Nice! Excellent job URLing!

Thoughts:

It gives off a sort of tribal leader feeling. I'm guessing that this isn't the Mask of Life. Or if it is, it's undergone some major changes.

It almost looks like a mask of the Great Beings. It has a very sort of 'elaborate death mask' air to it.

Or it's just one particular mask for a character that we haven't seen yet that they picked for no significant reason(I'm inclined to go with this one).

Either way, there is nothing about this that screams "reboot" more than "continuation."

O_O it's gorgeous. It looks almost Tolkien-esque.The over the top appearance and crown like design make me think that it will probably be very powerful, and have a lot of story significance. It certainly doesn't look like any random mask.

Hypthetical Speculation Time: this mask belongs to Takanuva after successfully defeating Velika's forces during the 2nd Spherus Magna civil war and now ruling as the Lord of Light.

Or this may just be my imagination straying too far.

The news is up. It's less than we've seen so far, but the first clear and official image that is actually from LEGO.com, so it's completely legit.

Is this absolutely for real? Seems a bit out of the blue.

It does really have the Kanohi look, it has lots of details unlike the fairly clean (in a mostly good way, I mean) HF and Glatorian helmets . And it changed a lot from the leaked pic version: it's far less evil, more refined, with more decorations and a noble, almost divine look. If this an indication of the quality and level of detail of the Toa masks, they're going to be amazing. Maybe the Defenders/Protectors/I'll-wait-for-the-official-name mask will change a lot as well.

What I can't tell is if the updated mask has a mouth hole like the leaked pic ver or it has a mouth guard. In a rather devilish coincidence (orisit.jpg), there's a surge of energy rotating right in front of the mask's mouth area. As I said back in July, the mask featuring a mouth hole would imply the new masks attach on top like all 2009+ helmets/masks. While I like the "helmet way" better, I'd prefer the classic attachment so the old masks can be comptatible with the new sets.

Of course a question remains- is this a new mask or one we already know? If it's the Ignika it's almost certainly a reboot given the mask's current conditions. I wouldn't mind if it was the Mask of Creation, but that would imply Artakha was stripped of it: since he's implied to be one of the MU's strongest characters (a "top tier", were BIONICLE be a shounen manga), he would probably be able take the mask back by himself without the help of the Toa.

Certainly, it's one of the best mask design I've ever seen, and that's counting BIONICLE's 10 years (ahem, 9,5) and all the mask designs they brought. I'm getting even more excited

What do you mean?

Given BZPower's strict anti-leak policy, I find it out of character that they'd delve into Lego's files and post one of their images on the frontpage for all to see.

It's funny that it has been uploaded, there's still plenty of time before October, could the NYCC reveal be something other.. and the real reveal this/next week? There's no reason to upload things if you aren't ready to publish it.

There's a big difference between things posted to the actual LEGO site that are publicly viewable to anybody who can guess the URL and things that are not available to the public without breaking a non-disclosure agreement. Perhaps neither is meant to be seen, but only one of the two is actually illegal.

Despite the lightning, it doesn't appear to have any mouth hole. I vote a top-down connection. Which I don't mind considering it looks like a crown anyway.

Also, love the intricate detailing on the horns. Almost looks like writing, giving it a very ancient feeling. Hope that's not just there for the picture and it'll carry over to the set.

It's an official image on LEGO's servers so I didn't/don't see a problem with it, even more so considering that LEGO's main motive for not wanting leaks to get out is not to give competitors time to rip off their products and there isn't really too much to rip off here as it's just a single mask. If LEGO asks us to remove it, we'll do so but until then, I thought this was too good to pass.

It seems like the online equivalent of entering someone's home, getting hold of their secret information, then sending it to a newspaper and having it in the headlines, exposed for all to see. Even if it's not illegal, it's surely rather immoral.

LEGO put it on their website. I'm sure they were prepared for someone to find it eventually.

Well, even if Lego does ask Bzp to remove, I've alreay saved it to my phone.

I'm really interested in seeing wht this mask is and who it belongs to.

I doubt it's Artakha's as I'm sure the Mask of Creation would be the same gray-green as his armor.

What if they actually wanted us to find it? You don't know. ;) And it's not the same as entering someone's home as I'd have to bypass security systems for that and that is certainly illegal. There were no security systems here. Not to mention that I don't think you can compare a person's privacy to a small picture teasing an upcoming product everyone knows is coming anyway. As I said, if LEGO asks us to remove the picture, we'll respect their wishes.

You're forgetting that, in the last piece of story we got, Velika was going round killing everyone he considered a possible threat to him. Karzahni was his first victim, and he was Artakha's brother.

Artakha himself was last seen in a Great Being fortress on Bota Magna, arguing with Tuyet, Miserix, Brutaka, Axonn, Vezon and Helryx... while Velika was outside working on rigging the place to blow. If he succeeded, it's possible that Artakha's mask was blown far away, and the Toa have to reclaim it. That's just my two cents.

I should also point out the Mask of Creation is described as having slanted, pointed eye slits. Basically it has evil eyes.

This mask, prelim included, does not.

If that was the case, why not put it on the site? Heck, why not just confirm the line outright?

Secure or not, Lego's servers are still their property, and to go sifting through them and making their contents publically viewable without permission is in my view an act of intrusion.
