Metalshadow Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Only 5 sets in the summer would be very strange and disappointing to me. Taking this with a grain of salt for now. Quote
Nekchir Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Seems like they would be LARGE(er) sets to me. Quote
Frozen Assasin Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 No,I mean that in 2001 Lego was near ruination and so,Bionicle became it's saving float. Now,it's will be just one of those cookie-cutter series we started to see when HF first came out. Quote
Kingslayer Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Seems like they would be LARGE(er) sets to me. But then they would lose potential customers. Isn't summer bigger than winter in terms of sales? Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Fun fact: "Okoto" is the name of the giant boar in Princess Mononoke: Quote

Grima Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 isn't that the boar that became the huge squirming mass of tendrils because he became corrupt or something main bad guy of 2015 confirmed Quote

Just, Let It Go. If you hope for a good and stable Bionicle,so be it. I will say nothing anymore. Edited September 30, 2014 by Frozen Assasin Quote

They're likely to use the same themes and ideas, but there is the question of volume. 2001 introduced an insane amount of worldbuilding, and it's easy to see them going for a less fully-realized world. Probably no Hoi Turtles this time around. Quote

Probably no Hoi Turtles this time around. Yeah, but then again, we never saw that sort of worldbuilding after Mata Nui in the original Bionicle either, and for some reason people liked the story still. I agree it would be nice to have a fully fleshed-out world like 2001 again, but part of why 2001 was able to do that was MNOG, which focused on the Matoran rather than the Toa, which meant more time to see what their culture was like. Considering, even if these are Matoran, they all look alike, I doubt we'll get much story focus on them. They don't even have names yet. Quote
Shakar Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Not sure what to make of it. If it's real, those 5 sets (smallest constraction wave ever, well after the second Slizer one :P) better be epic. It sounds incredibly fishy though. Quote

TwistLaw Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Didn't Ninjago have 16 sets in wave 1? 18 are A LOT, perhaps LEGO'S biggest launch ever. Quote
Nekchir Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 But then they would lose potential customers. Isn't summer bigger than winter in terms of sales? I guess so, but if they are significantly larger sets and at a good price point, then I doubt only rreleasing 5 of 'em t would affect sales. Quote
Shakar Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Didn't Ninjago have 16 sets in wave 1? 18 are A LOT, perhaps LEGO'S biggest launch ever. It's 18 sets for THE WHOLE year, according to the source. 13+5. Quote
Aanchir Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 No,I mean that in 2001 Lego was near ruination and so,Bionicle became it's saving float. Now,it's will be just one of those cookie-cutter series we started to see when HF first came out. We've seen literally nothing to suggest the new BIONICLE will be any less creative than it was originally. It's just an assumption people seem to want to make every time they notice a single difference from the old BIONICLE, no matter how insignificant it might be. It's childish and generic because the logo's too thick, or because it describes magic by actually using the word magic, or because they describe the work of evil forces as darkness, or because the set names are actually descriptive for a change, or because one of the terms sounds slightly more Japanese than Polynesian. Everybody's jumping to the same conclusion for the most pitiful reasons. I'm not saying the new BIONICLE will be no different than the old BIONICLE. But why don't we wait until we know something that actually matters before we pass judgment, instead of jumping to conclusions based on the most tenuous clues and assumptions? I don't know what kind of "cookie-cutter series" you might be referring to, though. Hero Factory definitely wasn't something like that — there was a lot of effort put into making its own thing and not just BIONICLE under a different name. And in the meantime we've seen lots of brilliantly creative series like Ninjago and the LEGO Movie. You don't have to like all of these series, but calling them "cookie-cutter series" and arbitrarily giving BIONICLE a pass because you grew up with it is uncalled for. Quote
Grima Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Didn't Ninjago have 16 sets in wave 1? 18 are A LOT, perhaps LEGO'S biggest launch ever. That's not 18 in a wave, that's 18 in a year. In that case, Ninjago had around 32 sets in its first year (the number is inflated by the sheer amount of spinner sets, though) Quote
TwistLaw Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 It's 18 sets for THE WHOLE year, according to the source. 13+5. I meant year 1, my mistake. Ninjago wave 1 had 13 sets too. Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) I read through the whole thing and while I'm not 100% sold on its authenticity, I hope it's legit. Otoko sounds really nice. The basic synopsis doesn't really say anything (minus Otoko it could apply to almost every year of Bionicle. XD) but I suppose that's good, to have more surprises further on. 5 sets for summer does sound fishy, but if they're going for large sets only, it makes sense they wanna test the waters. I'm guessing one of those will be a titan figure and have the MoCr, maybe the others will be Rahi or vehicles to try and capture the 2001 feel at its fullest. If you mean just the Masters and LOSS, then yes, I agree that losing launchers is a breath of fresh air. Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I haven't really paid much attention to the Defenders, but yeah. I meant the Toa. I couldn't stand those bulky projectile weapons toward the end of Bionicle's first run. Quote
