Kalhiki Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 All that just helped to make the universe more real and richer. Fair point. An alien race wouldn't use English (or whatever language one may speak) to describe something like, say, an animal. They'd have their own word. Like Rahi. But the issue is and always will be accessibility to new fans. Catching up on ten years of story is difficult as is. Throw in a bunch of foreign terms, and things start spiraling down the toilet. Now, are we done? If you insist. So, new topic. What characters from the old story would you like to see return? Takanuva's been expressed (and I agree), but recently I've been thinking Sidorak. And not the pansy from Web of Shadows. Like a real, truly ruthless king. Sidorak needs a second chance. Quote
Dinobrick Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) I do insist, purist. (I have a broader definition of a lego purist than most). Since this isn't the classic bionicle, I don't wish to see any return. Edited November 12, 2014 by Dinobrick Quote
arc Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I want the piraka back. Even if it's just one like vezok. And not some fused gold being or some stupid thing like that. I want the gang to be on the loose again. Revised piraka would kick megabloks. And when did the forum start censoring @$$ to megabloks? Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) I'd like to see Lariska back. She was a really interesting character and I wish she had a set. In the new story she could be fit in as a rogue Toa (if more Toa exist than the known 6) or a mercenary of sorts. Edited November 12, 2014 by Toa of Gallifrey Quote
TheGreatSpirit Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Since this isn't the classic bionicle, I don't wish to see any return. Then why bother posting in this thread? Quote
Dorek Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I don't necessarily want to see any old character back (Takanuva excepted) and I thought Makuta was pushing it a little bit. But I liked that they weren't bringing back Teridax, the character, and rather Makuta, the representation of darkness (not that I had any problems with Teridax's post-2001 characterization!). If we are going to get old characters or terms, I'd like to see more broad strokes concepts; a thief calling themselves "Piraka", or "The Dark Hunter" or something like that. Something that's a fun nod to the original series without going overboard. Quote
the last chronicler Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) The only major disagreement i have with LEGO is the assumption that varies terminology is something kids can't deal with. At that age, kids are constantly learning new terms, and by learning them those ideas, objects, or whatever become associated and stick in their mind. I think Bionicle becomes more memorable if it has it's own terminology. For some kids, the word Protector might even be new to some degree. Although I don't remember every name of the individual sets per line, names like Rahkshi and Bohrok where great to have for each group. The Rahkshi is a great buzz name for the difficult to describe walking spiked humanoid snake with raptor connotations that they were. Similarily, Bohrok can be associated with beetles, but their function and story element make them stand out on their own. Anyways this is the first year and I suspect Lego is just trying to hook kids at an even younger age, but we will ultimately end up with something that is compelling for all age groups within the 8-16 range, whcih could help keep the series from ballooning in complexity after the first 3 years. I truly beleive the genius of this line is the set design, and while not fully revolutionary, the play functions will make this stand out for kids and something they haven't seen before. The story has some compelling elements, and it shifts towards a more Indiana Jones vibe with the detailed cultural elements and Makuta 'getting what he wished for' when he made the MoUP, but I think the world building and matoran really made Mata-Nui a rich place. That was the heart of the original series that this series may miss. I also personally would have loved--if the Toa did crash onto Okoto--that the instructions opened with the classic scattered pieces. Nothing was more compelling story-wise than being told that by building your set you were entering the story. LEGO sucked you into the world before you even had something to play with, and I think seeing a crater full of CCBS would have been really enticing. Clone 01354 Productions Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Aside from Takanuva, the one character I would LOVE to see back is Vakama. He is my all-time favorite character, and a CCBS version of him would be even better than funmetal gunmetal Takanuva. I'll probably pretend that the Protectors are Jala, Kongu, and the rest of the Inika team as Matoran. Quote

Throw in a bunch of foreign terms, and things start spiraling down the toilet. I've always thought that, in the cases where these things speak English, but there are no humans around, then they do have their own language, it's just translated for our viewing pleasure. Of course, this makes words that aren't translated, like Rahi, problematic, but not so much for species names like Rahkshi, Toa, etc. Anyway, as for things I want back, Takanuva and the Mahri. And Tanma. Weird, I know, and with basically zero chance, but I liked Tanma. Quote
dviddy Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Skeleball. Skeleball is a dumb term from an annoying fantroll who is doing all they can to derail the conversation so they can post about how kiddy they think the new line is. I think we should stick to official terms. Quote

I think we should stick to official terms. THANK YOU, DeeVee. Anyway, unrelated to previous discussions... something I've been wondering about the Protector's blasters. Do you reckon the yellow center section can fit in the Technic wheel hub? Seeing it from multiple angles outside the blaster (like in BZP's Protector of Ice review) I can't help but think it might. As only a casual Technic builder (and not the kind who can design vehicles with custom functionality) I have no idea whether that attachment would even have any practical uses if it worked—but I'm sure our friends in the Technic subforum might have some ideas. Dinobrick Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) Can we contripute in the negative sense? That's a joke, BTW. Edited November 12, 2014 by Dinobrick Quote
Nekchir Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 wat is dis communism Joking aside, the protectors look really sick! Probably the best Matoran-esque sets I've seen yet! Quote
Toa Eljay Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Man, when I first saw the Protectors, I was excited despite looking forward to the Toa more. However, after seeing actual pictures, I must say these looks really great. Eager to see the rest of them and how different they end up being from each other. Granted, I'm also quite excited to see Lewa... For raisins. -Eljay Quote
arc Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Can we contripute in the negative sense? I'll probably pretend that the Protectors are Jala, Kongu, and the rest of the Inika team as Matoran. I'm thinking the same. Unless they get they're own names in the story. I still don't know if these are generic figures or specific characters. Do we have official clarification on this yet? Quote
Dinobrick Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I don't "hate on everything". And I'm sorry if it seemed that way. Quote

I still don't know if these are generic figures or specific characters. Do we have official clarification on this yet? We know the Protector sets we're getting are the village elders, and that's about it. Other than that, no clue. Personally, I doubt they'll even get names from the look of things. -Eljay Quote

Rayskull Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 (edited) its been almost a year....since I've signed in. I'm very much interested in several of these sets. Looking forward to the reviews, hoping the sets come out very soon! I purchased a few of the unreleased in the US Chima sets to get extra parts ready for them. I wish the chest pieces had stickers instead prints....or different Bionicle style mold all together. Any idea if the different masks will be made in different colors...other gold? Since this isn't the classic bionicle, I don't wish to see any return. >insists on ending debate about the new BIONICLE being stupid or not >immediately makes comment about how because it isn't classic BIONICLE you don't want it to return. Classic BIONICLE will never return, even with a continuation. Unless you have a time machine, or LEGO releases every single original set and the entire plot line all over again, "classic" BIONICLE will never return. Oh, and BZP has uploaded a Protector review: The white Protector mask is using trans-azure... *edit: Or maybe the trans-light blue color. Either way, still like it more than the regular trans-blue! EDIT: Finally! There's a Technic "spacer" element! Aka, if you have OCD and hated the open pins on NINJAGO's Battle for New Ninjago City (like me) there's a solution now!
