Sir Dillon Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I'm terribly sorry Mr. Dillon, but this is not Sparta. This Eurobricks. Anymore out bursts like that and you'll have to go see our site therapist. ;-) :-( Oh well, I don't really mind seeing the therapist... he and I have gotten to know each other pretty well from all my visits. After hinckley39s comment it seemed appropiate, but maybe it wasn't considering the topic. I wouldn't worry about it... As far as I'm concerned, being silly is almost always appropriate here. ;-)
Hinckley Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 See? Even talking about talking about our beliefs creates tension. Yes, at last it has become clear to you. This entire universe was created, just for your amusment, just so you could grow to be the person you are today. Now you have seen though this, it is time for you to leave the cradle, and ascend to take you place with the others. My purpose is now complete and I face the void willingly as I know I have helped to create a perfect being. Thanks, buddy! You're swell. X-D But really, I don't think the religious thread is a place for a guy called Sinner... :-P Norrington, that was a joke-o! ;-) Glad to hear I didn't offend you too much. X-D EDIT: Really, Sir Dillon, Shouldn't I be the therapist? X-D
Siegfried Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Sorry for the misunderstanding :-) After all, I did say "Ignore this comment if you blah, blah, blah." True, but that would leave it with only me knowing for sure what I meant. Now we all know what I meant... I think. Incidentally, back on topic. I agree with the idea of why you think this is a good idea (that is to get to know people better), but I am just not convinced it would work well. All you need is one trouble maker to say the wrong thing and... However, it is obviously not my decision; who does decide these things? I wouldn't worry about it... As far as I'm concerned, being silly is almost always appropriate here. ;-) Yay! I'm home at last! :-D
Norrington Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) But really, I don't think the religious thread is a place for a guy called Sinner... :-P Norrington, that was a joke-o! ;-) Glad to hear I didn't offend you too much. X-D Well, it's just screen name. However, "Sinner" apparantly means "Fornicator" in Australia. ;-) And no, your comments didn't offend me too much. :-) Edited July 9, 2007 by Norrington
Sir Dillon Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Really, Sir Dillon, Shouldn't I be the therapist? X-D Who did you think I was talking about. X-D
Hinckley Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 However, it is obviously not my decision; who does decide these things? I don't know but don't you think it should be me?
Siegfried Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 But really, I don't think the religious thread is a place for a guy called Sinner... :-P Nah, I wouldn't worry about that; my biggest sin is Envy.... of people with more Lego than me!
Sir Dillon Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I don't know but don't you think it should be me? Yes, you should be controlling the website, because you're so humble.
Norrington Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Ok, lets get back on topic. Ater all, this might end up like the ice-cube tray thread: People go off-topic or 11+ pages and no-one has any idea what the thread was even originaly about. X-D
Hinckley Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Yes, you should be controlling the website, because you're so humble. That's what I was thinking! :-P Out of respect for Norrington, let's not turn this into the next ice cube tray thread...
Sir Dillon Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Out of respect for Norrington, let's not turn this into the next ice cube tray thread... Okay, I will try to control myself. *sad*
Hinckley Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Ok, lets get back on topic. Ater all, this might end up like the ice-cube tray thread: People go off-topic or 11+ pages and no-one has any idea what the thread was even originaly about. X-D Who would have imagined we could share a thought? We posted the same thing at the same time!! :-D :-D :-D Anyway, maybe you should start a topic about beliefs in Community, like Vader suggested. I will do my best to be serious when I post there, 8-| no seriously! I'm not sure exactly what you're hoping to find, although you have said clearly that you think it's a better way to get to know each other, but I think you'll be surprised at how diverse the world's beliefs are and how different they may be from yours. And it is a very sensitive topic as we've already seen, so while it could go very well, it may also be locked very quickly.
