Toa of Gallifrey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Back on the topic of the leaks, I was looking at the color one zoomed in and noticed the rightmost most in the top column. It looks a bit like Klakk to me but there's only been the Protectors, Toa and LOSS in set lists and discussions. Which is that one? Quote
Anexcuse Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Just looks like a skull spider to me. Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 So there's a second skull spider set? Quote
Anexcuse Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Just making sure: Are you referring to the "ice protector" on the top right? The entity that is on the top right corner of the box? Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Wait that's the Ice Protector? *facepalm* Sorry, didn't see the white. >.< Disregard my questions. Quote
VBBN Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 There has been some question as to what this topic should be and there has been some unacceptable posting the last few days, so I think a few quick final words need to be said. Announcement regarding this thread In the past, yearly discussion threads have remained a broad topic for both sets and media- For now, speculation and rumor in this thread is fine for all aspects of the coming year, from sets to media. Later on I will consider creating separate threads for sets discussion and media/story discussion, but that is to be determined at a later date. However I have noticed over the last few pages, some people have been replying with one word posts or symbols- this is not a chat room, please refer to our guidelines and put thought into your posts before you post them. I know everyone is excited about 2015 and we have quite a few new members, but please do put thought into your posts before posting. I've had to mention this a few times already in this topic, so hopefully this will be the last time. If I have to close this topic down to let everyone cool off then I will. I don't want it to come to that, so one last time I will advise our new members to review the guidelines. Thank you Quote
TwistLaw Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) And when VBBN is running out of patience, y'know serious paper sheet of teaching is going to happen. On topic, I think a Toa VS Defeneders commercial is very likely. LEGO has changed its way of marketing, and I don't see anymore commercials like Piraka VS Inika, every gang on its own, happening this time around. Edited September 7, 2014 by TwistLaw Quote
Lyichir Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 And when VBBN is running out of patience, y'know serious paper sheet of teaching is going to happen. On topic, I think a Toa VS Defeneders commercial is very likely. LEGO has changed its way of marketing, and I don't see anymore commercials like Piraka VS Inika, every gang on its own, happening this time around. That's assuming the defenders are the antagonists—and I wouldn't say that's a safe assumption to make. The Skull Spiders (which appear to be able to replace masks, like Krana, and are included as opponents in every Toa set) seem to be filling the antagonist role, and I would expect that would make the defenders allies of the Toa. The defenders would likely be featured in the same commercials if they're featured in commercials at all, but not in an antagonistic role (that is, unless the Skull Spiders take control of them). I do wonder what the chances of individual character-based commercials might be. Perhaps there might be individual commercials for characters of each element. Or perhaps they'll be grouped into team-ups of two or three. I don't think it'll be limited to one commercial for the full assortment—most commercials these days highlight no more than three different sets per commercial. Quote
arc Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Just had a thought, although you can't really from the picture, do you think Galis mask will be trans again? I think it would be a really nice touch. Quote
VBBN Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Just had a thought, although you can't really from the picture, do you think Galis mask will be trans again? I think it would be a really nice touch. As do I- it still remains to be seen how similar these are to their Mata forms, but if there is any characteristic I remember about Gali, it was her trans kanohi. I didn't hate the kanohi Nuva as much as some people did, but I did not like the Kaukau nuva at all. If it takes design cues from any of her three masks, I do hope it is the Mata version. And when VBBN is running out of patience, y'know serious paper sheet of teaching is going to happen. Okay I'll give you that one, that had me on the floor Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I loved Gali's trans-blue Kanohi. It didn't rely on any details; it was just clear plastic that relied on the face underneath to provide details. And it worked. Her Mata mask is one of the best masks. But it is very hard to tell if it is trans. I can not make out anything with her mask, just like Pohatu's and Lewa's. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The best thing about the old Kaukau was the mask pack versions meant various trans-colored versions. There really needed to be more trans masks. Nokama's was a nice advancement of the idea, with a slightly more opaque mask and clearer eye-bubbles, so it's a real shame they never followed up on that trend. Too expensive to produce? Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I'mma be contrarian and say that I didn't really like the Mata Kaukau, at least on Gali. The trans plastic made it look dark blue, which broke the colour scheme. It looks fine on post-Metru blue sets, but not so good on Mata ones. I'd rather it be like Hahli's in the movie: Opaque mostly, which a trans visor area, kinda like the Great Rau mentioned above. Quote
Kalhiki Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) They could do something along the lines of some of the Toa Mahri which had a trans-blue visor piece underneath the mask. EDIT: Also, just noticed: the Earth Defender has a purple upper leg bone. Edited September 8, 2014 by Kalhiki Quote

