Samsung Blackjack.

My ringtone varies between Whitesnake, Van Halen, Boston, AC/DC, Rush and Def Leppard. It really turns heads when my phone goes off in the executive meetings. Yes, I am stuck in the 1980's...

Slightly embarassingly?

Nokia 3510i

That said though, I've had it three and a half years and it still works. So I must be doing something right.

I had a Nokia N80 up until last week, then my contract went up for "negotiation" :-D Ended up renewing my contract and getting an Orange SPV M3100 (Which is actually a HTC TyTN, a Windows Mobile device).

I love my phone. X-D

At the moment I'm using some weird Nokia (with a full QWERTY keyboard that can be folded out) that I found in a drawer at work, since my regular Nokia 6021 has some keyboard error (the '6'-button doesn't work, and '3' and '9' only work a little). Before I got the 6021 I used a Nokia 3310 for 4 years. So, I guess you could say I'm a bit Nokia focused :-P

I really never use it, but when I do, it's a Nokia 2600.

All I really care about is getting a transmission from point A to point B. *y*

Yeah, a phone is a phone. It doesn't need an Mp3 player, I can buy one if I want one (which I don't). It doesn't need the Internet, I can buy a computer for that. It doesn't need a camera, I can actually buy a camera.

Luddite on!

Well, I don't mind the concept of a mobile internet browser, but at the time being there is not one near the standards of any PC, so it's mostly worthless to me. I too do not feel the need for an mp3 player whatsoever, and I would never want a contemporary camera phone due to the poor resolution, zoom, and autofocus. Any pictures taken on a mobile telephone are basically completely useless. Of course, you could always have fun (!) by setting a picture you've taken of your friend's nose to your wallpaper (?!?) multiple times each day (....). :-|

Additionally, none of these portable telephones are truly cellular anymore. Now they're supposed to be just "mobile telephones" since they no longer operate in the cellular RF band......

I use mine as an organiser first, a phone second. I hate using phones, and seven years in the Navy didn't change my mind! However, I love organisers and have been using one since my IQ-7200 from the 80s. (I still have it too!) Thus I chose an organiser that happens to be a phone as well. (That is the Treo 600 I mentioned earlier.) Its ability to browse the web and recieve EMail is useful if I am away for a few days, but I prefer not to as the network charges are excessive. It can also be used to read books (painfully), play movies and I use it as an MP3 player occasionally. The camera is useful if I want to record the price of a Lego set, but not for much else. Like all phone cameras the lens is way too small. I find it incredible that it, even though it is about three years old now, has the same speed CPU, same on board memory and same external storage as my Pentium from ten years ago. Wow. (I'm such a geek.)

I'll get back in my box now.

As this is EB I think the thread title should refer to 'mobile'... X-D How many euros use 'cell phone'? Or is Ireland just some exception?

God Bless,

Nathan

Australians call them "Mobile Phones" too.

Samsung E370. The camera's not great, but it's okay when I'm out and about and without a proper camera. However, I occasionally use the mp3 player and it's tiny 40MB memory X-D

Exactly. I mean, it's not as if you can actually see anything on the tiny screen, and if you have a black-and-white phone, it's even worse.

I use mine as an organiser first, a phone second.

I think a PDA or Organiser is probably the only 'phone gadget' that I can stretch to seeing as a bit useful. Especially as it tends to be PDA then phone, as opposed to the other way round.

I have a 'calender' on my phone. I don't really use it, as I tend to be able to remember all important dates, birthdays, etc. But I could see it as being useful.

Another useless extra on my phone is the 'wallet.' Yes, my phone has a wallet. I think (I don't know I never used it) you can store info about bank balance, etc. What's wrong with checking at a cash machine or working it out?

I have a Sony Ericsson T230:

sony_ericsson_t230.jpg

It's my first phone and I've had it for ages. I think the color screen was brand new in those days :-D . No camera or mp3 or any gadgets, just a phone, so I can call and send text messages with it. I don't need anything else anyway.

Phones are for calling, but some of those added things are nice.

But there are some phones *coughiphonecough* that I don't even consider phonea anymore. It's kind of funny, I read reviews for the iPhone, everything's great, GPS, Internet, Camera, etc. except for...

Drumroll please....

Calling. :-P

I used to feel the same way about phone with additional features when I first got a phone. But then I got a phone with a built in camera. It turned out to be a good way of recording random moments with friends which couldn't be planned. The type of photo you could show them five years down the line and say "Remember when...!" and you'd all burst into laughter.

But then I also turned into a bit of a gadget freak. My current phone as I mentioned is an Orange SPV M3100, which is a Windows Mobile "smartphone". This thing does everything except the dishes!

I use just about every function of it now. The camera is good enough (3 megapixels) that it's replaced my digital camera. I add "Tasks" to the phone like "Pay electricity bill" and it'll show a reminder on the day it needs to be paid. I not only send text messages on it, but I synchronise my email messages with my account so my phone alerts me when I have a new email and I can read it on my phone. It has MSN Messenger on it so I can chat to my friends on the train. It has Bluetooth so I can send photos for free to people I'm with, and Wifi so I can browse the internet for free whenever I'm within range of a hotspot. I could go on and on...

On top of replacing my camera any any possible diary or planner I could have, it's also replaced my watch as I just check the time on the screen when I need to know, and it's replaced my alarm clock as I use the built in function.

It's not for everyone, but I can't think how I'd live my life without this thing now! I'd forget to pay all my bills, and never get up in the morning!

My last 100% phone, a Nokia 7110, I bought because it had several organiser like functions. However I found the interface too impractical and thus I decided to go for an organiser phone next.

I think the iPhone is overrated. It has no feature that my 3 year old Treo doesn't have except Wi-Fi. But it is missing to many feature that my Treo has that I like, such as SD card reading, running custom programs, one key access to programs and phone numbers etc, that I would miss. (It doesn't have GPS by the way.) In addition it costs too much. My next phone will probably be a Windows Mobile one, but at this stage I would rather spend the money on Lego!

It is. I really don't no anything about the technology, but I don't need to (nor do I want to). Every single product line of the iPod is wayyyy overrated, so naturally the iPhone follows the trend for no actual intelligent reason. |-/ It's just "The iPod's COOL so the iPhone must be COOL too!!!!1 And If I buy it and use it, blatantly flashing it off to all my friends, I'll be cool too!!!!"'!!'1!!111"

:-P

The linguistics has completely evolved due to this; it's no longer "Do you have an mp3 player?" but "do you have and iPod". 8-|

I have heard that before about the iPod and I really don't understand it. I think Americans are more likely to pick a brand name and turn it in to an action or a generic product. For example, I have heard "hoovering" used to be commonly said. Do you agree?