Starwars4J Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 And most likely it would be locked quickly, not only because it has nothing to do with the topicality of the forum, or because there's any religious censorship, but because people get carried away so fast, and then start arguing and it just gets messy. There are two things that should never be talked about in a forum that isn't specifically designed for either of them, and those are religion and politics. People can get so wound up over these it's ridiculous. It almost always turns into a huge flame war! And besides, there's no need for debate, because everyone has their own beliefs, and debates will just allow those beliefs to be argued about and defended, causing everyone to become frustrated. Debates about religion really don't tend to bring people together. If you feel like identifying with people of your religion (though why you'd choose to just with people of your own religion is beyond me 8-| ) you could always create a poll or something just to find out. But a single topic, let alone a forum for this stuff would be just a bad idea :-/ Trouble waiting to happen and all.
Norrington Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Who would have imagined we could share a thought? We posted the same thing at the same time!! :-D :-D :-DOMG! It's the apocolypse! To the bunker! :-D Anyway, maybe you should start a topic about beliefs in Community, like Vader suggested. I will do my best to be serious when I post there, 8-| no seriously! And it is a very sensitive topic as we've already seen, so while it could go very well, it may also be locked very quickly.I realize how beleifs greatly differ and that it's a sensative topic. That's why I think if discussed on these boards it should be in a forum specificly for "Political, Religous, Lifestyle, and Beleifs only" that way the forum would be made clear that it's a serious discusion place and that the "weak of heart" may not want to go in, or risk being offended in some way. @SW4J: Well, forget that I said debate at all. The forum would be about sharing beleifs and learning more about one-another so that this forum may be filled with peace, love, and understanding. Oh God, I sound like a hippie X-O
JINZONINGEN73 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 QUOTEThe real problem is alot of religions just can't seem to keep things on a personal, individual level... trying to grow outside the boundaries it should stay in... trying to forcefully assimilate the rest of the world... consume everyone and everything around it like it's Tetsuo at the end of the movie Akira. Then, to get defensive and or violent when someone unintimidated places a mirror in front of it. I have a feeling this thread is already starting to be a discussion on religion ;-) O-oh! Just merely getting a head start on it if this new forum is a yes, or simply illustrating the inevitable downside should it in fact, as it seems, be a no. X-D
Starwars4J Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 The forum would be about sharing beleifs and learning more about one-another so that this forum may be filled with peace, love, and understanding. Well isn't that what we have Lego for? ;-) We already have something in common that brings us together. We can find peace in our hobby. We all share our love for the brick. And we all have an understanding that the new forum just isn't to be X-D

We all share our love for the brick. And we all have an understanding that the new forum just isn't to be X-D I guess we both have different definitions of "Peace, Love, and Understanding". I mean it for eachother, not our hobbies. I think that getting to know eachother and our beleifs and veiws may help strengthen EB as a community. :'-) When you think Norrington, think "Peace, love and Understanding!" ;-)

EB is fine, why, do you have some problem?
Norrington Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 EB is fine, why, do you have some problem? How do you mean? *wacko*
Starwars4J Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Well you seem to think that we need religion or something silly like that to be a community, there has to be something that's making you say this, motivating you
Norrington Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) Actully, no I don't think religon will bring us together. :-| Gawd 4J, that is SOOOO Amish! X-D J/K I'm just saying that we get to know people better through their beleifs (etc.) that we can grow stronger as a trusting community and become sensative to others and what they beleive in or how they choose to live their lives. That's all. Is it really that bad? :'-( And to add to the concept I'm trying to get across: I don't care for main-stream religons and their "tedious" rituals. So you know something about me: I don't care for organized religon. I only follow my own morals and senses. Now how could we work that further into this little excercise? Edited July 9, 2007 by Norrington
Vader Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Wow.... I turn my back for a few hours and this whole topic went off track and then just about got back on track. |-/ As you can all see it
JINZONINGEN73 Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 The problem with religion on a forum is the same as it is in real life. A handful of missionaries can fly to a jungle to preach to the "savages" of their god, only to find the savages have a god that says praise is in the form of consuming their flesh. Hey, it's happened. One can talk respect and understanding all they want, but in the end, it's a bunch of people thinking they're right, backed by this creator of all things... arguing with a bunch of people thinking they're right, backed by their creator of all things. Oh yes. Conflict unavoidable. Resolution impossible.
