Posted December 1, 201410 yr I hope this isn't too late, as I am in the Eastern Time Zone, and there was no mention about what time zone the contest uses for ending. For this contest I chose to use sets 8047 and 8067. I don't own either set, so I got all the pieces that I had for both sets. I made a Mars rover, not modeled after any particular one. This model features full pendular suspension, moveable satelite dish, moveable tool arm, and a panoramic camera controlled by black gear in back. December 1, 201410 yr Nifty little rover. I like it. How do you keep the upperbody horizontal? It looks like you only have a single axis to connect the wheels to, so what is preventing the body from tipping over? BTW you were on time... just...
December 1, 201410 yr Author I used 3 12 tooth bevel gears to keep it up right. It acts like a differential, with the body of the rover as the differential housing. From what I remember reading a long time ago, this is how the real rovers do it. Unfortunately, the gears allow a lot of play, the body can tip forward by almost a stud at the ends. I tried to make it fold up, but I figure the tool arm folding would be best.
