Would it be possible to optionally turn off camera-relative rotation, though? LDD used to have absolute rotation, and I hated it when they changed to relative.
In prefs/editor there are options for this, but a minor bug prevents turning it individually on/off. This will be fixed in beta 2 though.
I remember that when I started using LDCad for the first time, it wasn't turned on by default. Again, in the view menu, make sure that it has a green "PS" instead of a read "GS". And, again, this is also personal preference
Part snapping is disabled by default as I consider it a guidance tool, also not all parts have the needed extra info so usage can be confusing for new users if they have zero experience working with grids first.
Roland, I think there may be a bug with the escape key. According to the hotkey list, pressing it should deselect any current selection. However, that doesn't seem to work. Ctrl+Shift+a works to deselect, but that's a lot more awkward to use. I'm used to just hitting "esc" to deselect parts.
I can't replicate this are you sure the mouse cursor was inside the editing area when you pressed esc ?
I see your descriptions of UI items at the bottom of the page as I mouse over them. Would it be possible to also put those descriptions in tooltips?
This is planned for a future version. The hint in status bar thing was intially to lighting the rendering work but this is less and less a problem on modern graphics hardware.

If by editing area you mean the area with the parts, yes, my mouse is in that area. My mouse can even be directly over a selected part, and pressing esc has no effect.

sorry for butting in, im kind in a hurry. could anybody tell me if how to select multiple parts like drag selection or like LDDs option to select all part that are touching eachother ?

I just made a big cannon in a vertical position and i just realized i have no way of rotating its entire barrel on its pivot point because of all the parts involved D:

thanks you

At the moment, LDCad is missing area selection and connected selection. You have to control+click on all parts you want to select (if by chance you simply want to select everything, ctrl+A works...). Otherwise, it may be easier to make the selection in a source window (requires LDCad 1.5 beta)

In the source window you can select several parts (click then ctrl+click) or range of parts (click then shift click) even if they are hidden by other bricks.

What os are you using? Anyone else having this problem?

Like Philo wrote at the moment you use hold down ctrl to extend the seclection and or use the source window to reach obstructed things etc. I do have a selection rectangle planned for 1.6 though.

Please note that clip is from one of the earliest Alpha versions I will make a better clip using the current version to really demonstrate the current state of things once 1.5 is definitive. Things to know: open a source window from the view menu, dock the window by pressing ctrl when roughly at the place you want it to be.

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro.
Are you running photoshop in the background? As a quick search led me to an known issue with it on windows 8.1 it seems to be 'stealing' the esc key event for some reason. Edited by roland

Hi there, I'm new to digital building. After reading over various topics over internet, installation, configuration and tweaking I have LDCad working fine (with bunch of other software) on my Linux OS machine. I seem to have installed the latest beta version which is running fine and helps me to progress. However I managed to break single feature on first launch and unable to get it back - both Color and Part bins are detached (and randomly placed on next launch) and I didn't find a way to attach them back. One of the YouTube videos posted in this thread shows it is easily fixed on Windows machine. However nothing even close happens in Linux. Switching "Locked docked windows" between Yes and No gives no result.

I wonder if this is a bug or there is way to fix it?

You can redock them by dragging the part bin to the left and while still holding down the left mouse button press the ctrl key to dock it. Next do the same with the color bin window but drop it on the top of the part bin window.

The 'lock docked windows option' is there only to prevent accidental undocking like you probably experienced here.

You can also reset all configuration to the defaults by deleting the main.cfg file located in the config folder. The config folder will be located in the same place the executable is or If you used the linux setup script it will be in your home folder.

Robert, appreciate your quick response! Thanks for advise, I was able to dock those windows back.

On another note, I wonder if it is known how large is the number of Linux users?

The Linux / windows version is downloaded at about a 1 to 4 ratio but but I have no clue on how many of them go on using it regularly.

Having some issues copy/pasting with this new version.

Every time I paste, I lose at least one brick.

Even starting a new model, adding just one brick, copy/pasting that one brick, It disappears.

Is throws up a 'Missing LDraw file dependencies for the current model' error.

Any idea as to what's going on?

Ah, noticed in the image, it's not using the full file-name, the 't' is missing from the end of 3024.da.

Thanks.

It seems I broke the lines split function while fixing another issue. This caused the last character of the last line to be omited. It's fixiable by using the part dialog for the missing part and correcting the .da into .dat by hand. You could also prevent using paste by using ctrl+d or ins if you copying things withing the model it self.

I might make beta 2a for this though. Thanks for reporting.

When I load one of these 2 files made by Darats (set 5521), LDCad crashes. Do you maybe have any idea why?

I'm using 1.5 beta 1b though, so not the newest version.

Both models work for me in beta 2a and beta 1, it might be caused by a different version of some part file. Are you using the latest 1501 LDraw library? Or have you configured LDCad in some special way? In that case try loading the models after resetting the configuration but keep the original main.cfg handy so you can mail it to me if it does work with default settings. That way I can investigate the differences etc.

Yup, there were some problems with the parts. There were 2 parts that were outdated and a few I didn't have (stickers). I've updated everything and it loads fine now. :classic:

Still, I think it would be better to load the model with a warning instead of just completely crashing when there's a problem with the parts.

Yes, I would like to know the root cause of this in order to fix it for the definite 1.5 version. Could you mail me the problem parts and other related things needed to get it crashing.

Well, I'd like to, but to be honest, I don't have much information...

I viewed the model in LDview and one of the stickers was looking weird (aside from missing a few stickers). So, Darats (the file author) said I probably had an older version of one of the stickers. I realized I didn't had the newest parts library and hadn't updated the unofficial files in a while. So to solve both the wrong and the missing stickers, I just updated everything at once. It also solved LDCad's problem, but that was completely 'unintentional'. I planned to take a better look at that after fixing the stickers. I wasn't expecting to fix LDCad by just updating a few parts

So, I can't tell you a lot more than that :sceptic: It's highly likely though, that one of the (missing) stickers was the problem. The other parts are all very general parts and have probably been in the official library for a while now. In LDview, the only problems I had (before upgrading the parts) were stickers.
