2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) Wow, what a thorough explanation, thanks!!! Thanks for your interest in my models! After this said I want you to know that I love the idea of people going there own way with my creations! That is a good thing and please keep it up... I can tell you put in a lot of time to build your version of both the truck and trailer. It is also evident you changed a lot, because I know my models through and through I can see the differences... The visual/optical changes you describe I have thought of as well. Not that I would have come up with the same solutions as you did. Since building with LEGO is all about compromising I made peace with both the hight of the truck's frame and the hight of the fifth wheel. Never the less I do appreciate you have tried to overcome those! For me the 8 studs wide chassis was not really an option, I find it to wide. Again, we have to compromise, you gave yourself more space in-between by having it set to 8 studs... My next truck model will also have a 1 stud decreased spacing between the rear axles. With my current suspension system that ain't possible, but I came up with a second tandem axle configuration. More on this with the release of that truck later this year. Great you managed to give this truck a two speed gearbox, that is a nice improvement. Again: you did a great job and thanks for sharing this with us!!! Edited March 11, 2015 by 2LegoOrNot2Lego... motomatt Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Ingmar, Some pics of the modified internals of the truck chassis and lowboy trailer can be found here: http://bricksafe.com/pages/motomatt/IngmarTruckMods Also, I recently started working on a flat bed trailer for the same truck, and want to build another truck with a different color scheme with a liftable 3rd axle using your most up-to-date cabin design. It will have the same chassis but probably slightly longer, using your wheel lifting mechanism found on the lowboy. Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 Thanks for sharing these pictures and the link to them. Well I am impressed, I thought I was able to jam in a lot stuff into a small space, but you beat me with it...!!! What I notice is that the axle are able to move up and down, but they would not pendel easy. Luckily there is a lot of free play when building with LEGO... I am curious to see what this next truck and your flat bed will look like. When you are finished, please share them with us! Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) It took a while, but here they are, the jeep and booster to go with lowboy "Trailer Tr4 MkII" and the same trailers adapted to go with LEGO® Technic set 8258 Crane Truck "Trailer Tr4 MkII 8258". Different states, different regulations! Depending on the combinations overall weight, so the total weight of the truck, the trailer and the load, more axles might be required. Adding axles however is not that easy, it's not that you go to your local dealership and ask them to add an extra axle to your truck and trailer. In itself a truck, lowboy and load combination is impressive. Adding the jeep and booster will give this combination even more impressiveness! The total axle of the lowboy with both added is seven...! A jeep or dolly is basically a simple chassis with a couple of axles and a fifth wheel. It is much like the rear end of a semi-truck. The booster is located at the rear end of the lowboy. It has a pivot point to make the axles follow the trailer easily. The purpose of both is to spread load over more axles, this way the weight per axle is suppressed. The jeep I build a couple of years ago had three axles. Even though there are three axle jeeps I reduced it to two axles. First of all it is more common and easier to drive. Further more there is room to install a manually operated landing gear. The booster does have it installed as well. Have fun building and share with us what you think of these and even more: show us some pictures of your build of these... lcvisser Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 That looks great, as usual!! :) Your trucks have inspired me to go back to building; I hope to show my first MOC soon. How does the booster work in real life? I fail to see how it can take any load given that there is a hinge point between the booster and the trailer... Or is it a hinge connection really like in a door hinge, but with heavy-duty bearings to support the vertical load while allowing free lateral rotation? Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Thanks again for your interest in what I do and specifically this model!! @ Ludo Visser: great that my trucks have inspired you to get back building! Yes we are looking forward to see your first MOC. Give me a message as soon as you do, I do not check all posts on this forum... How does the booster work in real life? I fail to see how it can take any load given that there is a hinge point between the booster and the trailer... Or is it a hinge connection really like in a door hinge, but with heavy-duty bearings to support the vertical load while allowing free lateral rotation? I am not sure I understand your question 100%, but let me explain... Correct me or re-ask if you don't get the answer you asked for In horizontal plane there is this rotation point that does not effect the load bearing of the booster. This is for making turns easier and reduce tyre wear. In vertical plane however a rotation point would effect the load bearing of the booster. Therefor this rotation point can be locked. Loading and unloading it needs to be unlocked, while hauling it should be locked. This does not change the fact that LEGO is to weak to make this all happen, but as you wrote this is what happens in real life. On the Internet there are even pictures of raised boosters, there are these hydraulic cylinders to lift the booster, again impossible with LEGO... Quote

