As already said, an amazing set with lots of fantastic details and NPU throughout. Looking forward to this!

Btw. I've already engaged Mr Ace Brickman, P.I. for his first case. As an advance he may choose any ride he likes, I'd even build a new one for him.

There are some good parts and NPUs. Looks like they're using the CMF Indian feather for darts?

Yeah, a toilet. Finally a place to go after that long toilet discussion thread on EB.

I think it is easy enough to make it more adult by replacing candy with boozes if you find the set too kiddie.

A couple of the City sets have toilets next year too. 2015 is the year of the toilet.

Overall a very nice set, but I really don't like the fact that every time you build a wall with some special element in it, it will always be in some strange, way off, colour. Here, a blue wall just can't possibly have blue modified bricks. We're apparently not bright enough to differentiate it from the normal bricks were they all using the same colours. So is it supposed to be for adults, 16+ or not? It really looks bad on the building:/

New 1x2 bricks in light blue. What colour does this refer to? The light royal blue used for 16x16 plates in eg. City Park Café?

The window frames of the barbershop also seem to be of this colour, right?

Do you have a source for this information?... What an awful set of generalisations.

Your comments almost across as borderline elitist; it doesn't match your own expectations, therefore, everyone else must feel the same way as you.

Don't worry about it. It's just his opinion, which he of course is entitled to. The only annoying thing here is that he keeps repeating it like a parrot over and over again.

Parrot, eh? Well, fair enough. But, I must say its fun being part of the flock. Just different parrots parroting awesome opinions over and over and over.......

Off the wall is never satisfied with anything LEGO does, maybe he needs a new hobby. I love the city line and the lack of buildings is really disappointing but after some thought building my own mocs will be fun.

I'm sorry if one opinion is upsetting so many of you. I'll make this my last post on this matter so that you aren't made uncomfortable by any diversity of opinion. Probably a good thing to do since the parrot card has been played, my opinion has been misrepresented by others as a statement of fact and my record of reviewing lego, while largely unknown, has been misrepresented.

I'll be at the lego event in Alpharetta, GA tomorrow and will be happy to autograph your copies of the PR.

Im excited - love the era/theme. Also, the minfig wanted poster is hilarious..

Isn't it? The suspect is 44mm tall and weighs 3.4g!

Why is the guy in the hat wanted? He seems like a nice dude.

Maybe some kind of counterfeit cookie operation?

Yes, I think he's one of the cookie bakers/candy makers.

If it's supposed to be set in the US, the wanted poster shouldn't list the suspect's details in metric units. Also, if it's supposed to be during the Prohibition era (1920s to early 1930s), it's very unlikely that the police officer would be a woman. TLG isn't trying to be politically "correct", is it?

Does anyone know why all the minifigs have the classic smiley face instead of different face printing? The designer doesn't say in the video why TLG chose to do that.

I personally like the use of the smiley faces. It gives the set a classic retro feel.

This is one of the only things that bothers me about the Expert line. Given the cost of the sets and all the work they put into it, why not provide a few different facial expressions on the minifigs?

Great set, a little colorful by Expert standards but I can't resist this one. The new dartboard is great, I've been waiting for one that wasn't a sticker.

Once again Jamie and the Creator/Modular team do not disappoint! I will definately but my usual 2 copies of this set!

There is just so much to like, the colors, interesting parts usage and the build.

What is in those cookies, I wonder?

Seeing how they are worth at least a 100 dollars, you are asking the right questions.

There is a future for you with Ace Brickman's Detective Office.

That is a pretty bold counterfeit or smuggling operation seeing how there is a detective office right next door.

That or Ace must be hilariously incompetent.

I am not really into those modular buildings line, coz they are really overwhelming for whole city (if you build some mini city)... And every city looks the same with them.

But this 1 seems really nice. Will consider buying it and rebuild it a bit.

For what it's worth, I agree in large part with your assessment of the building, but the age- and gender-based insults that come with it are unnecessary and obscure your point.

