March 11, 20159 yr I really like DrJoseph's roof conversion mod. It preserves the look of the building while solving the height disparity issue - and even manages to look like the sort of addition that would be made to a real building- rather than a total rebuild or change of the original structure. Anyone else get the feeling they're suffering from 'double vision' when looking at some of the 2-set mods? :) Edited March 11, 20159 yr by Missing Brick
May 24, 20159 yr These are just very quick teaser-style shots. And I apologize for the horrible quality. My iPhone was probably not developed with Lego photos in mind. But all in all, a double-DO fits the modular street quite nicely. I do hope, however, that we get a larger building in 2016. When I complete the double-DO, I'll take better shots and I'll show you the meth lab with some gangstas hanging outside the lab in the hallway as well.
May 24, 20159 yr Finally got myself one of these the other day. Great set and great parts pack, definatly the best set of 2015 so far (only things I know of that might top this would be Ideas sets)
May 26, 20159 yr I really like DrJoseph's roof conversion mod. It preserves the look of the building while solving the height disparity issue I think the difference in height between buildings adds interest to the streetscape. The 'stepped' masonry, brown, blue mod earlier takes this to another level as well. Although I agree if you are after a more European look then equal heights and a sharply angled (as opposed to flat) roofline would be more desirable. Edited May 26, 20159 yr by dr_sarcophagus
May 27, 20159 yr How long does this stay exclusive to Lego for? I'm wondering when it will hit Toy's R Us or Amazon (I'm in the UK) as I have vouchers to use up!
May 29, 20159 yr I think Nacho means "sold only through the Lego site and LEgo shops". It can sometimes take a while before other stores like TRU or Amazon get new sets, in some countries.
May 29, 20159 yr In Australia Myer will have it locally in two weeks. About 6 months after release. I am going to buy 3 . Two for the building and 1 for parts. They will have free extended lay-by as well so its a good time to buy.
July 6, 20159 yr My more complete version... and it is swappable like the PS. I used 2xDO's for parts. It's not finished, but it's enough to display in public at the moment: the album is here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskf39kk5
July 6, 20159 yr That looks great...and it gives a lot more playability in making a setup from ones modulars....!!!
July 6, 20159 yr I have to agree, I like it a lot, too, especially the blue half. On the Detectiv'e Office, I would've stuck to the original window configuration, since I find the 4-wide wall inbetween the two windows a bit off putting. ...Man, I'm so itchy to start on my own mod & accompanying MOC. I have all the pieces here, but just can't seem to find the time to get going right now. Though I have to say, I wouldn't spend a lot of time hunched over Lego building in the current heat wave we have here anyway, even if I had the time.
July 13, 20159 yr Like others I bought two DOs. I wanted the Highlander to be a pub with a bar. This is what I came up with. Access to the Detective's Office and apartment on the first floor is down the alleyway. The Highlander has a bar, toilet, a few tables, pool table, and darts area. The upstairs interior is still a work in progress. I've only been using parts from the two sets, no extras. Al is working at the ticket counter in the Palace Cinema. August 6, 20159 yr So, I finally started rebuilding my modular sets now that I have set up my basement hobby room. The Detective's Office in between the pet shop and the town house bookended by the Perisian Restaurant and the Palace Theater. The DO really does need the roof addition to make it taller. August 6, 20159 yr Do most people here live in towns where the buildings are all uniform height? Or is it just something you like aesthetically in your Lego street? That's one of the most common complaints I see about the DO, and I guess I just don't understand. Of course, where I live, the buildings are of varied height, and you can find a two-story building connected to a three- or four-story building easily.

Are those buildings priced the same on the market in real life too? ;)

My complaint isn't that the DO is a different height, it's that it's small. Had it been that much taller than the rest I wouldn't be complaining.
August 6, 20159 yr It seems almost everyone displays DO right next to the PS, so then you get Al's Pets in every town..I don't understand. Why? I wouldn't have two blue buildings next to each other. Maybe switch the Townhome and the Pet shop... that bothers me more than the height difference.. Yes, it does seem small. I will probably get the DO this Christmas, but I have plans to modify it for sure.

Currently, I have my Chinese restaurant MOC, which I'll share here when I'm moved into my new place (probably--although nobody seems to like two-story buildings, and my restaurant/tea shop is one of them!), next to Al's, so the lettering doesn't run together. I guess I understand more about the height difference. I've just seen more mods that have made it the same height as everything else. But I suppose if you upscale your other modulars, a two-story building could be seen as too small. Works just fine for my town, though. Edited August 6, 20159 yr by Mariko
