Mandate Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I liked treespeak as written by Templar and Cathy Hapka, not so much as written by Greg. Good treespeak isn't just combining two redundant words; in good treespeak, the combo of words should mean more than the two separate words. How about three separate words? It can certainly work: "IamGroot" Edited September 16, 2014 by JayWalker Quote
Cagast Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 So BIONICLE to be revealed this friday. i don't think that was an accident but that they did that purposely to see how much people will notice it. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Personally, my one biggest misgiving about Pohatu is more about how his colors are organized than what colors he has. Doesn't totally jive with the other Toa, who appear to have metallic chest plates and colored torsos. Also, I'm not totally sold on the asymmetry in his arm colors. It was awesome on CHI Panthar, but that had asymmetrical weapons to justify it: he had one regular arm for holding weapons and one powerful, energized arm with gold armor and a big gold claw. On Pohatu it's hard to read a lot of significance into it, since he uses the same weapon in both hands. Quote
TwistLaw Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) There's a lot of disdain for the line as a whole on Brickset, for certain. You know, there's this idiom where I live (Italy) that says "Io so' io, e voi nun siete un c_zzo", which translated means "I am who I am, and you're nothing" (nothing should be translated in a much more vulgar word). The same applies for us: we're the constraction fanbase, and anybody else disdaining our favourite theme has an opinion of the same value as the dead body of a fly. Nekchir Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Soooo, how many sets are ya'll going to get once Bionicle is released? I plan on getting every single one, on day one myself. Though at the cost of a couple games for the month. Quote

You might want to censor that word, anyone who's played Assasin's Creed II or Brotherhood (like me) will know enough Italian to read that I wouldn't refer to people's opinions of Constraction like that though. Chro Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Just read through the entire comment section of that Brickset post. Ugh. Although I totally expect it by this point, it frustrates me to no end to see everyone saying how they think Bionicle is a useless and boring theme appealing only to non-AFOLs. Quote
Aethersprite Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Well, there's always been a disdain for constraction sets in general amongst the larger AFOL community. As a EB member for several years I can testify to this; back when we used to get leaks via photos of the retail catalogue, HF was usually the last to get them, if at all. Why? Simply because most of the leakers didn't care for them, or thought that people didn't care for them. Well, our community has seemingly exploded in size with Bionicle's return, and I'm glad to see that! I don't think we should worry too much about how other AFOLs view Bionicle - to each his own, and I'm quite happy with our little community here. Edited September 16, 2014 by Lockon Stratos Quote
Still Raindrop Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Yeah, that Brickset thread is pretty ridiculous. I understand if Bionicle/constraction doesn't appeal to some(after all, the ball joint system used by CCBS and older Bionicle is a system, but it's different from the brick-based system of classic Lego, and some fans just want Lego to essentially repeat the 1980s)--I just find the bashing frustrating, especially since I'm also a big fan of system themes. Live and let live! Edited September 16, 2014 by Mariko Quote
Zenerius Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) The LEGO community is essentially divided into two groups: Those who are system junkies, and those who like constraction. Of course, there are some who like both. In the end, we're all just people playing with kids toys. Anyway, if the gear function bothers anyone, you can just put the arm on the exposed ball joint. Problem solved? Edited September 16, 2014 by Zenerius Quote
Mandate Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 ^ you forgot the third "we like both" group. A lot of people fit into that category. Quote

I wouldn't divide the Lego fanbase into such distinct groups - we each have our own different interests. Anyway, if the gear function bothers anyone, you can just put the arm on the exposed ball joint. Problem solved? Not really. It might be possible for sets like Pohatu, but for the larger sets like Tahu - the exposed ball joint is actually somewhere in the middle of the torso, not at the shoulders. And even for sets like Pohatu where the exposed ball joint is on the same level as the shoulders, the torso piece being used seems to be the narrower torso piece, so you'd have to swap it out for a wider one in order to utilize the shoulder ball joint. OmastarLovesDonuts Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Yeah...I read the Brickset comments on that article and more people appear to want a UCS Millennium Falcon than BIONICLE's return. I personally can't wait until Friday, because an official announcement comes with official, high-resolution pictures that we can freely discuss and link to. Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Aanchir, I agree--I think my memories of bad treespeak were clouding my memories of how it can be used well, and I reacted too strongly. How could I forget "Uptree battle, downtree peace"? When used well, as I mentioned, it can be great. I guess I hope that, if they do keep it, that they use it consistently and well--maybe bring in an actual linguist (or amateur linguist) to advise. And what about in MOL: "Foot-walking? Not-never! Only wind-flying!" <-(Paraphrased). Also: chop-killed, smash-broken, etc. I quite like the redundancy of that treespeak. oh i completely forgot about lewa! he seemed too serious or at least not as playful as i remembered. wast gali more the caring type who would prevent unnecessary harm to rahi? i think they nailed the fun loving energetic air toa in toa matau. Yeah; Matau had a much more Toa of Air personality than Lewa; I still loved Lewa's, but he was just a bit too serious, or not enough energetic. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Brickset has a lot of users who are hostile towards themes they don't collect or understand in general. The forums, which have an age restriction in place, are slightly better, but the news article comments can be a dire place. And even on the forums there are some people who are EXTREMELY vitriolic about sets or themes they don't like, regardless of how other people might feel. There's a reason my twin brother hasn't joined the site. Quote
TheBrickPal Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Not sure if anyone would care, but I made a Wikia wiki just for the new BIONICLE. The URL is http://www.bioniclereboot.wikia.com And, if anyone complains about "reboot" being in the URL... I wanted to keep it short, and "2015" isn't allowed in addresses. I know this won't replace BS01 or the OTHER BIONICLE Wiki on Wikia (which isn't very good). But it's specifically for the new stuff, which should help with researching information specifically. There, we are only referring to the old 2001-2010 stuff if and when needed. We even have a timeline of all of the leaks so far. Carry on if you want, but check it out and help contribute if you are interested! The LEGO community is essentially divided into two groups: Those who are system junkies, and those who like constraction. Of course, there are some who like both. In the end, we're all just people playing with kids toys. Best quote ever. Edited September 16, 2014 by Puffle Pal26 Quote

Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 So....Why are some people still debating about what Brickset meant? The image URL says Bionicle-reveal-4 (or something like that). It is Bionicle, no matter what, so....... How many milliseconds until Friday? Quote
Jakura Nuva Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Wow - twice as many pages here than the last time I checked :P Anyways, this makes me question what the NYCC unveil is. I know it could still be BIONICLE, but would it make much sense? Also, sorry if this has already been discussed. Edited September 17, 2014 by Jakura Nuva Quote
Zenerius Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 We have approximately 253,045,000 milliseconds until Friday. Let the countdown begin. Quote
Clone 01354 Productions Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 ^Too many still. It needs to be, like, right now!! Also, Jakura Nuva: I think it may still be Bionicle. Friday will be the official reveal of the theme's return, but NYCC will be the reveal of the sets. Quote

Zenerius Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) Did you guys notice the very small flap protruding down the middle of the boxes? Perhaps they could act as set "previews" you flip up to view more info. Maybe it could have a clear view of the parts, backstory, or functions. Edited September 17, 2014 by Zenerius Quote
