March 28, 20159 yr I think just a simple 'share this post to win' sort of deal would be the best option, as it would allow virtually everyone to enter and the draw could be randomised. It would also help promote awareness of Bionicle online, which is something they need for the first year of the new series. I'm not too much of a fan of the competitions nowadays due to how the building contest went down, but either way, hope the next way to win will be more fair to every entrant. What if the Solid gold mask of creation is hidden in one of the Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder sets that will be release in the summer? Edit: Actually that might be a bad idea cause then scalpers will pick up a lot of the sets trying to find the mask. Then again was there any scalper problems when the Vahki (Golden Vahi) or Bohrok Kal (VMKK/ SSKK) had rare collectibles Yeah, that seems unlikely due to the reasons you mentioned. While it could work in theory, it has a lot of variables that mean it could be unfair to some locations and people hoping to win the item. Rather than put the mask in the box, they could always do a 'print' on the inside of the box and you'd have to enter a code online to see if you've won... but once again, feel like it'd be a thing of which location recieves the set in the first place.

Edit: Actually that might be a bad idea cause then scalpers will pick up a lot of the sets trying to find the mask. Then again was there any scalper problems when the Vahki (Golden Vahi) or Bohrok Kal (VMKK/ SSKK) had rare collectibles I personally hope they don't do this. I remember when they inserted Chrome Darth Vader polybags into some Star Wars sets a few years back, and I vaguely recall stories of people actually weighing the sets to check for weight anomalies that would indicate the polybag's presence, then possibly returning any that didn't contain the polybag. Similar story with Mr Gold from the CMF line, people buying whole boxes then returning them if they couldn't find one through feeling the bags. A solid gold MoCr would probably have enough of a weight diference to be noticed as a weight anomaly compared to the regular plastic MoCr, so scalpers could potentially identify sets with the golden mask by weight alone. Remember that LEGO sets have a specified weight range to fall into (which I think is less than the weight anomaly a gold mask or polybag would cause?). But I think it's unlikely, they would be more likely to do a random insertion with a gold chrome version of a mask or something like that, so it is truly random. I don't know if the Vahki/Bohrok examples you gave fall into that category though, or were they additional masks also? I don't know, I was too young and out of the loop back then to remember such random insertion occurences I see I'm not the only one who's adverse to the idea that the giveaway/contest may only be via Facebook. I don't want to have an account for sites like that, even if there is a golden mask at stake I do wonder if one of the giveaways might be via a LBR/S@H VIP sweepstakes when you make a Bionicle purchase later in the year, maybe enter to win the gold MoCr if you buy Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder and use your VIP card at S@H or a LEGO Store during August, for example. LEGO has done it before with things like winning trips to LEGOLAND and the Inside Tour, I can't see why they couldn't do it with one of the golden masks. Also, it makes it much fairer than random insertion as it eliminates the scalper part, and wouldn't be that dependent on location. Though, having said that, it would restrict it to countries that have the VIP program. If something like this happens, I called it Edited March 28, 20159 yr by TheOneVeyronian
March 28, 20159 yr It's called "Hunt for the Golden Mask/s" so that's a hint. It's probably not strictly a raffle, but it's likely going to be some kind of ARG potentially mixed with a raffle.
March 28, 20159 yr I never saw the logic in them putting gold/silver/chrome collectors items into random boxes. Does it boost sales? Absolutely. But then what if a kid ends up with a solid gold MOCR?....I guarantee you that there are a nice handful of Mr. Gold minifigs just lying at the bottom of some kid's toy bin.... I know LEGO doesn't "care" who gets the collector's item, but come on: it needs to be more fair to the people who want it. Edited March 28, 20159 yr by LN-01354

I know LEGO doesn't "care" who gets the collector's item, but come on: it needs to be more fair to the people who want it. Well... LEGO could always add a pack of unlabeled sugar-free gummy bears to winning boxes. That's more than enough compensation for not getting one to me :)
March 28, 20159 yr I wasn't talking about the current mask giveaway/contest, I'm aware that's likely a scavenger hunt type thing. How they're doing this current one I don't know, but I was talking about other ways that LEGO might distribute the gold masks. After all, 8 masks, one already given out through a building competition, the remaining 7 will probably be given out in all manner of different ways. The first one was given away in "Battle for the Gold Mask", the second in "Hunt for the Gold Mask", so I think each mask might have it's own type of giveaway if you catch my drift I never saw the logic in them putting gold/silver/chrome collectors items into random boxes. Does it boost sales? Absolutely. But then what if a kid ends up with a solid gold MOCR? That's the reason they would do it. To boost sales. That's LEGO's logic. Do you or I like them doing things like that? Nope. I never liked their Mr Gold "stunt" anyway. But honestly, I don't think they'll put such a unique item into a set, so I don't think there's any reason to panic about a kid treating a solid gold MoCr like they would any other LEGO piece *shudders at the thought*. The sweepstakes I suggested would likely reduce that chance too, since you have to be an adult to have your own VIP account. Still, I'd prefer contests and quizzes and stuff to give away all the masks, that way it isn't completely down to luck of the draw. But any quizzes they do should be semi-hard at least, not something that 99.9% of people would be able to get right even without a search engine (I'm looking at you, British TV sweepstake competitions ).
March 28, 20159 yr I don't think it's a matter of shipping them, but rather possibly the country they were produced in (I think). Bagged and fabric parts are, I believe, produced in China, and it's these parts that are unavailable via BnP. But I'm just guessing, I probably think too much. Out of curiosity, how much did you end up paying for your clear Hau? I've been trying to get one for months at a decent price, but it's always my country's absurd and very strict customs charges (not to mention the extraordinarily high shipping that seems to exist on eBay) that limit the maximum I can spend on it to just £15, which I know is impossible You know, I vaguely remembered it's mention right after I posted that, but I'll take that with a huge vat of salt until leaks start to emerge. Also, minifig lightsaber pieces aren't even bound by the licensed part rule, so thinking of it that way, they've got to appear elsewhere. Unless of course you're talking about the Constraction sized lightsabers, in which case that will probably be bound by licensed part rule. As for this most recent Mask giveaway: if the only way of getting involved is via Facebook or Twitter or whatever other social media site like that, then count me out I don't think you're overthinking it, it makes sense. For the Hau? Including import and shipping fees, I spent 59 Euro. I justified it as a Christmas present for myself, but I don't think I'm spending so much for a single Lego piece again. :S Yes, my bad. I was talking about the constraction sized lightsabers. I'm pretty sure we're not seeing them outside SW since they're one of the franchise's better known elements.

