I think my main gripe with the new AT-AT is that the legs are not under the main body but are sticking out the side! :-D

Perhaps it is the AT-AT+ with mods to counter the trip technique that was used on Hoth? :-D

Yeah, just think of it as the Empires "request" for an upgraded AT AT. After their horrible performance on Hoth Kuat Drive Yards redesigned this transport to have a lower center of gravity. You all know how *vader* handles failure. :-D

It is better than I thought it would be. Its is not as good as the first one though. I would like to see if there is room inside this walking one to actually put troops in to transport.

I may get it and then hit up bricklink to buy the parts to make the old one in the new bluish grey. We shall see. >:-)

What with the comparison, I think the new one is, well, same as anyone else who dislikes it. The legs are too far out, the cannons are too long, and there's an engine brick on the chin. Plus, the flat top makes it look too bulky for some reason. It looks more like a brick. All things considered, the new one has nothing to speak of. (until I see the cockpit interior)

You remember that thread on accuracy vs playabilty?

You've just shown where you stand!

After 6 pages of staying silent, it's now time for MY 2 cents. :-P

If there isn't a UCS version in mf size, I would be getting this. It's not easy making a visually accurate model that still walks. While it's not super accurate, I have to say it's a good asthetic model that can WALK. Yeah, at time I like to display it, but a lego model that can move and all that fun stuff? Hell yeah.

We all like to play with our lego models occasionally (KimT swooshing in the nude, for eg. :-P) and it's definitely a nice feature to have considering that the model looks good to begin with. I can't see the point with the silly motorized dino or the ferris wheel, but the AT-AT is something else! I can now swoosh around my snowspeeder with luke in it (from the hoth base set) and re-enacting the hoth scene while zipping (not in the nude mind you) around the legs of my motorized AT-AT which is moving about on its own. :-P now how cool is that versus your static AT-AT?

the only downside i can see is that the AT-AT is not MF size, which is terrible considering i wanted to swoosh my SS around it, so it has to be MF size!! >:(

A MF size ATAT? That thing would have more parts than the SD! But if it was bigger means you have space for a engine... Hmm...

Hey, we already have the UCS MF. It's not that much bigger than that. :-P although to make the UCS walk would be another story!

Beg pardon? I don't remember such threads, nor do I surf through pages of old threads because I have no where to post, and to be honest, I see playability in that the legs move, and a few of these would make for a good stop-motion film. I see little playability in the rest of it, as the only real minifig-compatible section is the cockpit. Which will, as I stated before, make my mind up. However, I think this is a good partner to the Hoth base. Grab that set with this one, and you will have 4 rebs, 5 snowies, a snowspeeder gunner, a turret, a cavern entrance, and an AT-AT. 2 Lukes not withstanding. :-| I understand TLC's need for a hero here and there, but everywhere?

Yuo'll have trouble because the leg dishes are only in bluish grey in theis set and it won't be selling for a while and the cockpit piece is only in old gray. Good luck looking for a 1000 pieces.

i don't like it at all, especially compared to the old AT-AT. the new one looks like the motorised proposal we saw a while back plus some extra system parts...

After seeing this picture of both AT-AT's, it made me realise just how good the first AT-AT really was. All of a sudden the new one does not look so good :-/

I wish that the body was more complete, but they have to make room for all the moving parts. I do think the head is actually better though.

Just to remind people, this is the prototype.

For those that don't know the Dark Side Development Kit, this look like the AT-AT in that set with better feet and extra bricks all around. The new one is substantially different structually, although the legs look very similar. I strongly considered doing the same to my DSDK AT-AT but I fast realised that I wasn't even halfway there parts wise so I didn't do it. (I have a lacking of grey plates; perhaps I should buy the UCS SSD?! *wub* )

What is a UCS SSD? Ihave an UCS ISD but is in old colors so I can't use it. I destroyed half of it for blue rivets! Strange how one or two pieces in there were bley.

Err... nothing. :-$ Yep, I meant ISD not Super Star Destroyer. Ooops.

And here it is aagin: I pulled a *yoda* :-D (meaning for you rookies that each time *yoda* is not on the boards, news arrive :-P )

I really have mixed feelings about this AT-AT |-/

Regarding the design: tks God its way better (and that is an understatment) than the proto we saw earlier (not hard though :-D )

The front guns are way too long (need modding !!), and wtf is that enginge underneath the head ?? Also I really dislike the use of those two "grills" on the side !! The head needs serious modding |-/

However, the legs are really an improvement compared tp the old one (apart the use of the yellow techinic thingie - change on). Here are pics to illustrate ;-)

Regarding the figs: ok that is really bad !! Seriously, only 1 AT-AT driver !! (the only "new fig") + a new Luke (yeay !!), another AT-ST driver ( |-/ ) and a snowie !!

Thats the price to pay to have a motorized version |-/ PLease TLC, get rid of all that crappy motor and sensor and add a better design + new and more figs !!

I will definitly buy one for sure, but I wanted 3 and I doubt I'll get 3 (it all depends on how it can be modded to look way better).

I am so looking for better pics ;-)

*yoda*

I like it!

Really thinks as you Yoda that it needs alot of modding, but so does the old one ;-) (right CM?).

AT-AT On!

-Ras-

I just realised somthing. There may be more than one snowie! Why? Because I doubt hey would display the same figure 4 times or somtun and if you looks closley at the names you see for example,

Luke Skywalker 1x AT-AT Pilot 1x SnowTrooper ??x

So there MAY be more then on! *y*

Eeeeh? Not like this you mean:

I think the 1st one looks alot better - sorry guys. This is way to much like the preview picture |-/!

Hopefully LEGO releases a version without the motor so we can get a couple to MOC with. Still it

Yes but they displayed the om the SIDE Of the box, not front! So there is hope!

Hope on what Stauder ? The number of Mfs ? If its the case, sorry to crush your dreams but the box art pic clearly shows ONLY 4 Mfs (4 pictured on the front of the box AND top)

Hmmm.... Ahh well, They still might change it! It is still half a year away! :-/ *sad* :-) *sweet*

Have you ever heard of a set being expanded from late prototype to production? I have only heard of cuts, for example the Bat Tank was savagely cut back so it met the correct price point. Personally I hope it stays as it is; I would rather it be a tad cheaper and have less men.

How can you say the legs are a real improvement when they are all wrong :-D They stick out to far as i have said before and the knee joint is now way to high (check you own pics)! Also they look far too skinny and have none of the detail that we had in the first set (this is most likely a weight problem for the gears). The only real improvement is the feet which are a good match :-) . After all my compaining i will still buy the set and now pictures are out i hope to see it moving this saturday :-P Oh and general veers is a very welcome addition to the imperial ranks!

Long time, no post ... but I thought I'd share this snippet ...

Just got back from the Celebration Europe setup day, helping build the LEGO & Brickish Association stands ... anyone going to CE over the weekend should be able to see the new motorised AT-AT on the LEGO stand. I'll post a photo or two a little later.
