Yep great improvement by adding that extra level. What bricks are used for the exterior walls ?

I used 1 x 2 dark tan masonry bricks for the main facade and then regular 1 x 1 and 1 x 2 dark tan bricks as well as dark tan and light bluish gray masonry bricks for the rest of the walls.

Would someone with both the DO and the Pet Shop please take a picture of the sets connected in this order, from left to right: DO, PS Pet Shop, PS apartment? Thanks in advance!

No problem,

That's exactly how I have mine laid out. Looks just fine I think.

Those people moaning about the size of it - did they not look at the pictures before buying it?

Cheers

Nice job, your photo of the 3 level DO side, making it the taller of the two is much better composition of the DO set, to me. I want to do the same now! haha...

What color is the top level? It looks like the dark tan color? Instead of the med. dark flesh color used on the original? Or is the photo causing the difference?

Thanks!, Yeah the top level of the DO is dark tan as I wanted more of a contrast from the other levels.

I picked up mine last night, looking forward to the start of a busy weekend ;)

They're temporarily sold out online in US, but local Lego stores have plenty. Ironically what they had trouble with last night was PAB Wall, with several empty slots.

But they did have 'basic' 2x4 bricks in a new shade of blue.

Eurotrash, Looks like a new business in your picture "Al's Pets" for all your pet grooming needs! Also displayed mine in that fashion. So the street now goes:

PC, GG, FB, TH, DO, PS (Store-Apartment) and finally GE. I have the PR and will have it start a new street along with my modified HH which is now a Victorian style house that sells

antiques, the furnishings from HH work great in this regards. Do like the DO as is and not going to modified it at this point. I think the small stature breaks up the street a little and gives

it more character. I display them for the most part so "play" is not that important and prefer style and details more!

Yeah I was joking on Flickr that you could combine the two buildings into one and make PETALS (a flower shop) or STAPLES (an office supply company).

I don't think anyone is 'moaning". Just stating opinions and preferences. The crtiques started when the first images were released. I bought it because I collect modulars and can modify it as I see fit, not because I'm wild about the design and size. It's not like I opened the box and was suddenly surprised by what I saw. I knew what I was buying, warts and all. Some just have a more critical eye or different tastes. Not everything TLG does is 'awesome'. Those who like the DO 'as is' shouldn't need their opinion validated by others. If you like the DO as is, great. Enjoy it. For some of us, the fun will be creating exactly what we want out of the basis that was provided by the Lego designer.

I've gone to a two story 32 wide pool hall. The first floor has two pool tables, the second floor will have a bar and dart boards. The third floor of the building will be the detectives office along with his residence. I'm using two sets.

I'd love to see a photo of this, as it's exactly what I'd like to do. Are you using only the pieces included in two sets, or some few pieces beyond that?

I'm really not sure where this will wind up. I've bought three sets for this. Looks like I can do the pool hall/game emporium on a 32 plate with three floors. I'm using a lot of the yellowish bricks that I have left over from my GE expansion. I'll probably do another 32 wide with the detectives office and a barber shop. Still don't plan on using any blue bricks. This is definitely a work in progress. I am adding a few pieces from the storage bin as I go. I'll be glad to send you a pic when I get a little farther along.

Quick mod idea: Does the top floor of PS (Pet Shop half) fit on the first floor of the DO (DO side, obviously)?

Of course, the barber side would be roofless then, but what the hell...

Ordered my 1st DO 3 days ago as well, and order status is still "in warehouse".

Would this be an OOS item already. I suspect LEGO should have had plenty of stock of the DO.

Just got an email mentioned the DO shipped out. Took a little bit longer than previous shipments.

Thanks for the pics! Would you be able to take a pic or two next to other modulars for comparison?

My cats have ruined my layout (true) so i 'm in the process or rebuilding, will post once done :classic:

Funny, I just finished mine. (Expanded DO with extra floor) I kept Ace Brickman's office on the second floor. I also put a second printed window on the back so I could use the clear window on the top floor. I also didn't include the paint roller lights on the top floor, I put in those technic pieces that become a stud and built a little something off it. ((a 6 sted piece fits across the two holes where the lights were.)
