12V old train system 220V 50Hz adapter

Hi all folks,

I'd like to make a try with the old 12V train system, simulating a different traction voltage area on our club layouts. The important information I need but I couldn't find on the internet, the perfomance of the old 12V speed regulator. As some of you may now, we are running 8W long trains on layouts, up to 3-4 kg of weight.

If anyone has measured voltage and maximum current on the inner conducting tracks, please share with me. If 12V adapter is simply not strong enough, I have to look up for different solutions.

The 12V transformer is rated at 800ma, so should be able to run 2 motors at least.