To me it's mainly that the upper two floors of the blue building that seem a little odd--are they part of the Barber Shop? But the door to the detective's opens onto the toilet and stairwell. So the upstairs is a studio that the man in the red ballcap has rented out to make his secret cookie den?

I only saw one post upset with you. (Well maybe 2) While I may differ from some of your opinions, they are yours.

I like the fact that Lego added the gambling aspect to the pool hall.

This set looks fantastic, but I don't like the way they did the P in POOL. :sceptic:

@ Off the wall: The modular line has been taken away from AFOLs and given to rich kids who need TLG to be a substitute for their own imagination

This line sounds more like you need TLG to be a substitute for your own imagination. What kid, be they rich, poor, somewhere in the middle, has the money to use a site like bricklink to make a building like this? The may have the imagination to build it, but not the parts, unless they start taking apart the sets they have bought to make this. Then the other sets are in complete. And as for their own imaginations, these toys are designed by adults, whose cognitive abilities are at a more advanced level than a kids. But really, It's a toy. Your original opinion isn't the problem, you are entitled to that, it's that you keep posting it over and over. The people in this topic don't seem to share your opinion about the Modular line. Move on. Start your own post about the suck that is now the modular line and like minded individuals can flock to that post.

I'm glad the focus is going back to a more kid friendly design. I hate the toy lines that start out as kids toys and as the older crowd starts to take an interest in it, the line slowly becomes less playable, and more of a "let's not take it out of the box and diminish it's value" collectors item. Toys are meant to be played with, comics are meant to be read, music is meant to be heard, movies are meant to be watched, art is meant to be seen.

Well said, sir! :)

Seeing how they are worth at least a 100 dollars, you are asking the right questions.

Haha, yup! :)

I made it to the two minute mark in the video and then turned it off.

Some one who's tight with designer needs to tell him to stay away from my granddaughters doll house.

I think you are reading too much into the great cookie caper. It's a clever wink and nudge way of getting around certain policies that would otherwise prevent them from doing a U.S. prohibition era scene and building, in a mix of film noir and the untouchables. If it makes you feel better mentally reverse the flow through that hatch in the barber shop. Instead of cookies coming down from the kitchen, bodies go up and pies come down, through the pool hall and into the fancy restaurant. Remember Lego is all about your imagination. No matter how disturbing. Besides it would let you put one of your excess Johnny Depp Minifigs to use.

Isn't it more that Lego's trying to evoke a certain old-time feel? It's not trying to be historically accurate, unless people really did think cookie smuggling was once a big problem in the US and elsewhere. As for the female police officer, I was quite happy to see that. Why not mix it up a little?

Does anyone know why all the minifigs have the classic smiley face instead of different face printing? The designer doesn't say in the video why TLG chose to do that.

I rather like that too—it harks back to classic Lego days; also, I guess you can easily enough put whatever emotion you want into such 'generic' expressions during play as a kid, rather than being clearly guided towards "this one's really angry" or something.

As for the set, I think it looks great from a play angle for kids, but less exciting from a display standpoint. On the whole, though, it's good to see Lego trying something different, and there are some interesting ideas in the set.

This is getting ridiculous. OTW may be guilty of crying something sour repeatedly, but other members are just as guilty for suggesting opposing opinions should just leave the forum or even the hobby. This is a place where we are not a singular group think. There is such a thing as a nay opinion. I disagree with him on the sentiment that the modular line is moving away from adults but I do agree with him that the dollhousification of the modular line seems rather unnecessary compared to what the product line originally started off as.

And no, the modular line appeared to be intended for AFOLs as an alternative to LEGO City as suggested by the price point, expert focus and age suggestion. I would assure you the majority of the modular fandom is working adults but that would be an extrapolation based on anecdotal evidence. But it is still kid friendly. And it is still adult friendly. We all need to stop being so hostile over a toy.

And definitely stop telling people they don't belong just because they have a opposing opinion.
