Matching the exact angle would have been pretty difficult but hopefully this at least shows what I meant about foreshortening? it looks like a shorter bone, but since I assembled this myself I guarantee it's the bone I've been arguing for.

This new generation is quite impressive! I don't know how they will look in "real life", but every Toa (or should I say Master) has something nice to it. Kopaka and Tahu are definitely the stars of the wave in my book! The shells find a nice balance between Hero Factory and Bionicle. As for the Skull Spider, it's a bit underwhelming for a villain-rahi-something.

Well, Bionicle is reborn! Where will it lead this time?..

It is a good likeness, but I'm not really interested in debating this. I know how foreshortening works. You've told what you think it looks like and I've told what I think it looks like, and in the end one of us is going to be proven wrong, but I don't really have any preference one way or the other. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but the only thing that will tell me what to expect for sure is a clearer image or video of the actual set.

I'm a little shocked that they changed the hau design from the great looking prototypes, but I don't think I hate it....

Gali's mask is ghastly. But I really like it from a purely design standpoint. Lewa and Pohatu's masks are spot-on, and Kopaka still looks like Kopaka. LOSS asctually looks quite good now.

BUT WHERE IS ONUA.

lol but seriously, though; I really want to see his final mask design. He was my first and old Pakari is still my favourite mask ever, so I'm a little apprehensive.

I don't hate the Hau. I disliked the one we got in 2008- Yes, it was an awesome mask, but it didn't fit Tahu. This mask is just as much a departure from the original Kanohi as the other ones are, but contrary to 2008, this too me still feels like Tahu.

Can't wait for people to forget how much they hated the Hau once the sets actually come out :U

Only if it looks better in person than it looks in these pictures.

Gali's mask looks amazing, but not as a mask for Gali. Still, I'm not gonna hold that against them - I actually loved the Phantoka/Mistika masks, especially Lewa and Onua's, and these evoke a similar vibe.

I actually REALLY like the new Hau. And the rest of the sets look amazing. Gali's mask looks a lot better now that we get to see it more clearly. And Lewa color scheme (and design) is absolutely beautiful. He has retained his smile! Overall, I'm looking forward to more. At least we don't have to wait until NYCC...

Had a better look of the sets (squinting at the YouTube video wasn't so bad! Hopefully we get them as image files soon) - I think they all look fantastic. Really looking forward to getting them. My favourite Kanohi has got to be Pohatu's Kakama. Set-wise, it's definitely Lewa! I realized that Lewa still has his mouth holes, reminiscent of the original Miru. I love it!

Yay finalized pictures! Thank you Just2good!

I miss this more consistent color schemes of the old Bionicle sets. It's something I've never seen anyone else comment on, so maybe I'm just crazy, but the way these colors layer with one another is way too sporadic for my taste.

Tahu looks great other than the screwed up Hau. That redesign came out much worse. The original was fine.

Lewa... ugh. Lewa... What did they do to you? Since when do the colors bright-ish green, orange-ish yellow and silver go well together? :sceptic:

Gali looks great, I'm optimistic that the angle isn't flattering for the Kaukau. The axe blade flippers (I'm assuming that's what they are anyway) look cool.

Onua sadly left the team. He was tired of people pretending that he was a girl.

Pohatu is alright. The asymmetry is cool and different. Silver is kinda boring, however, trans-yellow certainly is not.

That Gurrahk staff head is so confusing. What purpose does it serve? I'll be interested to see what's up with that.

Kopaka is my favorite out of these. His legs look awful, ridiculously bulky. But his mask is fantastic. That spear is underwhelming, but who isn't planing to trash it and replace it with those big blades?

Overall all of these look like they will need some modding (keep color layering consistent damn it!) but I'm no stranger to that! It's great to see Bionicle back and I'm excited to see how future sets will evolve the CCBS system. Right off the bat we got gears, something I never would have thought would happen.

I really like the looks of these; a few things I would change here and there (Kopaka's silver torso, for example), but the effect is great. The Kaukau looks less monsterish and nicely aquatic. Gali's color scheme actually reminds me of the Scuba ThrowBot, which is nice. She may be one of the first I get. I also like Pohatu's look quite a bit (that Kakama!), and am excited to see Onua.

I just read a comment on Brickset about the new sets being Hero Factory with the BIONICLE name slapped right on it. Well, yes, they are somewhat right, but... they can't bring back BIONICLE's old building system. The joints were way too prone to breaking. Also, the new gear system and the tribal-inspired designs are clearly reminiscent of the line's original run. The figures hardly look all that robotic. These people should appreciate that BIONICLE is returning next year at all.

Just noticed the various giant spiders in Lewa's background. Lots of them.

Feels like 2005 all over again.

I just had to laugh at that! But the Skull Spiders are very dissapointing in comparison.

I'm already forgetting. :P I like the prelim one much more, but the red one is starting to grow on me. The gold one does look fat though.

  • Kopaka looks amazing. Yeah, the lower legs are weird, but that will be an easy fix.
  • I really like Gali's color scheme, even though if I had one collective issue with these sets, it is how many metallics they use. The Kaukau looks pretty good (though I may still like the original more) and even if she isn't overtly feminine (which is fine), at least she doesn't look masculine like the Mistika version.
  • Pohatu has the best mask, and his colors look better than I thought too, even though I am sure tan would be so much better. He may be my favorite.
  • I'll still wait for a review on LOSS, but I want to skip him. I'll at least wait until later in the year.
  • And as for Lewa...I don't like him. Though the imaginative color scheme is good, I'm not so sure it looks too great, and the shoulder pads are making me think of one of those neck pillows, and I don't care for the look of the axes. The mask almost looks like one from a Hordika set. The golden one almost has a smile, but it really looks like a frown on the actual model...I'm pretty disappointed with it, since the original Miru is my favorite mask. Maybe it will grow on me like the Hau is, and I'll still get the set, but right now I'm not too excited for him....
  • Tahu looks great, though I am still getting used to the Hau. Otherwise he hasn't changed much from the prelim, and he still looks good. He has lowered on my list seeing how great Kopaka, Gali, and Pohatu look though.

I'm looking forward to seeing Onua and the protectors soon!

The number of spiders on Lewa's boxart can't POSSIBLY hint at him being mind-controlled by a skull spider at some point in the story, right? There's no way that Lewa, of all characters, could allow such a thing to happen. What are the chances?

Hau am I the only one ok with Tahu's mask? ;)

Seriously though: while the classic Hau was a huge symbol in the original Bionicle, that was the original line. TLG can do whatever they want here, so a classic Hau shouldn't really be an expectation. It may look odd now but I'm sure it will be fine (even good) in set form.

Others look great. Still a huge fan of Kopaka. Gali is exciting, since the mask isn't the monster we thought it was.

Bad Luck Lewa