Aethersprite Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) I doubt the Defenders are downright antagonists. Perhaps they're antivillains just fulfilling their roles - defending/protecting the mask(s)/whatever that needs protecting/defending - then move on to become protagonists as the story progresses. Or it could be a race between the Toa and spider things to claim the mask(s), with the Defenders being the, well, defenders of each mask/the mask. On the subject of Gali's Kaukau, my favourite version of it is actually the one that appeared in Mask of Light - basically a more streamlined version of the Kaukau Nuva. A trans-blue version of that would be nice. (I'm probably in the minority here who prefer the Nuva version of the Kaukau over the Mata!) Edited September 8, 2014 by Lockon Stratos Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I think that they are neutral: not siding with the Toa, nor the Skull Spiders. I think they just defend the legendary masks from any force, and only those they deem worthy are allowed to utilize its power. Speculation: It leads to arguments and disappointment!! Quote

Mandate Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Personally, as cool as the CCBS system is I wish they would bring back the old joints. CCBS is a very good system but the problem is that the Shells are incredibly... off, so to speak. They have strange shapes and pointy edges, and while they've done a great job with IFB in bringing back Technic designs it still just doesn't feel right to me. I understand that making new molds for the old joints was costly and the new system allows for so much more versatility in design but they really need to improve the design. A lot. Quote
GK733 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) The differnce with Bionicle system was that even if it was not armoured all of it didn't look bareboned. I would like to have piston aesthetic CCBS shells, which would cover the back of the limb. When you turned a hero around it just looked it was screaming: "hit me here, that's where I'm vulnerable!" What makes this even worse is that the bones are usually black and stand out pretty bad...I personally didn't get the same effect from Bionicle. And the worst... the shells leave a gap between bone and the limb doesn't get a "round" feel what Bionicle does. For Bionicle the back was a lot easier to cover up too and didn't meant you have to make the character tens of studs bigger or make it essentially bulkier and usually in cost of playabilty and articulation. Mandate Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Agreed. Some might argue that this is just the evolution of CCBS, eg like Technic, but really CCBS hasn't changed much since it's conception except for introduction of more System friendly elements. And while IFB as a whole was great, well... it really fell short. Case in point: EVO XL, most of the Second-wave Machines, Stormer's Machine, etc were horrible in their integration with Technic. BREAKOUT hit a sweet spot, but it fell short too with some ridiculous designs: Stormer (fat chest was oversized IMO), Nex, Stringer (trans-blue is cool, but it doesn't work on torsoes), 2nd Scout version of Surge, etc. The problem with CCBS and integration of Technic/System is that at the moment with the Shell system it looks gappy and unrefined because CCBS doesn't cover up everything, most notably in Titan leg design. I think that with the Shells they were counting too much on making it a Hero Factory style that they neglected a lot of opportunities. However, if they're going to go down the route HF did with the new BIONICLE and give back the piston look in late 2015 (improbable) or 2016 (less improbable) a lot of people will be happy. Although from the looks of things, they've changed something about the Titan design. Too blurry to tell, but the legs on Tahu and the other Titan look nearly... solid, so to speak. Quote

Gatanui Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The news is up. It's less than we've seen so far, but the first clear and official image that is actually from LEGO.com, so it's completely legit. -Gata Quote
Shakar Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Wow, that mask looks gorgeous! Much bigger and elaborate than the one Tahu's about to grab in the leaked pic. Quote
