TheOneVeyronian Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Well this was something I was not expecting to hear about so quickly! I am into many things, and nature/animals is one of them so this set is right up my alley. I love how they put the scientific names of each bird on the name plaques. And, most of all, these are looking like complex and intricate builds, so I love them for that reason as well. So these are a must-buy for me to go on my desk, alongside my Research Institute set which currently sits there. I guess the only caveat for me is that I wasn't expecting it to be a £40+ set. My wallet is really going to hate me come January 1st, that's all I can say! Next year just had to be the year I have less money than usual too Quote
just2good Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 While I don't plan on buying this, I'm glad to see they stuck to the original designs for the most part, and the box design is fantastic as well! Quote
Legogal Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Stunning design! We watch live birds every day from our back porch. A definite purchase for this household. (Praying hard that TLG does not slay us with another Research Institute logistics scheme like the one we just endured. Puh-lease make enough the first run for most of us who want one to get it. ) We hope that they will introduce many more bird sets because these do a lot more for us than the typical blocky-looking vehicles. They make us smile, smile, smile and think of lovely birdsongs we hear most of the day outside. Quote
jFox Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Those are really well done, and congratulations to the designer of the set, even though I don't think I'll pick this one up. I'm very glad to see sets like this make it through the review process, as I feel this one, along with the Research Institute and the Exo-Suit are more in the spirit of the Ideas/Cuusoo system than, say, all of the the licensed stuff that has been produced. I certainly love my Ecto-1 and am glad that Lego produced it, but something like the Big Bang Theory seems very odd to me. Quote
Risgrynsgrot Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 This is a lovely set. I have no interest in purchasing it but it's nice to see how little it changed in the design phase, and unlike the Big Bang Theory project (where only the license mattered and not the build) this is the complete opposite where it's all about the build, I like it! Fletcher Floyd Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Great design, nice Set -won't buy it though. As others wrote before, there are other Sets I just want more. But nonthelss Congratulations to the designer. Quote
kris kelvin Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Looking great. One copy for me :) Quote
Erik Leppen Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I want this, badly :D This is wonderfully done, and looks to be really close to the original. Quote
Front Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I have a lot of friends that are biologists, and many like birds. A great gift for friends. Now I just need to design a dragonfly that can become a set. https://flic.kr/p/fnxbYy Link to dragonfly in flight. Quote
Robert8 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Great set! Not my cup of tea but it looks great. I kinda like the artbox Quote
Shakar Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Nice, very nice! I'm a big fan of birds, so I'm tempted to pick this one up. They seem pretty big and come at a fair price, I think. Quote
XAxles Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I kinda like the artbox So do I. I see it as a refreshing departure from normal box art, whatever it means. Quote
KristofBD Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Nice box-art, clever builds. Not my cup of tea, but probably of interest to a certain niche of FOLs, and that is exactly what LEGO ideas is for. Quote
Adeel Zubair Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I seriously cannot handle this anymore; need to find a job. Quote
HawkLord Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I don't know yet if I'm going to get these... kinda on the fence. Still with that said, I think it's a great concept and really well done execution. I like that it feels really out of the norm with regards to other lego sets. This is really for people who enjoy creative models. Quote
Herky Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I really like this set although I must confess that I am glad someone posted that the middle one is a robin...I figured that was what it was, but we have some finches around that look similar. Too bad there wasn't a woodpecker in the group, I like the hummingbird the best, will be a pickup for sure as the concept is unique and I have all the Ideas with the exception of Shinkai so this will fit right in with my other ones I have displayed. May have to get one for my Mom who loves birds as well. I am glad they stuck to the original concept though and went back to 3 vs 1. 580 pieces for $45 is a decent price for this one, but agree with others, get this early or you may not get it at all. Balbo Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Wow these birds are fantastic. I will definitely pick up a copy Quote
CM4Sci Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Don't think this has been reported, but it's on S@H already. -Sci Quote
rodiziorobs Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 While they look good, I don't think I'm likely to pick it up...I'm not overly fond of birds, and as a parts pack I don't see anything in it that catches my eye. I will spend my $45 on other sets. However, I am glad to see that this set has passed, and is so faithful to the original. I think that bodes well for Ideas in general, showing that even simple unlicensed projects can be approved, and that the design team really both considers the creator's design and tries to satisfy supporters' wishes. Ranger_Elegost Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Looking fantastic :) can't wait till I get my paws on that beauty :P Quote
TuftedDuck Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 They're great. Make me think about other birds to brickify. Anyone heard if there'll be alternate builds for other bird species? Iirc he's done a few over the years and there's possibly some other species you could make woth the same pieces. Not that any other cuusoo/ ideas sets have lent themselves to alternate builds Quote
