Wait, this is a video screenshot. Does anyone have a link to that? I've only seen the one TTV filmed, which (although the effort was nice) isn't too great due to the people talking loudly over it, and the angle, etc.

I like how they've made Makuta and Ekimu similar to the villagers. It makes the Toa seem that much more alien and epic, and it makes the brothers fit in better with their world.

I was just about to say the same thing. Not only are their bodies the same, but their masks as well. Makuta, Ekimu, and the Protectors all have the downward sloping cheeks and crazy scalps.

And, yeah. I really like this. Makes them just two normal dudes, no big, supreme god-like rulers. They're just uber-talented. And like you said with the Toa: much more alien and mysterious.

I like how they're recreating the mystery of the original story but in a completely different way. 2015 is pushing all the right buttons.

Looking at Ekimu and Makuta again, it's interesting to note that their color schemes follow those of the old Technic CyberSlam theme. Or, to use the parlance that I've seen way too often in these past few weeks, #cyberslam2015confirmed. Sigh....

Anyway. Obviously there's no connection, but it is kind of cool to see the teal/purple contrast again.

Having seen them in person they are awesome! So much nicer than before and the mini cartoon is really cool too! But i didn't get a clear mask. :/

I've got to say, that without the magical affects, the LOSS' gold spider mask resembles the shape of a much less exaggerated Mask of Ultimate Power. If you examine the artstyle they exaggerate a lot of details. If anything they are very similar, the MoUP could take different forms like was has been suggested about the MoCr.

Edit: reviewing the video, the resemblance sort of ends after that second pair of details on either side of the mask.

ALSO of interest to note: Artahka's signature weapon was a warhammer, so Ekimu does more than less have more homage to him in this way.

I wouldn't mind an allusion of some kind, but a cameo basically opens up the floodgates for all sorts of alternate universe kabbitzing.

It's not even the same toa, or the same Makuta! The Makuta we knew was never a Matoran-like creature, he was a puddle of goo in a mech suit. Also, the island here is almost identical to mata nui, but called Okoto, so it's safe to assume that mata nui the person probably isn't around either.

He's not the creepy abomination of 2001 for sure. That role may go to the MoUP, and I wouldn't mind it- I really like the idea of a mask being the ultimate evil. Bionicle 1 never did that.

And I'm still going to call Ekimu Artakha in my headcanon. Ekimu, the Mask of Creation..sounds nice to me.

Ah, so that's what they mean.

It's always possible, but it seems terribly superfluous. Besides, Lewa's BIO states that he "Communes with plants and the wind," so he's decidedly different than his Gen1 counterpart.
