Posted July 11, 200717 yr Okay, so I finally got around to making this. I used the Paint program that Lamanda found (I can't thank her enough, it's so much easier than Photoshop, Coreldraw, or Illustrator...I tried all three for my decal, but my noobishness prevented any sort of outcome). Anyway, it's fairly simple, I really concentrated on the eyes, as they're my favorite feature :-P My eyebrows are weird, despite having dark brown hair, they're blondish for most of the year, and get brown in deep winter. I wanted a bit of a smile, maybe more towards a smirk like that, so I hope that's okay. As for the eyes, I was inspired by my absolute favorite fig, Katara, but clearly I wanted a more masculine face :-P It's my first decal, so I'm sure it needs a lot of work. When it's totally done, I'll make an order from Kaminoan. Anyway, this is just a compressed .jpg, but I have the uncompressed versions with layers intact so I can fix anything that might need it. It looks a little bland, but I don't really have any other defining features. I never found noses to look good on minifigs. Maybe a curve near the edge of the smirk? I don't know, anyway here it is! Thanks for looking and commenting.
July 11, 200717 yr The face looks great! It's going to be a little difficult to see a face in your sig-fig though. You've been masked so long, it's like the end of an era. :'-( Like when we found out Kramer's name on Seinfeld. Oh well, there will only be two time periods now, the time before SW4J's face and the time after. Don't do a nose, that's very non-LEGO IMO. When you print a face decal, do you print it on clear or white decal paper? I only ask because the eyebrow color is going to be subtle and it'll probably behoove you to do a yellow background and ask him to print it on white decal paper. Have you ordered a lot of custom decals from Kaminoan? I didn't realize he did that. I've just started printing decals and they're turning out all right. I am going to post a topic about them as soon as I get my butt over to a hobby store and get some clear coat. That way once they're finished I can talk about them more thoroughly. But enough about me...yes, I like your face. Good job! X-D

Well, I might just have to darken it or something, or I'll just get more info from other customizers and ask Kaminoan himself! I've never used a custom decal before, but I know I want to use waterslide decals (which is what he prints on more or less at cost). I'll have to look into that, I never even thought about that effect! Thanks, hinckley :-) But enough about me...yes, I like your face. Good job! X-D Thanks! I'm still not sure if the mouth is too low though, we'll see how it turns out
July 11, 200717 yr A very nice work, especially with these hypnotic eyes.... *y* What, I should send you all my LEGO for free....? Of course, just give me your post address.... master. X-D
July 11, 200717 yr Eurobricks Emperor I never tried to make a head-decal. This one looks very promising, but I should really see it on a head to judge it properly.

X-D PM sent ;-) X-D I never tried to make a head-decal.This one looks very promising, but I should really see it on a head to judge it properly. Yes, I'll definitely post it on a head, but I wanted to get reactions here before I go and order it, things like that. I'd rather minimize the number of problems, especially considering how long they'll take to be made and shipped to me. Thanks!
July 13, 200717 yr Looks quite good, but like the others, I'd like to see it on a head first. But I didn't know this paint.NET thing is that good! Thanks for letting me know! Mr Tiber
July 14, 200717 yr Author Perfect! A bit more and I would have to call you Groucho.... :-D Don't laugh, I originally gave thicker eyebrows but then I looked in a mirror :-$ :-D

They also have great tips on how to customize minifigs as does this article on Classic-Castle.
July 14, 200717 yr Author If you're worried about the size, line up the mouth and eyes with this file: Actually I did, unfortunately that doesn't help with the thickness of the eyebrows, but I'm happy with it! from the Minifig Customization Network. They also have great tips on how to customize minifigs as does this article on Classic-Castle. I'm a member over at MCN, but I haven't seen that article before on C-C! It seems to be just about torsos though. As for my the basic plan is to get the decals from kaminoan (currently talking to him about it). Then when I get the decals a quick spray of clear acrylic spray, dip it in water, then apply. A final coat of floor wax should seal it and keep it nice, with possibly an application of dullcoat to take the shine from the wax off. Any other last-minute comments on the face before I get a few printed? Edit: Fixed it up a bit and I think it's pretty much finalized! The eyes are much more accurate now: Thanks to everyone who gave criticism and advice Edited July 15, 200717 yr by Starwars4J
July 15, 200717 yr I thought Milhouse had glasses.. And blue eyebrows. 8-| Seems like I'm mistaken! :-P Custom Milhouse on!
July 16, 200717 yr Thanks to everyone who gave criticism and advice Ha! Great adjustment. I actually see a resemblance to the pic you posted in the user picture thread. Looks excellent, can't wait to see it on a minifig head. I also started playing with custom decals and will start posting my progress here when my vacation is over. Great job SW4J and thanks for sharing it with us :-)