2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) An update (finally we might say ), a new video for this trailer is available: Edited April 7, 2015 by 2LegoOrNot2Lego... Quote
technicbuilder Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Hello Ingmar, Great job you have made, verry nice video as well,a wile ago i have build already the TR 4 trailer ,now i start collecting the parts for the jeep and the booster. Looking forward build the truck T12 it's a great combination. I read also the detials for the future models on Rebreckibale ,look's verry good. Greets Jan. Quote

bonox Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Hi Ingmar Wondering which pair of instructions to buy - If I want to put the dolly on the 8285, then do I need the MkII trailer or the MkII 8285 trailer? Does the trailer 8285 contain both the original and mod for 8285? Is the dolly compatible with both trailer versions? Thanks Quote

That is very much appreciated... Wondering which pair of instructions to buy - If I want to put the dolly on the 8285, then do I need the MkII trailer or the MkII 8285 trailer? Does the trailer 8285 contain both the original and mod for 8285? Is the dolly compatible with both trailer versions? That are a lot of question, let me try to answer them... If you want to combine both Tr4 and the jeep and booster with your 8258, just go for the 8258 versions of both of them. So Tr4 MkII 8258 and the jeep and booster for 8258. These are interchangeable with each other! Does this make sense and answer your question? Like I wrote 'technicbuilder': Thanks for your support which allows me to continue designing and building MOCs of which instructions will be available for! Edited April 10, 2015 by 2LegoOrNot2Lego... 2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted April 21, 2015 Author Posted April 21, 2015 (edited) Well here it is, the truck to go with this lowboy trailer: Model "Truck T12 MkII" Mack Granite is build with LEGO® in scale 1:17,5 and motorized using LEGO® Power Functions. It is a model of a Mack Granite 6x4 day cab truck. Both the looks and specifications are adjusted to match lowboy ”Trailer Tr4 MkII” and the optional jeep and booster ”Trailer Tr4 MkII Add1”. This rather heavy lowboy trailer combination, which might include a load, requires some extra power. You can build it yourself, building instructions and inventory/parts list, are available! You will be very excited from the moment you start the build of "Truck T12 MkII" till you finish it with about 360 different parts totaling 1900 pieces. 2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 This truck is now also available in Yellow, a solid color that makes it easier for you to change it in any other solid color you like! Cheers, Ingmar Spijkhoven Quote

ferindel Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Hi Ingmar, Congratulations for all this nice work. I heard of your trailer a few weeks ago from an AFOL from a French forum, right after seeing a video from a real trailer with detachable gooseneck transporting a huge haul truck. Since then, I was planning to build it, until I found out that you also designed the jeep and booster for it (actually, the trailer from the video had such a jeep too). After spending some time and money, I finally got all the parts needed to build the trailer, the jeep and the booster. So far, I've built the trailer and the jeep, and my Volvo wheel loader is now on the trailer. It was already quite impressive before, but it has gained some "charism" now. I'll be building the booster tomorrow for the family to be complete. These two "sets" are really incredible, and I'm quite amazed by the technological solutions that you have retained, particularly for detaching the gooseneck from the trailer. I've rarely enjoyed myself that much while building a Lego set. Once more, congratulations for this nice work, as I think that you must have been spending several hours on it. Any new projects you're working on which I may write on my TO BUILD list? :) Quote
bonox Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 There's always a bigger fish I've just bought Ingmar's plans for the orange granite to go with this trailer combination, but I came across this recently that makes most other things looks like toys. Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I really like your Mack Granite. I drove a tandem axle day cab Mack and a Volvo sleeper, and I've got a soft spot for the Macks. You've nailed the look of the Granite. Quote

Any new projects you're working on which I may write on my TO BUILD list? :) To start with: thanks for the kind words. You stated "I've rarely enjoyed myself that much while building a Lego set" and that is exactly what I to try to achieve. Go the extra mile... So yes several hours where spend, but with love! The best is to follow my blog, it tells you exactly what to expect. I have so many plans, if only had more time to get to those... I do not have the Volvo wheel loader myself, but I am pretty sure it looks well as load. Some others already shared pictures of the Volvo sitting on the lowboy and that looks great indeed!!! Yes it adds some "charism" to it for sure and I am curious how you think of it when it is completely finished. When it comes to playability I think the truck and trailer without the jeep and booster performs best. Less weight and less wheels to move... What's great about these sets is that it can both be combined or not, it is up to you... :-) There's always a bigger fish Yes there always is a bigger fish... Both the truck and trailer in this movie are astonishing, that D10 is already "quite" big, but is almost invisible sitting on this TowHaul lowboy... I really like your Mack Granite. I drove a tandem axle day cab Mack and a Volvo sleeper, and I've got a soft spot for the Macks. You've nailed the look of the Granite. Thanks for these kind words especially from someone who actually drove one! So you have any pictures of it? I do like to see that Volvo sleeper. That soft spot for the Mack I do share...
