Alasdair Ryan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) I wanted to give LDCad a go today, but after installing the newest version and locating the ldraw file I just got a load of incomplete part primitives. I tried tweaking the part bin load dir too with no luck. Edited August 25, 2015 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Philo Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 According to your screen shot, your ldraw library is located in C:\Program Files(x86)\LDCad\ldraw. In this place you should then find a 'parts' folder (with parts), itself containing a 's' folder (with subparts). It should also have a 'p' folder containing the primitives, itself containing a '48' folder with high res. primitives. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) Yes,correct they are all there in that dictionary in the cosponsoring folders. Here is a screen shot of me trying to load a basic part. Edited August 25, 2015 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Zimix Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Do you have a windows system variable LDRAWDIR defined ? and pointing to the same directory C:\Program Files(x86)\LDCad\ldraw or does it point somewhere else ? Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I have it defined to the same directory,is there any chance of it being a problem relating to windows 10? Quote

legolijntje Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 I can't see any real difference, except that my parts library is located a little different than yours. That shouldn't matter though. Still, you could try to move the parts library out of LDCad's own folder, maybe there's a bug Have you tried running LDCad as administrator? Quote

If the folder pointer to contains the parts and p and folders which in turn hold 1000's of .dat's all should indeed be ok, unless there are some weird user read rights active. Have you tried putting the complete.zip contents in e.g. my documents instead? Could you send me the contents of the "%appdata%\LDCad\logs" folder as those files should shine some light on what's going on during loading. An alternative could be using the new 1.5 alpha version so you could try using complete.zip without having to unpacking it. Quote

There seems to be some interesting stuff going on in these logs which may explain the problem. 00057 | 2015-08-25_18:07:29 | Progress | LDraw manager initialization | Loading color definition files. roland Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 The font messages are normal but it seems it can only load a handfull of files from the LDraw library. I think you might have a old/wrong library installed maybe even just a patch as all part that do load seem to be of 2005. You can check by looking at the amount of files in the parts folder, there should be about 11.000 of them. The correct library zip is here: http://www.ldraw.org/download/get/complete/88.html Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 The library came with your latest version, but I will try adding the newest Ldraw library. Quote
roland Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I don't pack the library with the LDCad setup, it must always be installed separately (unless you used the LDraw AIOI?) Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Fixed It was the library due to the library being installed,I did try the AlOI version and the same thing happened. You should pack the Ldraw library and just give a option of installing/updating it,SR3D came with its own parts. Quote

I don't pack the library because it changes now and then, it is also shared between all the LDraw tools you might use on your pc. You can however resize the program window it self to span multiple monitors but it probably only works if it's a single (dual head) graphics card and not two different ones. I do hope to add multiple main window support at some point though. Quote
barnylego Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Thanks for your reply.I will have to wait for an update as my graphics card will not support your suggestion.--Great program! Quote
roland Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I've release 1.5 Beta 1, It features a LDraw source window and many many improvements. See also http://forums.ldraw.org/read.php?11,17514,17514#msg-17514 As always I'm open to all feedback/questions/suggestions. Quote
nickless Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I'm getting this really strange bug in LDCad 1.5 Beta 1: It seems to be affecting one .ldr model file that I'm using as a sub-model. Whenever I edit that file, a few seconds later I'm getting a message that this file has been changed and LDCad is asking me to reload it. When I do, random parts are missing. So far, it seems to be affecting only one simple file, but I'm kind of scared this bug might affect other, more complex files in the future. System: LDCad 1.5 Beta 1, clean install in an empty folder Windows 10 Quote
roland Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Did you save it yourself just before? Or is it using some special (virtual) file location? Could you send me the logs folder content (please be sure it happened in the last three program sessions) so I can check what it's doing as a result of an (unrelated) external change. Quote
nickless Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 The file was saved by hand in the same subfolder as all my other submodels. Right now I can't give you the log files because for no apparent reason, everything works the way it is supposed to... I hope it stays that way, but I will keep an eye on it. Quote
nickless Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) What happened to ldraw.org? Anyway, I found another bug that is making LDCad crash: When you hover the top of the part bin and press the keys 1 to 6, LDCad is switching to the respective tab in the part bin view the it's supposed to. However, if you press 7, 8 or 9, the program crashes. This happens easily if you want to enter a filter text and don't quite hit the right input area (and especially if you haven't saved your model for some time...). /edit: Do you think an autosave function would be a good thing? Something that saves the model every x minutes or even after every edit? Edited October 15, 2015 by nickless Quote

This happens easily if you want to enter a filter text and don't quite hit the right input area (and especially if you haven't saved your model for some time...).This is the result of a dropped feature I was considering (variable view count), I'll fix it for the next one. Thanks for reporting.Do you think an autosave function would be a good thing? Something that saves the model every x minutes or even after every edit? This was actually planned as a minor feature for Beta 2 but I'm knee deep in a couple of stability issues at the moment, so maybe beta 3 :) Quote
nickless Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Thanks! I did have problems with files not being saved today again as well. When I look at the logs, this is what I can find concerning the submodel in question: 08225 | 2015-10-15_20:07:36 | Progress | LDraw file save | C:\LDraw\Model\subs\~Achse_H_LS_S.ldr | Starting 08226 | 2015-10-15_20:07:36 | Progress | LDraw file save | C:\LDraw\Model\subs\~Achse_H_LS_S.ldr | Shadow content has changes, saving to "" 08227 | 2015-10-15_20:07:36 | Error | LDraw file save | C:\LDraw\Model\subs\~Achse_H_LS_S.ldr | Could not open or write to file. 08228 | 2015-10-15_20:07:36 | Progress | LDraw file save | C:\LDraw\Model\subs\~Achse_H_LS_S.ldr | Done I can't think of any reason why LDCad can't write to that file. I checked if it's write-protected (it's not) and Windows is showing the 'date modified' at the time LDCad was supposed to save the file. Quote
