Is it safe to assume that we're seeing mechanisms, or some other feature? And if so, how are such things being accommodated? I don't see much hint of the shoulder balls of the current torso bones being used.

If you look closely, one or more arm(s) of each toa aren't actually attatched to the torso. I think we're seeing a "one arm attatches to a technic backpack" style like Brain attack Bruizer.

Slightly off topic a second. I'm not at all familiar with CCBS or how Hero Factory sets are usually built since I admittedly stopped paying it any attention after the first wave. So I'm coming from the standpoint of a complete noob when I ask; is it not weird/excessive that Kopaka has armour/shells on top of other shells? And at that, white on top of gold. It's not just excessive, but it's apparently also backwards. O_o

What I DO like however is that some of these sets have translucent neon bone and hand pieces. I'm not certain why I like that so much, but I do. :P

Do you mean the shoulder armour? It looks to me like it uses other balljoints than the ones normally attached to the torso.

I think he's referring to Kopaka's massive chunky legs. If he left after 2.0, he's unfamiliar with the grey piece that allows that design.

Indeed. Although upon closer examination, it seems a lot of the others have the same armour on top of armour situation. It's just less noticeable.

Yeah, but during those times the same line (BIONICLE) was produced without interruptions, making it easier to reuse old pieces (e.g. mask of shadows in '08).

It seems a little harder for me to see pieces of a discontinued line coming back alongside the theme, buy you may never know

this and this last time used in 2009 then appeared in 2013.

Kopaka's leg armor's color layering is indeed questionable.

And speaking of armor layering - I'm disappointed to see none of the new Chima armor add-on part used in these preliminaries.

Just had a look at the new pictures, still not convinced on the defenders. I dunno, the proportions just look horribly goofy, especially those big heads. Toa on the other hand look quite nice, likin' the new Gali mask, at more than Mistika and Nuva versions. Still, some proportions are off on some toa, modding imminent.

Look at ice defender, this confirms mask attachment is in the mouth.

How? Sure. it covers the mouth area, and there's a slight depression that could be the injection area, but there's no conclusive evidence there to prove how the masks attach. All we can say for sure is that they definitely don't attach by the top.

What's the alternative? 2 bits attatching from the sides? They only ever did that with splitface, because he had to have a 2 coloured head. I think front and top were always the only 2 possibilities.

What if they attach like the Piraka heads did - with an axle through the sides? It could be "capped" on either side by the earmuff-type thing that Roly and DV mentioned.

I'm willing to place money on the masks having a front connection. Defenders have a split in the top of the head, and the Skull Spiders are designed to where a front connection is the only thing that could work (big forehead. It doesn't slope back). So if those two use it, I figure the Toa would too.

Also, side connections just wouldn't make any sense.

There's a hole on every mask front and naturally on the other side must be an axle.

Is the gear functions (moving arms) really brought back? It makes the Toa sets very appealing for new fans!

Looks like it. There're definitely gears on Onua's back.

Personally, I hope there's some locking feature so the arms don't go swinging everywhere. But I'll probably get the sets, feel the nostalgia of gear functions, and not care.

Me too, the nostalgia is returning.... And I'll definitely buy the Defenders, Toa and the LoSS, The Toa are amazingly rendered in the CCBS system, which is definitely unrelated to Hero Factory, probably...

Nostalgia?

Onua looks like re-regurgitated baby vomit. There, I said it. I'll be ordering tons of black/purple parts to fix it.

Agreed. I will make him thinner like the other Toa, maybe bulk up the arms a bit, but the massive chest is going immediately.

And how can some of you not buy the whole set? If you are buying this for nostalgia, then that's silly, and if you buy this for a collection, you need all of them.

There are some people who have a limited budget to work with, and who didn't even bother to buy all the Toa from each series even back in the days of the old BIONICLE. I was lucky, since having two siblings, I only had to buy two out of every six sets to get to see, play with, and experience them all. Other people don't necessarily have that luxury, and have to be even more selective, especially with these prices being what they are.

Considering the fact that the only HF set I got this year is FJM (a HUGE step down from previous years, heh) I think I'll manage getting all of the Toa at least, and maybe a couple of Protectors.

Not sure if it's been pointed out, but the box for Lord of the Skull Spiders doesn't refer to it as such.

It refers to it as "Skull Krata".

The hype train. It's overtaken Smash Bros.

I can't hold this back anymore so here it goes.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BIONICLE 2015 IS HAPPENING YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES SUCH HYYYYYYYYYPE CHOO CHOOOOOOOOOO

Posted (edited)

I'm definitely going for Lewa, Gali and of course Tahu, although Pohatu has also tickled my fancy. Not sure about the Protectors though... and Skull Krata is honestly really unappealing to me.

(for the record, I LIKE Onua, don't judge me)

Is BIONICLE still very popular today?

Relatively popular, since the Ask Greg chatroom on the LMB always seems to be pretty busy, and we do a fairly brisk business at BS01 as a result. But ultimately I don't think this line is meant to appeal to the people to who liked it back then, but rather a new audience (granted some of the sets look a bit more complex than the average one of yesteryear, but I think that has to do with the different divisions in set size more than anything else).

It's been pointed out; some people theorize that these pics are from earlier in development, and that the name was just a placeholder.
