"Al's cuts" has already been misread by several people so it's safer to go with "hair " ;)

Haha.. yeah, i know about that.. That was also why i have two seats in the barbershop... and thus two people cutting hair... Al himself and Al's ..uh..wife...!

Could just call it SNIPS or CLIPS...

Dan... i think that this is a pretty good idea... i hadn't thought of it myself... thanks, i'll try it out tonight!!

I'll use that if i can't work out 'Al's Hair'....

I think you should try it whit cheese slopes!

The width of the blue building is not that appealing. Take out the 'alley' and expand it? I took two DO sets and several hundred parts left over from GE and expanded the pool hall to 32 wide and three stories.

This is what I'd like to see - the Highlander / Ace's office expanded without (in my opinion) the horrible blue building.

I want to buy the DO but going to wait for it to arrive in retail here in Australia, and at a 20% off sale, as I can't imagine using any of the blue bricks. I imagine they won't arrive over here until June.

I suppose I really needed to get motivated and get a picture hosting service.

Please open a Flickr account. I am really interested in seeing your modular mods. Edited by SeanJFry

Go for a lower-case "r".

Dan-147

I followed your idea, and just made a lower-case 'r' and i think it worked out pretty well.. .it is recognizable as an 'R' and fits in very good as well! Here a picture of how i ended up! 16082468478_bf7c180e03.jpg16083879329_c2c125f115.jpg I'll post some real good pictures when i finished the whole building...;-)

Could just call it SNIPS or CLIPS...

I did Dan's solution.. it was simple and effective..and it fit perfect! But now i do have a problem with the emergencyladder.. as the darkbrown 'building', or hallway is widened with six studs to the left..the ladder should be positioned through the roof of the Pool hall....hmm... we'll see tonight... !

I think you should try it whit cheese slopes!

This could have done the job too...

Here's a picture of my modified DO in line with some of the other modular sets in my city. Not sure if I want to keep the dark tan masonry brick or switch to the flesh tone one.

Nice layout, Azmodia. I think you should switch one of the two floors. Looks odd to me with two tones.

Is your Green Grocer haunted? Looks like some ghosts are behind the windows...

Haha, why yes it is, good eye. As for the DO, I'm still on the fence on what to do about the extra floor. Don't want to make it too uniform but also want a contrast in colors.

Here someprogress after 3 days of modifying..i put an extra row of flesh brick-bricks underneath the windows on the front of the DO. What do you think of that.. ? The light grey row of curved bricks between the second and the third floor will be removed.....not happy with this light grey addition..... 16091180907_8781511d72_n.jpg . . i also made a balcony on the backside of the detective's office..with two inside opening doors.. 15657167373_419f991c7e_n.jpg

TLG's response to a review on Lego.com. I offer it without comment for your review. Oh, I have a lot to say, but.......

I am sorry the Detective's Office did not meet the expectations that the modular series has set for you. I am glad to hear that the interior detail was exceptional but that the color scheme did not appeal.

While the storyline might not necessarily appeal to every builder a story has existed with every set as it is these stories that drive the designers to create them. Like the designers, builders can create their own stories to complement each of their sets.

What a load of baloney. Maybe the next modular should be a meat market then I can buy it.

True...everyone can have his own story and enjoy. You can exchange the cookies with Rum or drugs and make the story even more hotter ;-)

Barrels of toxic waste and a Detective's Office populated by mutants would be a fun one.

My LEGO Walter White could probably manufacture plenty of Blue Sky in that kitchenette, accessibility (lack of stairwells leading to it) be darned.

Which minifigure did you use? Or do you have one of the official Citizen Brick ones?

Really like some of the expansions that have been posted.

LegoSjaak, yours looks really promising now, only thing I don't wuite like is that the brown 'building' grows out over onto the pool hall. Not sure wether that's realistic at all, at least in cities in Europe or North America.

How wide is your version, btw? Looks like 56 studs?

BirdOPrey5, your version with just an extra floor also does wonders. While the blue building still is narrow, the set as a whole suddenly looks a lot less out of scale than normally.

Roger, my version is indeed 56 studs.. I can imagine you do not like the brown building, growing over the pool hall, but when you would see it in real bricks, it really gives the building a lot of depth.. when you see it, it seems that there is another building in the background...and it intends that there are 3 buildings.. Yesterday i finished the roofing.. it is not ready, have to do some work on the backside and the interior.. but here is an update... 16096751058_212fa962af.jpg16098151299_133039d4a7.jpg

That's amazing LegoSjaak. How many DO's did you need?

I used only two Do's.....here and there i took a few spare parts....it turned out pretty okay to me.. now i have to do some work on detailing and interior of the first and second floor....

LegoSjaak, good job.

I like your version of the DO!!!

That is really good looking, 'LegoSjaak'. Good job! Can't wait to see the interiors!

Thanks, i'll post some good pictures when i finished the whole building!

AWESOME modifications or combinations there 'LegoSjaak'.......I really like the expanding of the pool bar into more like a bar/pub.....I hope to see a just as cool interior ?

Brick On 'LegoSjaak' !

Thanks LT, what do you think about making the darkbrown 'Building' in the back 3 bricks higer than the BBB (Blue Barber Building).... It would give somewhat more contrast.....or, that is what i would like to achieve with it.. Maybe i should just try, and see...
