X by Barduck12, on Flickr Comments, tip, all welcome
December 15, 201410 yr Author Bit more work done, but again, waiting on parts to arrive (I've even noticed I forgot to order 2 parts). Do notice that the tank is in the wrong position, I've noticed when taking the pictures, she needs to be reversed and that's now been done too. The updates: WIP DDA40X by Barduck12, on Flickr These will be the last WIP pictures, next ones will come when the model is finished and driving Edited December 15, 201410 yr by Barduck
December 15, 201410 yr Truly awesome. I am in awe. So... Rolling stock... I assume you plan on it pulling more than a couple of cable reels and a cow. Can't wait to see it complete.
December 15, 201410 yr Author Truly awesome. I am in awe. So... Rolling stock... I assume you plan on it pulling more than a couple of cable reels and a cow. Can't wait to see it complete. well, rolling stock won't be a problem, allready have 6 coaches done. And since the only one still in operation gets used to pull similar coaches it won't look out of place
December 15, 201410 yr It would be nice to show our work side by side when your locomotive is completed ...and is very nice to see your first decals on this beauty!
December 15, 201410 yr Looking good, though I hate to see how big the track curves are going to be......lots of flexi-track I would say ! Brick On 'Barduck' !
December 15, 201410 yr Author It would be nice to show our work side by side when your locomotive is completed ...and is very nice to see your first decals on this beauty! Those decals are from microscale decals I think, the actual UNION PACIFIC text that's going to go on the sides will be done in what they call cut letters, so basicly a sheet of colored vinyl where the letters are cut out (I'm going to have them make them a few times for when applying them turns out to be harder then anticipated)
December 18, 201410 yr Author I wasn't going to post any more WIP pictures and so but one thing I just can't wait to share, the vid of her "maiden" voyage. Still missing some things and the decals but at least she runs. Haven't tested her to take switches but I think she can, with the condition that the switch doesn't come right after a turn or her belly will hit the part where the stick for the switch goes. December 19, 201410 yr well, rolling stock won't be a problem, allready have 6 coaches done. And since the only one still in operation gets used to pull similar coaches it won't look out of place I was going to say, you really should start building those 100+ freight cars (grin). It will look great at the head of a passenger train. I wasn't going to post any more WIP pictures and so but one thing I just can't wait to share, the vid of her "maiden" voyage. The video: https://www.flickr.c...07/16046693231/ Looking good (really good given the limitations of lego curves). From the photos I noticed that you put the two IR receivers in the walkway on the long hood. Are they set to the same channel or different channels? How well does it respond to the controller?
December 19, 201410 yr Author Looking good (really good given the limitations of lego curves). From the photos I noticed that you put the two IR receivers in the walkway on the long hood. Are they set to the same channel or different channels? How well does it respond to the controller? They are indeed on the same channel (blue 3 to be precise). Putting them on different channels/colors would be to much trouble to set them both to same speed. Haven't noticed any trouble to control her yet, but offcourse the room she was in is small, I'll just have to wait and see how she'll behave on expo's, first one is end off februari. I do have to say that I'm quite happy that she drives this nicely. Edited December 19, 201410 yr by Barduck
