Kintobor Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) "So, did you find out more than I could? Captain Caldera was brought here in chains earlier. What exactly happened at the Merry Mermaid? Did you find out if Captain Bullsworth had been stealing the weapon shipments himself? And Commander Fogfarer, why has he been speaking against our family?" "Shume'a, I want hear this..." Annienal could feel the pressure put on her, with Miderun having said nothing. She steps forward and speaks clearly and diplomatically. If there was ever a time for not screwing up and stuttering, it was now. "Oberro, we found out a lot about the three men you told us to investigate. Captain Caldera seemed more than loyal to your house, Oberro, but that seemed to take form in fanaticism. Caldera was responsible for the Baker's Guild bombing, and when we went to the Merry Mermaid the Ji Pei confronted Caldera. I must be honest with you, we assisted the Ji Pei in apprehending Caldera, but that was because it seems Caldera is not only responsible for the Baker's Guild incident, but also beats on his half orcish maid, and has some race issues. We convinced Jun, whose mother apparently lost her legs in the incident, to hand Caldera over to you to deal with. The last thing we as a group wanted was for the Ji Pei to retaliate, and we did not tell them we were working for you. I do not think a man who wishes to actively pursue chaos should be allowed in the Bonapartes', seeing how you are champions of peace keeping, but that is not my place to judge." She had to tell the truth, otherwise what was the point? They had stopped Jun from cutting off Caldera's legs, and causing a bigger incident. "Captain Bullsworth just seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We found out he's going through family troubles at the moment with his two sons apparently getting into mischief, and that it seems someone else was stealing his documents. He is loyal to your house, and was merely being framed." She decided to fib a bit here, if only because she cared about Bullsworth and his two son's wellbeing. She hoped the captain could talk some sense into his boys. "Fogfarer... Fogfarer had been handing over important documents in order to keep his lover safe. The Wolfgang were trading documents he gave them for medicine that he could not otherwise get. He was receiving them from a blonde haired woman who... I don't know, she felt so menacing to be around. She summoned some sort of etherial enemies. It seems Fogfarer has betrayed the Bonapartes, sir." Annienal didn't know why, but she felt she had to tell the truth here. Miderun was more than certain to wring her out if she didn't, and Warlen seemed less than thrilled about the Wolfgang. "And... that is our report, sir. I assume you will have questions, and I am more than ready to answer them." Annienal's breathing became rhythmic as she hoped Oberro would be pleased with her report, but more importantly, she hoped her team would be alright with it. Edited January 4, 2015 by Kintobor Quote

Hooks Caldera openly confessed that he was behind the bombing of the Baker's Guild. It seems overly fanatic to me, too, but there is no denying of the threat the Ji Pei poses to the stability of the Free Islands. The Aoi hold great power in their modern technology, but that power can easily be abused with devastating results. Like I told you in the morning, the Summer Islands have had to suffer from being so close to Xu." "Nature balance disturbs from Aoi flying ships. Birds fly away, fish swim away, beasts run away. Aoi force trade with Huravani, and they want dig our lands for treasure. Rob nature of it's riches. Aoi se'yre shin somo akava." "I have to commend you for convincing the Ji Pei to hand him over to us. It was utterly unexpected of them, and it seems I have you to thank for it. Hooks Caldera will be punished by demoting his rank and confiscating his ship. I am not entirely satisfied that you sided with the Ji Pei so easily, but I guess the end justifies the means." Blackgull seemed to be moderately satisfied with the result. "Captain Bullsworth just seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Blackgull seemed to be wanting more information about the case. The heroes would have to come up with more on the spot if they wanted to satisfy him. "Fogfarer... Collaborating with the Wolfgang, out of all the people... That is a severe crime, no matter what his motivations might have been. I will have to bring Fogfarer in for more interrogating. If he confesses, his death will be swift. I want you to be present to back up your claims." Blackgull sent soldiers to retrieve Meliodoul Fogfarer. He was satisfied with the heroes uncovering the truth about the treacherous elf. Quote

