Disco86 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) Here is my entry to the Catgeroy B of the Men's Quest. Figures are edited with photoshop to make them look like Drow, unedited picture could be seen at the end of the post for judging purposes. The elves try to find a diplomatic solution, to avoid a war between the dwarves and the drow. Even if the drow hate elves, they hate every other race even more. Because of that, the Avalonian decided, to send out the elves for this diplomatic job. Etherendil and her company are reaching the drow's keep after traversing a huge system of underground tunnels. Greetings, friendly relatives ! We are coming from the lands of Avalonia and want to discuss some diplomatic issues with the king. The king awaits you. But weapons are not allowed within the throne room. That's a trap for sure, you malicious drow ! Calm down, I am sure it is just for the best of all, so lay down your arms. After putting down their weapons onto a shelf, they entered the room through a large ebony gate. Greetings intruders, what leads you to my forgotten realm ? The Avalonians sent us, to bring you this message of peace. We are offering you some vantages if you keep friendly and peaceful the next month, whatever is gonna happen. Oh, getting an offer always sounds like something we are interested in. But giving you something in return does not seem plausible to me. A diplomatic solution is always something valuable for all parts. Think about living in peace for a long time. Peace you say ? Diplomacy you say ? I am the almighty king of the drow, and this is DROW DIPLOMACY !!! Uuuaaaargh ! You... Guards, attend those intruders ! Die you pale scum ! But you are doing a huge mis---- The unarmed elves fell like autumn leaves, and their imortal blood was covering the floor. I am sure, they have learned their lesson about the drow this time... Unedited version for judging: Hope you enjoy it, and good luck to all particpants of this Challenge ! Edited January 13, 2015 by Disco86 Quote
Tomsche Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Fantastic lightning effect, great build Quote
Wat Tambor Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Great to see that you have joined the Guilds of Historica! This creation is fantastic, I really love the illuminated mosaic, it adds a lot of atmosphere to the scene. Quote
Rolli Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Great seeing you here, Paul! Fantastic lighting there along with a stunning little vignette. I really like the colour scheme, and even though this thing is rather small, its probably one of my favourite mocs of yours. I'm not a huge fan of customising or editing figs but I'm on your side with this one. The simple desaturation works great here. Looking forward to your future GoH mocs! Quote
mccoyed Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Awesome build. Very definitive for Drow, too, more closely based on the Forgotten Realms version (which originated drow I think) than any other builds on GoH I think. Quote
Infernum Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Awesome, creepy atmosphere! Love the spikes and chains on the walls, and that throne is perfect! That border is great too! Sorry to see the elves killed, but I guess that's what they get for entering unarmed. Quote
kabel Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 This is very great and I too think it's great you have finally joined this project. Guess we Germans have been a little underrepresented here amongst all those Dutch, Swedes and Americans ... Anway, I think you photoshop effects are just playing with light and are not destroying the build. So personally I'm okay with it. I also change the lighting of mocs and I know most people do. But of course it's the mods who've got a last saying on this. Quote
MassEditor Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Gorgeous build... why didn't you join Nocturnus?! Great lighting, and I agree with the others about the photoshopping - the desat was done very well and non-intrusively. Bad day for the elves indeed! Quote
Yzalirk Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Very beautiful build, I really like it! The lighting is also gorgeous, any tips for using lighting like that? Quote
Slegengr Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Great build and photos, Disco! I normally would say no to photoshopping, but I think what you did here is fitting and well done, except for how much the Drow blend into the background. A little contrast between characters and build might have been nice. The build is very well done as well. I like the cheese-slope mosaics and weapon cases in the walls, especially when combined with your excellent lighting effect. The photography here is excellent and really makes the light effect marvelous. Very Drow-ish indeed, both in build style and colors and in actions regarding diplomacy! Brick on, Disco! Quote
Zerobricks Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Those floor tiles... They are just beyond awesome! How did you iluminate them? Quote
SarahJoy Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Beautiful build. Great details and expressive figures. The glowing mosaic floor is really lovely. Desaturating the figs was a clever way to depict the Drow, but I wish a bit of blue had been added back -- because they aren't reflecting blue light like everything else, it takes them out of the scene a bit for me. Quote
mccoyed Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 But Drow are SOOOOOOO EVVVVVVILLL that their inky black skin absorbs all that is light and good. Quote
ZCerberus Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Hope you enjoy it, and that this is not violating any rules. It probably is, but at least you are up front about what you did. Tell ya what, can you provide the main/first shot without the color editing? We will use that for judging purposes. Quote
Jakorin Swiftsword Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Very stunning work here Disco! The lighting works to maximum effect here to give that Drow feel. And the build itself is just stunning. Well done! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Incredible lighting and the architecture looks very forbidding Great to have you in the Guilds Quote
Gideon Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Excellent build and presentation! So happy we get to see you building for GoH also now I agree with SJ however that the editing would have been even better with some of the blue light remaining on the Drow figs. Quote
Gunman Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Great moc there... Lovely effects too. Quote
LordDan Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 This is fantastic.. it is so eerie!!The lighting looks great, and i donnt mind the fact that you photoshopped the drow. One nitpick i have is in the scene with the elves lying dead on the floor the mouth on the back of their head from the double sided head is visible. Quote
Disco86 Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Very definitive for Drow, too, more closely based on the Forgotten Realms version (which originated drow I think) than any other builds on GoH I think. Yes, I was playing Baldur's Gate when I was young so this is according to the Drow from D&D. Sorry to see the elves killed, but I guess that's what they get for entering unarmed. Exactly, that's what is going to be part of the story before. Guess we Germans have been a little underrepresented here amongst all those Dutch, Swedes and Americans ... Yes, not so many of us here, but maybe I can get some new GoH-members at my german forum. Why didn't you join Nocturnus?! That would have been to freaky for me. Building that dark an mysterious is not what I usually do, so Avalonia fits my building style perfectly. Sorry The lighting is also gorgeous, any tips for using lighting like that? How did you iluminate them? I am using LED stripes from the hardware store. They are easy to handle, even if building them into the construction needs some experience. But Drow are SOOOOOOO EVVVVVVILLL that their inky black skin absorbs all that is light and good. That's exactly the same "stupid" answer, that I wanted to write when I read the comment over yours ! It probably is, but at least you are up front about what you did. Tell ya what, can you provide the main/first shot without the color editing? We will use that for judging purposes. Okay, I am editing it Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 MOC and lighting are fantastic (already before the editing). Makes me curious to find out more about the use of LED stripes. Quote
de Gothia Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 So glad to see you joining GoH! This moc is excellent! Love the figs and the light in this one! Quote
Disco86 Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Thanks for your comments ! I have added the story parts a couple of days ago, so enjoy Quote
