Onua looks like re-regurgitated baby vomit. There, I said it. I'll be ordering tons of black/purple parts to fix it.

That's going a bit overboard, but I do agree his colour scheme needs some work. I liked the subtleness of tr. purple (transparent colours are very muted most of the time) a lot more than the bright, bold lilac. Of course this might change given the early state of these sets bar Lewa and the Fire fellows. But the gold is going to stay, and I'm not sure if Iike it (especially since it clashes with his silver shoulder pads), I think I'll replace it with silver (it's going to be a problem if the chest sticker uses gold, though..).

And colours aside, I used to be ok with him being bulky, but now that I see him better I'd say he's TOO bulky: Hulk chest, massive shoulder pads and bulky limb armour? That's MOC-like in the designer's dedication to make him as ripped as possible. It doesn't help his torso looks really short (there isn't even a torso shell, just a silver shoulder shell- great recolour BTW- half covered by the chest piece). Add the fact I have some..ideas for Onua, and that body build might not even suit him anymore.

And, someone probably pointed it out already, but have you seen that GIGANTIC pillar behind Lewa? The other backgrounds were generic enough they could be Wahi regions, but that thing makes it clear that jungle is not Le-Wahi.

Oh what the heck, why is it that I always end up starting a new page?

The nostalgia of seeing Tahu lava surfing is too much to bear!

Also, love how they made Kopaka's mask similar to his old one. He was always my fav character, although I wish he had a shield...

I like Onua's design, but I'm a bit bothered by the color scheme. The silver shoulder armor feels a bit out-of-place to me.

I'm noticing what look like Technic half-pins with studs on both his weapon and his shoulders. They don't seem to be performing any obvious function. Perhaps included for a combi model of some kind?

I can't help wondering if Lord of Skull Spiders has a Technic function. It seems plausible, since he uses rigid Technic so extensively in his legs, and has what looks like it could be a handle or trigger of some kind on his back. Of course, the legs could be explained as an attempt to make posing easier on a six-legged model. But I still think a Technic-intensive model like this with 149 pieces seems out-of-place among the other sets unless it has some sort of function.

(for the record, I LIKE Onua, don't judge me)

Okay good, I'm not the only one that likes him. :D

It's been pointed out; some people theorize that these pics are from earlier in development, and that the name was just a placeholder.

I hope not. Lord of the Skull Spiders sounds like "Generic Evil Guy name number 69". Skull Krata sounds... oddly vague, mysterious, and very Bionicle-y (When I say this, I'm assuming they're going to treat it like a new theme)

The only thing I find wrong with Onua is the silver. Otherwise I'd say he's pretty cool. Especially love the mask.

Hoping some of the white on Pohatu will be changed into gold seeing as he's the only Toa without gold parts (except if those yellow bones are supposed to be gold)

Black and Purple is awesome. Black, purple and gold is questionable. Black, purple, gold and silver is nasty. Black, purple, gold, silver and yellow is ridiculous!

Kids aren't stupid lego. they don't need colour coding to show them where the function is. If they own the set, they will probably have assembled it themselves. -_-

Design wise, I love how Onua looks, but that colour scheme is so annoying.

I see no gold on Pohatu, Gali, or lewa, and I think it's very much deliberate.

That's an odd conclusion to jump to. Packaging art doesn't necessarily reflect anything about the story's setting (such as all the interesting things in the backgrounds of the Glatorian canisters) and even if such an obelisk is in the story, that doesn't preclude it being Le-Wahi. Le-Wahi as we know it doesn't have an obelisk, yes, but then again Lewa as we know him doesn't have vents all around his mask.

And Gali as we know her doesn't look like a snarling monster.

Relatively popular, since the Ask Greg chatroom on the LMB always seems to be pretty busy, and we do a fairly brisk business at BS01 as a result. But ultimately I don't think this line is meant to appeal to the people to who liked it back then, but rather a new audience (granted some of the sets look a bit more complex than the average one of yesteryear, but I think that has to do with the different divisions in set size more than anything else).

1

Do the appeal of a new audience confirm that it is a reboot?

Do the appeal of a new audience confirm that it is a reboot?

Not remotely. I don't see why anyone would jump to that conclusion. You can have a new audience just by not going into too much detail about what came before. Lego is always trying to hook in new people, every year, but they don't reboot every wave.

it COULD be a reboot, but just the suggestion of appealing to a new audience doesn't add anything to that argument.

That's certainly my impression, although enough people seem to be looking for signs that it's a continuation, so it's not a foregone conclusion necessarily.

I don't see any white on Pohatu; to me, that is quite unmistakably, unquestionably silver.

