Timeline15 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) To me, Gali looks more like a bulky, mutated beast from the pit than a female Toa all this makes me wonder what It is that makes a mask feminine. Much of the community, myself included, consider the faxon to be one of the most feminine kanohi. It's one of the most overused masks for female mocs, and yet it was reused flawlessly on lesovikk. So why do we see such a clearly genderless mask as feminine in appearance? The same thing happened with Breez's face. It looks feminine once you KNOW she's female, but can be used on male mocs just fine. Edited September 15, 2014 by Timeline15 Quote
Grima Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) To me, it has less to do with looking feminine and more to do with looking like the Kaukau. Even the Miru clearly resembles its former form, if a bit rounder. But the Kaukau has been warped, squashed, stretched, and mutilated beyond recognition. Edited September 15, 2014 by Grima Quote
Timeline15 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I really wonder why it changed so much, when Tahu and Kopaka's changed so little? I was comparing it to the nuva this whole time, but realising that this is the mata kanohi... yeah, its unrecognisable. Quote
Shakar Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) My two cents on the mask question: I'd say masculine masks (like the ones typically worn by Earth or Stone Toa) don't work on females, but feminine ones can work on more androgynous males, like Air Toa. I'd argue though, that most early Kanohi were quite genderless, except maybe the Hau. Later we got more bulky and masculine ones, like the Kanohi Nuva, the Avokhii, etc.. Is Water Protector using dark blue shells? Please let it be so. On the display they looked transparent but this is a case where I prefer the..pre-preliminary pic to be the right one. >meant that to be found >posted it on Google+ those two things don't add up Edited September 15, 2014 by Shakar Quote
Mesonak Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I will say this about Gali's Kaukau: Gali has NEVER had a faithful translation of her mask. Her Nuva mask was... polarizing on a good day, and her Mistika mask was loathed by mostly everybody. This mask, in comparison, is pretty good! I have few issues with it. I will concede that I prefer her Mata mask, though. :P Quote
Kalhiki Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I think the biggest problem isn't with the mask. It's those red eyes. Hopefully they'll be changed to yellow in the final set which would look a lot less... Evil. Also, I quite like the Mistika Kaukau. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 all this makes me wonder what It is that makes a mask feminine. For the record, I never ever saw the Faxon as feminine. It looked robotic, if anything — as such, I find it more fitting on the Toa Terrain Crawler than it was on Hahli OR Lesovikk. The only thing that might make it seem slightly feminine is its large eye holes, but even they were sharp and angular compared to the soft, round eyes that gave even the much-hated Kanohi Elda a slightly feminine touch. As for the new Gali's mask, all its shapes are smooth curves, even though some of them meet at sharp angles. It also maintains the triangular mouth that defined both the Kaukau and Kaukau Nuva in most depictions. And the forehead resembles the Kaukau Nuva as it appeared in BIONICLE: The Game and BIONICLE: Mask of Light, albeit slightly stylized. The only trait that strictly reminds me of the 2008 version of the mask is its elongated, pointed chin, which in this version is shaped much differently and doesn't come at the expense of a clearly-defined mouth or breathing vents. I don't see that as a particularly masculine or feminine trait — it's a trait that would appear heavily stylized on a mask or face of any gender. I think the biggest problem isn't with the mask. It's those red eyes. Hopefully they'll be changed to yellow in the final set which would look a lot less... Evil. Are the eyes red? On every picture I've seen, they appear colorless, or even slightly greenish. I don't know where people are seeing red eyes, unless I'm somehow going color-blind and never noticed until now. Quote

Anyway, I'm very hyped. These are going to be the four longest days of my life... press release? Confirmation on reboot or continuation? Full high-quality set images? God, please have all that come on Friday. Edited September 15, 2014 by Puffle Pal26 Quote
Timeline15 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 did you just quote your own post, within the same post? XD Anyway, Gali does look a bit like her MoL self, which is weird, as all the others look like their mata forms. Quote
Dorek Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Y'know, now that we've seen the skull spider renders without color... I kinda want a silver version too =P. Also the mask on Fire Defender has some sort of yellowish tips? Also also Kopaka has an ice hand? (whoop) Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The Elda was hated because, while the eyes were fine, the tubing under the nose and on the chin looked like facial hair, and the entirely smooth top of the head make her look a bit like a bald guy with a mustache and a goatee. Then again, the Inika masks in general were horrible. And Gali's eyes look green to me too. Quote
TheBrickPal Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) did you just quote your own post, within the same post? XD Yeah, Eurobricks is really messed up sometimes on mobile devices. I had to edit that post quite a few times to make it seem logical... Anyway, to get back on topic: what do you guys expect from this reveal? Do you think that after, we will find out more at New York Comic Con in October (like we originally thought would be the case for the announcement of this), or will it be something completely different? Timeline15 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 As the TTV guys pointed out, reveal and unveil are 2 different words. It could be that on Friday, they just say "yeah, we're doing this" and that comic con Is when they'll actually show the sets. Quote

Mesonak Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I may be completely mistaken in assuming this as I don't really have any evidence to suggest this is the case, but it seems plausible to me that this is a spur-of-the-moment announcement by Lego in response to the recent leaks, and the intended (and full) announcement would still take place at Comic Con. It would explain the sudden, out of nowhere appearance of this announcement and the somewhat convenient timing of it taking place right after set leaks. So yeah, quite similar to what Timeline said. Picture this hypothetical scenario: Friday: Announcement of theme's return, one HQ finalized picture, "more details soon..." NYCC: Full unveiling of entire wave (or, at least, all of the Toa), story and media (TV show) details. Edited September 16, 2014 by Mesonak Quote

Picture this hypothetical scenario: Friday: Announcement of theme's return, one HQ finalized picture, "more details soon..." NYCC: Full unveiling of entire wave (or, at least, all of the Toa), story and media (TV show) details. I hope that's not the case. Mostly because I want the Bionicle reveal to be done all at once, or gradually on a teaser site, and NYCC to feature the grand debut of ELVES. I want new information about that theme so bad; the pics we've seen look GORGEOUS. Quote
King of Nynrah Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 If we got a written confirmation on the theme's return on Friday, and nothing more, that would be utterly pointless. It's already 300% confirmed returning and is common knowledge now to everyone everywhere, so if we didn't see something new it'd be a huge letdown. I wouldn't mind it if they revealed, say, one set a week up until release... that would at least give us something to tide us over. Quote
Mesonak Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Well, my theory includes the possibility of a singular set reveal until NYCC (of course, assuming it is BIONICLE). If anyone, it would probably be a finalized Tahu. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 So, yeah......I forgot to save all the pictures, and they have already been taken down!! Can anyone provide a link.....or something? Quote
Timeline15 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 white Timeline That's me XD Seriously though, I'm hoping we get a less preliminary view of the sets on Friday, maybe new cgi, or packaging images, perhaps with the sets themselves saved for comic-con, assuming that's Bionicle. Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Thanks Mesonak! (You too, arc! ) I got nervous for a second. Now that I can see them again..... Gali does appear to have green eyes. Look at her left eye. ^LordChris, I think people blew it off, saying that it was just a preliminary symbol for the current mystery mask. I think so too, but it's sad. I love that symbol, and wish that it was used on every box ever. The Ignika clearly says traditional mask, while the neon space behind it represented the science fiction nature of Bionicle. I LOVE IT. But it will be gone, so enjoy it while you can.