Why did you not bring the thief here? But there's no use going over it. In any case I will no longer use Captain Bullsworth for important deliveries. That should suffice." Blackgull was not satisfied with the heroes performance in this case, but overall he was pleased to get results. Soon, a guard returned with Meliodoul Fogfarer. Two cracked cases out of three was enough for him. "Commodore Bonaparte, what brings me the honor of getting brought in front of you at swordpoint?" The elf then noticed the heroes standing behind Blackgull. "Oh... Of course." "These people brought me information of your treachery. You are accused for exchanging classified information with the Wolfgang for medicines. What do you have to say for yourself, Fogfarer?" "I... I did what I had to. Without the medicine made out of Kalma Dreamsprout, my Alwyn would die in pain. I had to ease his suffering, no matter the cost." "Kalma Dreamsprout is a terrible drug, causing people to hallucinate that they can do anything, like flying or take down a tribe of ravenous Pongcanae single-handedly. People who take it die." "But at least they die happy!" "By your actions, you have sentenced not only yourself but your lover as well. I will see that he is delivered to the care of the Sisters of Danab, but feeding him poisonous herbs will stop." The Moon Elf's eyes flared up. In a whirl of motion, he drove his elbow into the face of the guard behind him, grabbed his sword and put it against Xsenna's throat. He took a deep breath. "...is it what your lover would want?.." The hardness in the Fogfarer's eyes melted. He started to tear up. "I... I am no killer. Blackgull, you must believe that I have acted out of love, not hate. My love for Alwyn is greater than my love for this Fort, and that makes me unworthy to serve. I..." As soon as Fogfarer loosened his grip on her, Xsenna seized him by the arm and began hissing words. "Akava Lunevanne! Lyu hura mar'assa si arya!" The Moon Elf began to howl in pain as his skin turned red and wisps of smoke began rising from it. In seconds the Fogfarer was dead, his blood having boiled from Xsenna's spell. His smoldering remains slumped to the ground "Was that absolutely necessary, Xsenna? He was about to surrender." "Nobody touch princess of Huravani without her will and lives!" Xsenna grunted, rubbing her neck. "I made hura shine inside him, that is more than Lunavanne deserves." "That settles it, then. Poor bastard..." Blackgull turned to the heroes. "I am sorry you had to witness that. My wife has somewhat of a temper, as you can see. I would not have married a lesser woman, though. Your job here is complete. I thank you for your assistance, and should the Bonapartes require more assistance from Heroica in the future, I will know who to turn to." Blackgull rewarded each hero with 300 gold. They would gain increased reputation among the Bonaparte, but the incident at the Merry Mermaid allows them to refuse and gain reputation with the Ji Pei instead. THE QUEST IS SUCCESSFUL! Kintobor Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Annienal looks in bewilderment and shock as Fogfarer erupts in front of them. She eventually turns away, biting her lip. As she looks back she tries to avoid contact with the corpse smouldering on the floor, as well as Oberro's wife. "Th-thank you, Oberro. I'm glad to be of service." Annienal shakes Oberro's hand, accepting the reputation. She makes her way out of the room, and hopefully out of the building. She'd seen a lot today, and she wanted to sit somewhere to think her thoughts through with her leather bound book. Thanks for the quest, Sandy! I had a lot of fun, and I'm thankful you chose me to come along. I've got some stuff to say in the QM Quote
CMP Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Miderun blinks at Fogfarer, watching him die with a hint of disgust, glancing at her own arm uncomfortably before nodding to her Obero. "Ash dir tiro lan Vohl tan dir maro. I am glad to have helped such a worthy cause." She then looked over at her partymates appreciatively. "Good to quest with you both. I am of course not so good with problems you can't just kill. But I think everything turned out for the best. I have one last thing to do before turning to the Hall, but I will see you there." Miderun left Fort Bonaparte, bound for Caldera's home. If he was still at the fort in chains that'd make things easier. Hopefully that maid was still there. AI'd like the Ji Pei reputation. When Miderun knocked on the door of Caldera's house, the same orcish maid opened it up, looking like she had been woken up. "My apologies, but do you know what hour...Oh, it is you. "If you're really seriously giving me all this gold, then I thank you. This should be enough for me to get onto a ship and find a safe caravan to travel the rest of the way. Gosh, I can hardly believe this... I mean, what will I even wear?!" The maid almost slammed the door in Miderun's face, but then realized something. "Oh, I didn't even tell you my name! I am Trista. "By Neredice's tits, Nemo! Look at you, walking around in breeches at broad daylight!" "Did you call me to give me fashion tips, or did you have an actual point?" "I wanted to inform you that Meliodoul Fogfarer was revealed to have betrayed us. He sold information to the Wolfgang. He is dead now, but..." "If he is dead, then why bother me with it?" "You are still the Warden of the Crystalline Sea, nephew. And I know how much the Fogfarer meant to you when you were a child." "Everyone dies eventually, there's nothing I can do about it." "Then why are you moping about it like some bitter dowager? Are you a man or a ship rat?!" "I don't have to listen to that! Not even from you, uncle." Nemo turned to leave. "I will stay here for as long as it takes for you to start listening, Nemo!" Blackgull shouted after him. Quote