There's also no gold on Lewa (those shells are almost certainly Keetorange) and Gali only has a single golden spear. Only the larger three make gratuitous use of gold.

I have a question, do you like the resealable bags or the brand-new hexagonal packaging?

I liked the bags. While they don't have the appeal of canisters, I can store them all in a single titan box.

As for the new packaging, I have no experience of it, and can't even really tell how it's supposed to look.

For all we know, this hexagonal packaging is just an extremely rought attempt at reproducing the shape of the resealable bags. These images are certainly rough enough for that to be a possibility.

That being said, if these are some sort of folded cardboard, I'd be happier with that than a plastic bag. Neither has the appeal of a canister, but at least cardboard can be recycled. I don't think the Kool-Aid pouches can.

Depends on what this hexagonal packaging is, assuming it's even final. If it's some kind of collapsible box/canister thing? Heck yes I like that. If not, then hopefully something else functional and space-efficient.

Posted

I like the canisters, because of the relationship to the storyline, and how they were the "pills" that delivered the "medicine," the Toa. But, if it's a continuation, Mata Nui is already cured, so there is no need for them.

The spiders look interesting. Wasn't expecting them to be masks.

Do refrain from sharing leaked images. Confidential sharing policy was discussed with Lego a few weeks ago and this remains to be our policy.

Good thing these aren't confidential then.

I won't be able to decide until I can see the functionality of the new hexagonal packaging for myself. If it turns out that it can be resealed and collapsed flat without changing the ability to reuse it, then I think it has the potential to be at least as good as the resealable bags. If it fails in one or more of those areas, I think it will have a harder time meeting my expectations.

That being said, if these are some sort of folded cardboard, I'd be happier with that than a plastic bag. Neither has the appeal of a canister, but at least cardboard can be recycled. I don't think the Kool-Aid pouches can.

The pouches ARE recyclable, but whether you can recycle them locally depends on what types of plastic your local recycling center accepts. The Hero Factory pouches have a resin identification code of 7. For comparison's sake, most BIONICLE canisters have a code of 1 and most BIONICLE canister lids have a code of 5.

Personally, though, I wouldn't want to recycle my Hero Factory pouches. Why bother? Not only do they collapse flat when not in use (meaning they take up hardly any space), but the art has been getting more and more beautiful each year, to the point that the packages now feature gorgeous illustrations on both the top flap and the bottom of the package. I have more reason to recycle my BIONICLE canisters, which are taking up loads of space in my room, than to recycle my Hero Factory pouches.

The pouches are far less universally recyclable than cardboard, though.

Also I just don't find the pouches appealing. The art is kinda neat, but otherwise, I have no need of them for storage, and unlike canisters, they serve little to no display purpose. Even if Bionicle canisters weren't more universally recyclable, I'd not object to them, because they have a more lasting appeal to them than a flattened Kool-Aid pouch with some nice art on it.

These piece counts just seem fishy all around; the aforementioned Pohatu/Protector discrepancy of course (although I do acknowledge that the Protectors' piece counts are inflated as a result of the stud shooters), but also LoSS compared to the Titan Toa. It doesn't add up in my mind, although I suppose anything's possible.

Also, of note; based on my calculations, I was able to pinpoint 45 pieces used in Lewa out of a piece count of 85. That means that his torso uses 40 OTHER PIECES to compose itself.

I find that more than a little unlikely, but I suppose, once again, anything's possible. :P

It's possible as well that these are just lazy renders. Look at this render of Toa Ignika for instance:

1200x900-2.png

I can't even begin to list off the things that are wrong with this FINALIZED RENDER and the number of pieces inexplicably missing from it, but needless to say at this point, I'm not sure the renders are anything to go off of when counting small pieces. Nevermind the possibility that the numbers themselves may be off.

Oh boy.

Earth Protector: Trans. Purple mace? Dakka chest? The only thing I don't like is the rock armour.

Fire Protector: I'm loving the chest armour and blaster.

Gali: Not much to say, I just hope the mask and weapon colour changes. Decent.

Ice Protector: More Trans.Saws? Yes

Jungle Protector: Loving the gatling bow, loving the set.

Kopaka:Everything is great, except the Gurahk staff.

Lewa: Double wind axes? Nice.

Lord of Skull Krata: The face print is alright, curious about the Technic legs. Decent.

Onua: Still my favourite Toa. Loving the colour scheme and the mask.

Pohatu: The boomerangs look cool, shame the rest cant be said for anything else. Also, Phantoka mask.

Stone Protector: OK, but the staff looks a bit off.

Tahu: Second favourite Toa, everything looks great.

Water Protector: The weapon looks odd, as do the propellers. Not bad.