I'm pretty sure we're not seeing them outside SW since they're one of the franchise's better known elements. Plus, I can't see those lightsabers being repurposed anyway, so we're unlikely to see those outside SW for that reason also. Hmmm... that Hau really is expensive anywhere outside the US. The prices themselves aren't that bad (I have no qualms dropping $30 or so on it), but it's the shipping (if done through eBay) and import fees that kill it for me as they add more than double to the price... it'll have to be the one gap in my otherwise feasibly complete Bionicle 2015 collection. I heard about something that BZPower might raffle some off, so all is not lost I guess
March 28, 20159 yr A share to win does seem the most likely. And I can understand why they wouldn't do another contest. Amongst other things, it'd seem less special this close to the last one. I do hope that they do one last contest at the end of the line, perhaps for an "Ultimate Edition Mask of Ultimate Power".
March 28, 20159 yr And I think it's reasonable to doubt the ninth episode officially releasing in August Sure, what I actually meant is that we could have gotten nothing between the release of the ninth episode and August. But then what if a kid ends up with a solid gold MOCR? Good for him (or her). It's not because you want it more than a kid that you deserve it more that that kid, you're not Rocket Racoon. Lego doesn't need to be fair to those who want the golden masks, they need to be fair to everybody.

I think that member was more trying to point out that sometimes these sets are brought for very young age ranges and a young kid may not appreciate or handle a golden masks very well or may not even notice its actual value (in terms of it being something special) :P Edited March 29, 20159 yr by Scarilian
March 29, 20159 yr Sure, what I actually meant is that we could have gotten nothing between the release of the ninth episode and August. I was under the impression that "season 2" would probably be launching in July?

I didn't mean "I want it; therefore, I should have it", I meant that a special item like these golden masks shouldn't be treated like some common toy.
March 29, 20159 yr I was under the impression that "season 2" would probably be launching in July? I think August is more likely since that is when the summer wave is supposed to launch. You may be right though; timing could be quite different.
March 29, 20159 yr I was under the impression that "season 2" would probably be launching in July? Why ? Because they launched the site and the first episodes in December ? I meant that a special item like these golden masks shouldn't be treated like some common toy. Hum, I don't know, it would be a good way to give to a maximum of people the chance of getting the masks.
March 29, 20159 yr I'd like to know if I'm the only one here who still doesn't have the whole first wave...

March 29, 20159 yr I'd like to know if I'm the only one here who still doesn't have the whole first wave... 0/13. Other sets have my attention for now, but maybe I'll look for some when they go on sale. Edited March 29, 20159 yr by Master_Data
March 29, 20159 yr I'm short Protector of Jungle, but I'm saving that in case we do get another GWP somewhere down the line. I bought four of the sets, and got the rest as review copies (which should be going up soonish).
March 29, 20159 yr I've got them all except Lewa who I'm debating whether to buy at all considering I have 95% of him from NYCC.
March 29, 20159 yr I only have Onua and PoS plus two hero packs. Why would I need more when I can just order what I want? Edited March 30, 20159 yr by DraikNova
March 29, 20159 yr I have two Protectors and 5 Toa.I'll complete the Toa with Onua for sure, but I'm not too interested in the Protectors for now..
March 29, 20159 yr I have everything from the first wave, including two LOSS (I made a trans-light blue version), 6 sets signed by the designers, an additional Onua, PoE and PoS for parts and the Hero Pack. The only thing that eludes me is the trans-clear Hau, otherwise I'm pretty much done. Knowing me, by 2nd August I'll have all the Skull Villains too I've got them all except Lewa who I'm debating whether to buy at all considering I have 95% of him from NYCC. You could go to Bricklink and buy the pieces you need to build Lewa that you don't have, if you want to have a complete set Edited March 29, 20159 yr by TheOneVeyronian
