Leewan Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) I hope there will be a way to disable the function, like the extra gear in the Nuva sets. It's possible, I noticed something like this on Lewa : (well, at least the gears, the other parts are just an assumption from me) The friction should be enough to hold any certain position, thus disabling the function, in a certain way. Agent Fusion Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I like that, I like that a lot. As long as it doesn't give way over time, that should work perfectly. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Maybe the smaller Master sets don't have gear functions? (On mobile, so can't really reference pics) Pohatu and Lewa definitely have gear functions, so it would be surprising to say the least if Gali didn't. Quote

If there is such a setup for each arm (i.e. a 8t gear + friction pin on each side), you can be sure it won't move. But it could be hard to rotate. I don't have my parts right now, but I'll try to build an actual mock-up this week-end. Edited September 17, 2014 by Leewan Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If we have gold, do you think it's a reference to the gold parts on the larger sets, and the gold masks, or possibly Takanuva? Quote
Shakar Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I think it's a bit too early for Taka. I'm pretty sure the gold is a reference to the gold armour and masks. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I have the feeling that, when/if he appears, since Kopaka is white and gold, Taka will be mostly gold with some trans. Quote
Shakar Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I agree he will be mostly gold, it was harder to do in 2003 but it's incredibly easy thanks to the CCBS. Though TOO MUCH gold would look tacky- even Rocka had to balance it out with titanium metallic and silver. Tr. yellow elements would fit him as well. Though, by the time he appears the Toa might've gotten a Nuva-style upgrade with the gold armour not being a thing anymore. Quote
GK733 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I have the feeling that, when/if he appears, since Kopaka is white and gold, Taka will be mostly gold with some trans. Well depending on if it's continuation or a reboot. Did Taka get back his color scheme he lost as toa of shadow and light? Or was it just set design decision to give him silver instead of gold to not get over Tahu in marketing? Quote

Lord-Vorahk Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Yeah, it was just to make Tahu special. Quote
Kalhiki Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Or, Takanuva could be black/gunmetal and gold and have his shadow powers as well as light. Anything can happen in a reboot. Or they just keep white and gunmetal. @GK733: Takanuva, having light powers can change the color of his armor. He reverted back to gold at the end of 2008. Then he changed back to grey and white (for whatever reason) in 2010. Quote

I remember seeing a cool potential explanation that Takanuva kept his coloring as a reminder of the dark experiences he went through in Karda Nui. I also remember being the one to make up said explanation. Instead there was some baloney about silver being less visible than gold in the desert that got accepted. I'd love to see Takanuva back, but I do feel like he needs to earn his spot. The whole Power Rangers vibe of 2003 was one of my favorite parts (in what was already a standout half-year), so I think it would be more to introduce him as a plot point unto himself rather than just being another dude. I AM THE DUCK MAN Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) Slightly off topic, but doesn't power over light also give you shadow and basic matter manipulation in the form of color changing by modifying light absorption, not to mention basic power over fire and lasers? Also, what about diverting light and getting power over invisibility? Damn that avohkii is OP. Edited September 17, 2014 by I AM THE DUCK MAN Quote

Also, what about diverting light and getting power over invisibility? Damn that avohkii is OP. Fire emits light, but isn't light. Almost all the other things you mentioned are logical extensions of power over light, and have been confirmed canonically as possible. Shadow, however, doesn't merely mean the absence of light in the Bionicle universe. Yes, Takanuva can absorb light, but the Shadow the Makuta used is some sort of energy, apparently inimical to most light, hence its name. Quote
Lord-Vorahk Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Theoretically, Takanuva could've had similar powers to Umbra, but he never learned how. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 <p>Isn't that the same gear system Bruizer had, if not a very similar one?The one that Leewan posted. Bruizer didn't actually use gears, his action feature was basically just a lever. You can see how it's assembled in his building instructions. A gear function could be more dynamic than a simple lever, but it will also take up considerably more space... I hope the sets will still look good from all angles. Even if it doesn't look flawless, a high-quality gear function will be able to make up for that — but only to a certain extent. Quote

Holy cannoli, Bruizer was a smoking hot set. Lots of Technic, a Hewkii-esque mask, solid color scheme. A shame I completely ignored it last year. EDIT: just had a look at VBBN's review of Bruizer. I must say I'm much less intrigued now Core Hunter was the man of his wave. Edited September 17, 2014 by TwistLaw Quote
Kingslayer Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Anyone see the silver in earth defender? Probably a place holder right? Maybe it's the same with pohatus silver Quote
SirPuddings Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 You know, I gotta say, despite the use of CCBS and the collective fear of Gen1ers (or whatever variation of the term pleases you most), I haven't seen too much "BIONICLE was better in my day!". Obviously that'll change the further we get into the line, but I see more people putting down the hypothetical of gen1ers than I actually see people making the complaint. You've clearly never been to the bionicle subreddit. Also, I've never liked the bags, I mean, sure, they're cheaper to produce, but the packaging made it seem like these sets were some kind of food. Aanchir Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Anyone see the silver in earth defender? Probably a place holder right? Maybe it's the same with pohatus silver I don't see any reason to think it will be a placeholder in either case. Those rocky detail parts have never existed in silver before, so it wouldn't make sense to use a new color for that part to stand in for an entirely different new color for that part. In fact, these sets are all renders, so there's no reason to assume ANY of the parts are stand-ins for the same part in a different color. Also, I've never liked the bags, I mean, sure, they're cheaper to produce, but the packaging made it seem like these sets were some kind of food. They are. They're food for your mind, man. Your imagination Quote
Kingslayer Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 You're probably right. I just hate the silver that's all. Fun metal would have been a better choice if not tan IMO Quote
