Onepu the Protector Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) Plus, it's meant to be a (tribal) mask, not a helmet. Remember how back in 2001 most if not all Kanohi were pretty flat? Edited December 6, 2015 by Onepu the Protector Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Well... this is different. If those were not knockoffs, and where official Lego sets we'd have our Gen 2 Jaller, Hahli, Matoro, Kongu, Hewkii, and Onepu right there! Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Is it bad if I don't entirely hate those? Yes it is bad. Your taste is bad and you should feel bad. (jk) Quote
Dorek Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Has anyone kept the cardboard stand from there villain pack with the gold grinder mask? I'm debating throwing it out and building a stand for my gold grinder mask. I'm keeping the hexagonal poster as it works perfectly with my toa mask stand. I'm using mine, which I got from eBay recently. I like the cardboard stand, I totally think more stuff like that should be included in some sets. Or, as I keep saying, make use of the otherwise terrible cardboard boxes they seem to be sticking with, make it reversible with some scenery or something. I might brick-build something for the MoCr depending on what Umarak comes with (excited to review him soon!). Yes it is bad. Your taste is bad and you should feel bad. (jk) Thanks, Zoidberg. I like the Protector builds better, but seeing this actually makes me miss mask diversity, which I thought I was okay with until now =P. Quote
Jetrax99 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I wanted to make Jaller and co., but what I had in mind required fully translucent versions of all the Toa masks. Also, I finally got Onua (and locked out his arms because gear functions be slagged). Next on the list is everyone but Tahu, Gali, Narmoto and Kivoda (as I have them already). Quote
Voxovan Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Revenge of the Skull Spider preview is available! Quote
Bbrink1996 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Revenge of the Skull Spider preview is available! I have a feeling that this story will take place around the same time that the Toa are in the City of the Mask Makers and from the looks of it, it seems to focus on the Protectors fighting the remaining Skull Spiders which is something i'd very much like. :) Quote
Quisoves Pugnat Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Schizophrenic, clumsy prose-Gaaaaaaahh! Vizuna, Protector of Jungle on the Island of Okoto, climbed quickly to the top of a tall tree at the edge of the jungle so he would have a better view of the battle on the bridge. It's as if a tongue-twister wormed itself, xenomorph-like, into a sober sentence. Quote
TwistLaw Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I've never read a G1 book. Has it always been so blatant the "mega ultra powerful sword included in 8534 Toa Tahu○" tone? Quote

It's been ages since I read any of Hapka's three books, but it definitely wasn't that way with Farshtey, at least not overtly. Of all the criticisms one might level at him, I don't think that's one of them. Windham seems to have trouble deciding what reading level he's writing for, which creates an oddly stilted quality. Iben Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 So the description says Pohatu wears tan armour, perhaps in one of the original prototypes he had tan shells instead ? -Iben Quote
Onepu the Protector Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Some people just use the word 'tan' to describe a light shade of brown. Quote
Shakar Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 His silver parts seemed kind of tan in the very first leaked pic. Not a huge harm since we've gotten a lot of tan parts since then. And IMO dark orange looks a lot better with dark tan than regular tan. Quote
Kalhiki Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Yeah... Didn't read the preview, but I don't think I'll bother picking this book up. I have Island of Lost Masks and only read up to the part where they enter the Ancient City... Then I quit. Maybe because it was pretty much the animations verbatim, and I already saw all that happened, so why read it? Regardless, I don't think I'll bother with the chapter books. With G2's simpler story, I don't feel a large desire to read the books since I'm sure I'll be able to get the story through some other medium (even though Revenge of the Skull Spiders seems to be a unique side story, but whatever). MakutaOfWar Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 While we're on the subject, when does that graphic novel come out? Should be soon, right? Quote
TwistLaw Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 What do you mean by that? Being explicit about the fact you're trying to sell a toy by writing a book. Quote
Aanchir Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 While we're on the subject, when does that graphic novel come out? Should be soon, right? The graphic novel and the next chapter book come out the same day — December 29. Quote
MakutaOfWar Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The graphic novel and the next chapter book come out the same day — December 29. Thanks! Looking forward to the graphic novel, hopefully it adds more depth to this year's story Quote
The Outsider Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 It's been ages since I read any of Hapka's three books, but it definitely wasn't that way with Farshtey, at least not overtly. Of all the criticisms one might level at him, I don't think that's one of them. Windham seems to have trouble deciding what reading level he's writing for, which creates an oddly stilted quality. I only have her first two books, and they're not in the original language, but from what I can tell it was pretty subdued as well; the only thing that seemed to have the "buy this!!" subtext were collectibles (Kanohi and Krana) and the Bohrok swarms. Frankly, if the books are all going to be like this, I think I'll pass them; even the self-contradicting Transformers Aligned novels sound better. Thanks! Looking forward to the graphic novel, hopefully it adds more depth to this year's story Hopefully indeed. On a sidenote, it's nearly Christmas and in my country only one shop has the summer sets (or at least their site says they have them; I haven't been able to go there myself). Should I be worried? DuplexBeGreat Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 "Although Vizuna had heard legends of the Toa since childhood, they had only recently arrived on the island. Of the six, he had met only Lewa, Master of Jungle, who wore green armor, and was armed with swords and battle axes that could be transformed into an X-glider that allowed Lewa to fly. But because Vizuna was so familiar with the legends, he easily recognized the other Toa." Urrrrrgh. Quote
Aanchir Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 That... actually doesn't sound so bad to me? It's both helping you visualize Lewa and know his abilities, which might be important later on. I mean, if a situation emerges where he has to fly and you weren't told previously that he can fly, it'd kind of seem out of nowhere.... Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Yeah I'm not really seeing the problem. Sure, it's something you'd know as a fan of the series, but if this book is someone's introduction, it helps to paint a picture of the character. Quote
